🔧 What is Shield Overhaul?

Shield Overhaul is a comprehensive revamp of Minecraft's shield mechanics, designed to breathe new life into one of the most underutilized tools in the game. Whether you're a PvP enthusiast, a survival explorer, or a modded adventurer, this mod brings dynamic and exciting changes that make shields more useful, customizable, and fun.

This is not just a texture pack or a stat tweak — it's a full gameplay expansion centered around shields, crafted with balance and immersion in mind.

⚔️ Main Features

🛠️ Enhanced Crafting & Variants

 

  • New Shield Types: Discover a variety of shields, each with unique durability, blocking mechanics, and appearance. From lightweight wooden bucklers to heavy iron tower shields, every type has its strengths and trade-offs.
  • Custom Recipes: Craft different shields using materials like gold, diamond, netherite, copper, emerald and even modded materials (ObsidianOverhaulIngots).
  • Modular Design (Coming Soon): Attach upgrades, patterns, or special effects to your shield using a new upgrade system.

🔥 Immersive Combat Experience

  • Shield Bashing (WIP): Soon you'll be able to use your shield offensively with knockback or stunning effects.

🎨 Visual Improvements

 

  • Custom Models & Textures: Each shield comes with its own 3D model and high-quality texture.
  • Durability Visuals: Damage now visually appears on the shield, including cracks, scratches, and dents.
  • Item & Block Support: Shields work both as inventory items and as placeable blocks in the world (future feature).

🧪 In Development / Roadmap

Shield Overhaul is currently in early development (v1.0.0). Future planned features include:

  • 🛠️ Shield Smithing Bench: Upgrade and customize shields like you do with armor.
  • 🌈 Banner & Dye Support: Add your personal flair with full cosmetic support.
  • 🧙‍♂️ Enchantment Expansion: New shield-specific enchantments like Knockback, Unbreaking, Mending...

💬 Why Shield Overhaul?

Minecraft shields haven't changed much since they were introduced. This mod was born from a desire to make shields more interesting, balanced, and worth using—without turning them into overpowered or gimmicky tools.

It respects Minecraft's design language while giving players more depth and strategic options.

📥 Installation

  1. Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.4.

  2. Place shield_overhaul-X.X.X.jar in your mods folder.

  3. Launch Minecraft and enjoy a better combat experience!
