What's new

The first release. SkyWorlds turns an empty world into a SkyBlock world and gives every player an island of their own. Until now all of this sat inside Data Center and only came with the racks, the mining and the market; from here on it stands by itself and fits into any pack.

Added

  • A world type of its own, "SkyWorlds". It sits in the world type button next to Default and Flat, and it leaves the overworld, the Nether and the End completely empty - the sky everything else is built in. A pack can have it preselected with startup.defaultToSkyWorldType, so nobody has to go looking for the button.
  • A spawn island to meet on. The first time anyone enters an empty world, a 9x9 stone platform appears at 0 64 0, with a low wall, a patch of dirt carrying a fully grown tree, and a water source. The tree is deliberately not a sapling: waiting for the first logs is dead time exactly where a world should get going. If anything already stands there, nothing is built and nothing is overwritten.
  • An island per player: /island create. It is placed far out on a grid around spawn, is the same platform the spawn island is - so everyone starts level - and becomes your respawn point at once. /island home brings you back from any dimension, /island visit <name> takes you to a friend's island even while they are offline, and /island spawn returns you to the meeting point.
  • With FTB Teams the island belongs to the party. A party has exactly one island, the way it shares everything else. Join a party that has none and you bring yours along; join one that has an island and you are asked first and told plainly that yours will be deleted. Without FTB Teams every island simply belongs to its player.
  • An island belongs to its owner alone. A zone reaches out around it, and only its owner builds and breaks inside. On the spawn island, in the no-man's land between zones and on somebody else's island you cannot - visitors may look, not touch. Chests, doors and villagers on unowned ground still work, so a meeting point is not a dead place; on another player's island even that is shut. Eating and drinking are allowed everywhere. In singleplayer the rule is off by default - there the spawn island is simply home.
  • Four signs at a server's spawn say in plain words that /island create is the first step. Without them, an arriving player has no way of guessing it.
  • Commands for operators. /island list shows every island with its owner and coordinates. /island delete <player> removes one, but asks first and names exactly what is about to go. Afterwards the island is cleared in the background without raining its contents into the void, and the people living on it are brought to spawn - those offline on their next login.
  • Everything is configurable in config/skyworlds-common.toml: whether the spawn island is built at all, whether /island exists, whether and when the zones apply, how large a zone is, how much space lies between two islands, and how far a deleted island is cleared.

Note

Data Center 1.7.9 and later hands its /island commands over to SkyWorlds as soon as both mods are installed. In a pack with both, the islands exist exactly once - here.
