What's new

1.0.6

  • Changed: once the Mimic drops its disguise, doors and windows no longer keep it out. It bangs a wooden door in within a few seconds (iron doors take longer), and it smashes glass blocks and panes. If the way straight to you is a wall, it goes round to the nearest door or window instead. It leaves every other block alone. Same switches as the other creatures that break blocks: creaturesDig and the mobGriefing game rule.
  • Changed: the creatures can no longer be caught in boats or minecarts. They do not get in, and one that was put in a boat before this version climbs straight out.
  • Changed: the creatures never step onto trapdoors, so the open-trapdoor pit trap no longer catches them. They stop at the edge instead (lily pads and big dripleaf count as trapdoors for this too).
  • Changed: after a streamer playtest (thank you!):
    • It never says the same chat line twice in a world. When it has run out of things to say about something, it goes quiet about it. Only the lines the story depends on are repeated.
    • Asking the same question again and again gets answered less and less.
    • New replies, among them "what was your name" and "where am I", and more about w., the server, why the other creatures are there, and the four places.
    • Ask it about itself: how old it is, what it looks like, its eyes, whether it sleeps, what it does while you are offline, what it is, how it feels, what it thinks of you, what happened to w., how to get rid of it, why it types like that, where it lives, its favourite things. 15 new topics, about 90 new lines.
    • Asking it to show itself, once you have played for a while, gets more than words.
    • The players who "join" now say something in chat while they are here.
    • w.'s first log tells you to sleep, and his second explains how to read the codes it writes in (base64, ROT13, hex, binary). It also tells you to decode the coordinates when it gives them.
    • A night you stay awake through is owed: the next time you sleep, you dream.
    • The way out of a dream is 400-600 blocks away now, a real walk. The F3 screen shows its direction (not the distance), and the Facing line turns green when you look that way.
    • The Underneath is less crowded: at most two Crawlers and one Dangler around you, and nothing spawns there by itself any more. In exchange, Crawlers always know where you are down there, and within 32 blocks anywhere else.
    • Less damage: the Static and the Crawler do half, the Hollow, Mimic, Dangler and the deer about a third less.
    • The floating head makes no sound at all before it gets you. Whoever sees it gets the jumpscare: another player looking at the back of your head, or you in third person (F5).
    • When the ending starts, nothing but the Host is there.
    • Playing music disc 13 near it does something, once per world. Listen to the end. And if it asks for it again, think twice.
    • Fog can bring something with it. New events: a death message for someone who did not die, animals that stop and stare, torches that burn red.
    • The whispers are louder, and the jumpscares are louder again, as loud as they can go.
    • The Weeper screams the moment her head has turned all the way round to you. She is rare in the overworld now (at most every 40 minutes) and lives in the Stillwater, with a short quiet gap between two of them there.
    • The Mimic growls when it stops pretending.
  • Fixed: saying the frequency inside a dream put the radio tower hundreds of thousands of blocks away in the overworld. The tower and the transmitter site are now always within 1000 blocks of the middle of the world, wherever you are when you say it. Worlds where it was placed wrong and not built yet get a new spot.
  • Fixed: with Essential installed, the whole menu moved a few pixels while you pointed at a button.
  • Added: tears in the static. Now and then at night a tear opens in front of you for two minutes: the same thing as the way out of a dream, only the other way round. Step in and you dream (anyone right next to you comes along); leave it and it closes.
  • Changed: knocking only comes from something you can knock on: the nearest door, or failing that a log (a tree, a log wall), within 12 blocks. Out in the open there is no knock (the silence then just ends).
  • Changed: F3+B shows no hitbox round its creatures any more (a box round the thing behind you gave it away). Client config hideHitboxes.
  • Added: a Discord status, built in (no other mod needed): "Playing Signal Lost", where you are (the Overworld, the Nether, one of the four dreams...) and for how long. While it is on, Essential's own Discord status steps aside. Switch it off with discordPresence in the client config (Mods → Signal Lost → Config).
  • Added: two more recordings, both CC0 by Joseph Sardin (BigSoundBank): "Howling of a Girl #1" for the Weeper's scream and "Grunts" for the Mimic.
