Description
What is Riftbound?
Riftbound is a mod that intended to create a mini-activity for players while exploring, introducing a challenging wave-based combat system with highly configurable options. Players encounter the Rift Steward, a floating entity scattered throughout the Overworld that offers progressively difficult combat challenges in exchange for rewards. The mod features a progression system built around Rift Decrees, customizable challenge documents that determine the difficulty, modifiers, and rewards of your rift encounters.
Attention! This mod is still in the phase of adding more contents, balancing and gaining feedback. There may be some bugs or crashes. If you find any, feel free to report them by sending me a private message on Curseforge or join my discord. A lot more content is planned for the future, so any cool ideas or suggestions are welcome! Thanks.
Getting Started
To get started with Riftbound, you need to find a Rift Steward, which naturally spawns in certain biomes. Interact with it using an empty hand to start a base rift event. Once you clear the event, the Rift Steward will grant you a Tier 1 Rift Decree and disappear
When you find another Rift Steward, right-click it with the decree. This consumes the item and summons a new rift event with a difficulty based on that decree. If you win, you gain the next tier of the decree and a Steward's Bundle, which is your main source of rewards. If you fail, you will only receive a decree downgraded by one tier.
Rift Decree & Steward's Bundle
[Tiers and Stats]
The Rift Decree is the core progression item in Riftbound. Every decree has a Tier level. Higher tiers mean harder enemies and better loot. Hovering over a decree will display its current stats, which mainly include :
- Rift Intensity: Determines enemy strength and quantity
- Rift Difficulty: Affects enemy health and damage bonuses
- Total Waves: Number of enemy waves you'll face
- Wave Duration: Time limit for each wave
- Loot Quality/Quantity: Modifies for Steward's Bundle
- Experience Bonus: Increases XP gained
[Customizing Your Decree]
Decrees are highly customizable, allowing you to modify the difficulty and rewards to fit your current build. Here are the available methods :
- Rift Modifiers : A new modifier will naturally roll onto your decree every 3 tiers, with a default cap of 3 modifiers. You can manually apply it with a certain items or using Purple Wax to randomly roll a new modifier. Rift Modifiers have their own rarity tiers range from Stable, Volatile and Chaotic. They can either buff your loot bonuses or make the rift harder. The main point of stacking modifiers is to increase the chance of spawning Empowered mobs, which is the main way to get a specific, useful item that you'll have to discover for yourself.
- Waxes : You can apply colored Waxes directly to the decree in your inventory to buff specific stats. For example, Red Wax boosts difficulty and XP, while Blue Wax increases loot quality. These items are expensive to craft, so they won't be accessible in the early game.
[Steward's Bundle]
This item can be obtained as a reward from clearing a rift, along with your new decree. Upon interacting with it, the bundle will drop randomized items from a reward pool that is highly customizable in the config file. This item has 3 main stats that determine the rewards, which are :
- Tier: Determines which items will be available in the pool, some items require a higher tier to unlock.
- Loot Quality: Affects the chances of getting rarer items.
- Loot Quantity: Determines how many items you can get.
Rift Event System
Once the event begins, enemies will spawn inside the area and start targeting you. All default enemy loot drops are disabled except for experience orbs. Players must stay inside the zone during the event. If any player leaves the radius, a countdown will start, and the event will fail if it reaches zero. If you clear all enemies through the final wave, the rift will close and the Steward will return to drop your rewards and your new decree before disappearing.
Configuration
The config files are highly configurable for modpack creators. There are currently four config files by the followings :
- riftbound-config.toml : Contains common general settings.
- riftbound-enemies.json : Contains all registered enemies that can spawn in rift events. You can easily add your own.
- riftbound-stewards-loot.json : Contains the registered loot pools for the Steward's Bundle.
- riftbound-riftmodifier.toml : Allows you to enable or disable specific Rift Modifiers from rolling on a decree.
More options will be added in the future.

🔧 Optional Compatibilities
- Riftbound Jewelry : Add some items to the default Steward's Bundle loot pool. This gives a real purpose to Rift grinding if you play with this mod.
