What's new

1.8.0 (FORGE 1.20.1 · NEOFORGE 1.21.1)

NEW BLOCKS (decoration only, creative tab "Sift Transitions" / Building Blocks; they never generate in the world)
- Slabs, stairs and walls for every full block of the Sift.
- 700+ transition blocks: grass↔grass, stone↔stone and grass↔stone with edge and corner stages, grass on every stone, mossy stages with slabs and stairs, a sand layer block. They are reskins of the normal blocks (same logic) and can be rotated (placed facing you; in creative, sneak + empty hand turns them). Each side face is different, so a turned block turns its sides too.
- Better Leaves add-on pack built in (Resource Packs → "Sift: Better Leaves add-on", enable it ABOVE Motschen's Better Leaves) for the Soul Leaves.

DIMENSION AND WORLD
- Beds work in the Sift; sleeping through the night (Endure) ends in the morning (Thrive) of the Sift clock.
- Minimum light of the Sift raised (never darker than light level ~4).
- Cave spawns: monsters in the dark underground no longer swarm; Sprout spawns rarer and in smaller groups; Blubs spawn (more passive spawns in the Sift biomes).
- Bones, fossils and ichor lakes no longer replace structures.
- Sculk Jaws also grow in the Deep Dark.
- Lullaby Hills: cave biomes no longer show up on the surface of the hills and the hills are no longer cut off (the biome depth now follows the hills' own terraces). Only new chunks / worlds.
- The Sift portal is drawn as a cube, so it no longer looks turned the wrong way in rotated structures.
- Plants: red and yellow plants keep their colour on sand; plants on vanilla sculk take the base colour of the sculk.
- Beacon-style beams over the glowing note blocks of the Otherside ring (own renderer).
- The portal opens as a show: the beams grow out of the ritual note blocks, then the notes leave the blocks one after another in the order of the melody (each plays its own note) and fly into the frame as glowing notes of the colour of each block; the portal opens when the last one arrives (works for the Otherside disc and for playing the notes by hand). The notes glow in the dark.

ILLAGER STRONGHOLD
- Rarer. Raised boss plaza on a pedestal; roads on several floors (ramps, whole-storey climbs, bridges on pillars), many more forks, upper and lower floors that go on.
- Pillars grow down from roads, ramps and buildings to the ground (terrain-aware); roads buried in a hill are opened up so they can be walked.

MOBS
- Hunter: the "feathers" (frills) sit correctly.
- Harmonizer heals Sift creatures like the game's Greater Lifelink (wind-up, beam, break); Sprout's heal beam is now a solid yellow beam with running pulses and purple sparkles.
- Sculkers and other hostile Sift creatures hunt illagers and their creations.
- Boss music starts only when the boss has found its target (a dormant or idle boss is silent).
- Sift creatures are immune to the fire of Soul Fire, Soul Campfires and Ichor.
- Blubs sometimes spawn stacked in columns of up to 4.
- Souled creatures get a second, blue glowing layer (inflated shell per cube on .mobmodel mobs, swollen shell on Java models).

ITEMS AND FIXES
- Rift Staff is creative-only; Resonator weaker (cooldown 30 s, range 16, damage 6, 2 targets).
- Sift return portals: a ritual in an Ancient City now links to the nearest closed Sift portal correctly (also the "wild" ones).
- Soul tree log spam hidden.
- Advancements from Minecraft Dungeons II (canon names): Brave the Unknown, Friend of the Sift, Carapace Explorer, Choir Conductor, Twisted Madness, Copper Stopper, Past Their Prime, Regicide, Monstrous Crescendo, Defender of Dimensions (tab "The Otherside: Sift").
- Full soul wood set: bark (soul wood) and stripped soul wood, fence, fence gate, button and pressure plate join the planks, stairs, slab, door and trapdoor; axes strip soul logs and soul wood. In 1.20.1 the soul door, trapdoor, signs and boats are now there too.
- Creative inventory: the mod's items now sit next to the fitting vanilla items (sculk blocks after the sculk shrieker, soul wood after cherry wood, spawn eggs in alphabetical order...) instead of at the end of every tab.
- Items have tooltip descriptions (they also show up in Obscure Tooltips and the Loot Journal).
- Bloombud: the flickering (Z-fighting) on its arms, torso corners and petals is fixed.
- Mod name is now "Otherside: The Sift".
