Alpha Below 1.0.2
Patch release for Minecraft 1.20.1 focused on the new Alpha Steve horror layer, Alpha HUD/gameplay parity across Fabric+Forge, and a large compatibility/stability pass for rendering + music in modded dimension stacks.
Highlights
- Renamed Mysterious Stone to Petrified Cobblestone.
- Updated Player Remains texture, thank you @FeritWolf95!
- Added Alpha Steve as the main horror entity (horror mode):
- New encounter types include cave work sightings, strip-mine reveal moments, structure window watch scenes, tree-work sightings, and failed ceiling escape events.
- Includes dedicated sounds, renderer/model support, and debug hooks for encounter testing.
- Added Alpha Steve lore traces and aftermath storytelling:
- Contextual sign traces after encounters (sparse, cooldown-gated, non-spammy).
- Added rare Alpha Cave Chicken encounter scenes (horror mode only).
- Added/finished Alpha gameplay rules:
- Sprint disabled in Alpha.
- Hunger drain disabled in Alpha.
- Food restores health directly in Alpha.
- Fall damage in Alpha cannot be fatal.
- 1.9+ melee cooldown removed in Alpha (classic full-strength swings).
- Classic bow, no draw/charge animation.
- New config — Allow mob spawning (Alpha dimension): enables overworld-style natural spawning and chunk population; uses Plains-like spawn lists when Alpha biomes have none.
- New config — Allow entity roaming (Alpha dimension): stops removing non-persistent mobs on load so you can bring animals, use other mods’ entities, etc.; does not enable natural spawning unless Allow mob spawning is on.
- Added/expanded rendering compatibility pass (300+ textures):
- Expanded Alpha texture coverage for boats, armor, etc.
- Removed Chicken Freestyle track. Never was intended to be included in the mod, was just part of the C418 archive used to provide our music.
- Cave chicken event inspired by this.
Fixes
- Fixed player remains piles not dropping their scattered loot when the block was broken.
- Fixed cross-dimension music spam/overlap with other dimension mods:
- Dimension transitions are now tracked by world key (not only alpha/non-alpha boolean flips).
- Music reset now runs correctly on any dimension change.
- Replaced perpetual non-Alpha suppression with a short post-exit grace period, preventing repeated forced restarts in dimensions that mute vanilla music.
- Fixed issue with resource packs using alternative top-layer textures. Resource packs should no longer overwrite textures from the Alpha dimension.
Notes
- Immersive Portals compatibility is reflection-based on both loaders (defensive against API changes).
Known Issues
- Same Sodium/Embeddium-related caveats as 1.0.0 (skybox fog bleed, chest latch glitch); shaders or fog settings may help.
