What's new
Texture Scaler 1.1.0 — update release. Supersedes 1.0.1 and is the recommended download.
This is a performance release: it keeps every fix from 1.0.1 and cuts this mod's own contribution to launch time from roughly 10 seconds down to 2-3 seconds.
WHAT IT FIXES
- Block atlas stitching failures (StitcherException / "Requested atlas size ... exceeds maximum") on GPUs with a smaller GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE (AMD RX 580, Intel iGPUs: 16384; older iGPUs: 8192).
- The broken-font chain that follows: CJK glyphs rendering as empty boxes and the crash on load.
- Oversized (1024-4096 px) block and item textures from resource packs and other mods are downscaled at load time through a runtime overlay pack. No mod or pack file is modified.
FEATURES
- Automatic cap: clamp(GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE / 32, 256, 2048), overridable in the client config.
- Model UV safety guard: textures referenced by absolute-pixel UVs (texture_size) are skipped.
- In-memory and on-disk caching of downscaled results.
- Full statistics in the log for troubleshooting (consulted / scaled / small / missing / failed).
- Client-side only; nothing is installed on the server.
PERFORMANCE (included in this release)
- Added a persistent texture size manifest (cache/sizes.json), so repeat launches no longer re-read the PNG header of every texture (~19,000 file reads per launch before).
- Cache hits no longer decode the original image: with the size known, the cached result is used directly (previously 157+ large textures were decoded every launch just to hit the cache).
- Texture-missing queries now return immediately when the merged resource manager has no match, instead of searching every pack a second time (~37,000 lookups per reload before).
- Scan results are reused across reloads: when the pack list is unchanged, the previous scan is reused and only newly appeared textures are checked (removed ones are dropped).
- Net effect: this mod's contribution to launch time went from roughly 10 seconds to 2-3 seconds.
NOTES
- If anything looks stale after updating, delete .minecraft/texturescaler/cache/ — it is rebuilt automatically on the next launch (that first launch will be slower).
