Swing Beat Guitar 0.5.63-prototype Release Notes
This changelog combines the updates from versions 0.5.53 through 0.5.63. Features changed multiple times are listed only with their final behavior.
New Features and Controls
- Added two Unique Specials: Heavy Attack and Flying Slash. These are assigned to specific guitars and can be used without mystic transformation.
- Added left-click charging. Hold the left mouse button, then release it to activate a Unique Special. Releasing before the required charge time performs a normal attack. Normal attacks now also begin when the button is released.
- Heavy Attack — available on A2_0 and C4_0. Charging for 0.6 seconds deals 1.2 times the damage of the third combo hit. Charging for another 3 seconds increases this to a maximum of 4 times. Its reach is 3.5 blocks. After the swing, movement speed is reduced to 20% for 0.3 seconds, during which attacks are disabled.
- Flying Slash — available on E3_0 and E4_0. Charge for 0.3 seconds to launch a slash that deals damage based on the guitar’s attack damage. It travels at 40 blocks per second, with a range of five times the guitar’s internal RANGE value. It pierces enemies, hits each enemy once, and disappears upon hitting a wall. Its hitbox is 2 blocks wide and 0.15 blocks tall. It appears as a single musical note at ten times the size of a normal projectile.
- Added charging restrictions and resource costs. Movement speed is reduced to 70% while charging, and shooting and Additive Abilities are disabled. Activation costs 1 durability and adds 6 food exhaustion; charging adds 2 food exhaustion per second. Unique Specials cannot be used with a broken guitar or an empty hunger bar. Switching items and certain other actions cancel charging.
- Particles indicate when the required charge is reached and when Heavy Attack reaches maximum power. Activating a Unique Special ends the current combo, and the next normal attack starts from the first hit.
Combat and Ability Adjustments
- Standardized melee reach to 3.5 blocks. This applies to normal attacks, all three combo hits, and Heavy Attack for every guitar. The internal RANGE value is retained for ranged attacks.
- Changed mystic transformation bonuses to 1.36× attack damage and attack speed. These multipliers also apply after upgrade bonuses.
- Changed Multiple BURST to fire 180 notes in a spherical pattern. Notes spread in every direction around the player, including upward and downward.
- Changed Chase Riff’s launch pattern and homing behavior. It simultaneously fires 8 notes to each side, for 16 total, at a 25° elevation and 45° to either side relative to the player’s view. The notes gradually steer toward the most recently attacked mob, retaining turning inertia.
- Halved the note count in every volley of Harmony and Chaos, rounding up. The number of volleys and their firing interval remain unchanged. Speakers also use the adjusted note count as their base.
Items and Display
- Updated the Ability Remover’s icon and crafting recipe. Craft one using 1 Grade 1 Sheet Music, 2 Gold Ingots, and 1 Crying Obsidian. The
Swing Beat Guitar 0.5.63-prototype Release Notes
This changelog covers versions 0.5.53 through 0.5.63. Changes to the same feature have been combined to reflect its final behavior in 0.5.63.
New Features and Controls
- Added two Unique Specials: Heavy Attack and Flying Slash. These are assigned to individual guitar types and can be used without mystic transformation.
- Added left-click charging. Hold left-click, then release to activate a Unique Special. Releasing before the required charge time performs a normal attack. Normal attacks now also begin when the button is released.
- Heavy Attack — available on A2_0 and C4_0. Charging for 0.6 seconds deals 1.2 times the damage of the third combo hit. After the swing, movement speed is reduced to 20% for 0.3 seconds, during which attacks are disabled.
- Flying Slash — available on E3_0 and E4_0. Charging for 0.3 seconds launches a projectile that deals damage equal to the guitar’s attack damage. It travels at 40 blocks per second, with a maximum distance of five times the guitar’s internal RANGE value. It pierces enemies, hits each enemy once per projectile, and disappears on contact with a wall. Its hitbox is 2 blocks wide and 0.15 blocks high. It appears as a single musical note at ten times the size of a normal note projectile.
- Added charging restrictions and costs. Movement speed is reduced to 70% while charging, and shooting and Additive Abilities are disabled. Activating a Unique Special costs 1 durability and adds 6 food exhaustion. Charging adds another 2 food exhaustion per second. Combat and Ability Adjustments
- Standardized melee reach to 3.5 blocks. This applies to normal attacks, all three combo hits, and Heavy Attack on every guitar. The internal RANGE value is retained for ranged attacks.
- Mystic transformation now multiplies attack damage and attack speed by 1.36. These multipliers also apply on top of upgrade bonuses.
- Multiple Burst now fires 180 notes in a spherical pattern. Notes spread in all directions around the player, including upward and downward.
- Updated Chase Riff’s launch pattern and homing behavior. It simultaneously fires 8 notes to each side, for a total of 16, at an elevation of 25° and side angles of ±45° relative to the player’s view direction. The notes gradually steer toward the most recently attacked mob while retaining steering inertia.
- Halved the number of projectiles in each Harmony and Chaos volley, rounding up. The number of volleys and the interval between them are unchanged. Speakers also use the adjusted projectile count as their base.
Items and Display
- Updated the Ability Remover’s icon and crafting recipe. Craft one Ability Remover using 1 Grade 1 Sheet Music, 2 Gold Ingots, and 1 Crying Obsidian. The recipe is shapeless and works in the player’s 2×2 crafting grid.
- Standardized terminology: the 15 abilities applied through sheet music are now called Additive Abilities, while guitar-specific special moves are called Unique Specials. Key binding labels, ability displays, and ability application/removal messages have been updated.
- Updated the Japanese display names for Multiple Burst, Chase Riff, and Rondo.
- Replaced the guitar’s custom stat display with vanilla-style Attack Damage and Attack Speed entries, and removed the RANGE display. Displayed values reflect upgrades, mystic transformation, and the guitar’s broken state.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed guitar models remaining visible on guitar stands after the guitar had been retrieved.
Configuration and Updating
- Unique Specials can be assigned individually through the
unique_specialfield in each guitar’s JSON definition. Older definition formats remain supported. - Increased the configurable projectile limit for spherical burst effects to 256.
- Replacing the JAR does not automatically update existing configuration files. Apply the relevant changes to the guitar and ability JSON files, then restart the game. For multiplayer, update both the server and clients to version 0.5.63.
