Servant 0.2.0-beta.1

Minecraft 1.21.1 - NeoForge

This beta is a major rebuild and direction change for Servant. The mod now focuses on rare, player-like companions that must be found, freed, bound, equipped, upgraded, and managed.

Highlights

  • Reworked Servant acquisition around Pillager Outpost prisoners.
  • Added Easement Seals as the main binding item.
  • Added Reinforced Easement Seals for Assistant progression.
  • Added linked Seal inventory behavior, suspension, and ownership transfer.
  • Added player-like humanoid rendering, equipment rendering, and role-based skins.
  • Added Curios compatibility.
  • Added Sophisticated Backpacks rendering and interaction support.
  • Added tiered Servant Workbenches.
  • Added Assistant imitation, tool handling, and owner support behaviors.
  • Added dimension travel support for following Servants and Assistants.
  • Fixed recipe visibility for recipe viewers such as JEI.

Servant Prisoners

  • Servants can now appear as prisoners in Pillager Outposts.
  • Outpost cages can contain at most one Servant prisoner.
  • Prisoners use localized names:
    • English: Prisoner
    • French: Prisonnier
  • Prisoners flee away from the outpost when they have room to escape.
  • Escaped prisoners wander nearby instead of staying at their spawn point.
  • Prisoners avoid hostile mobs.
  • Added dedicated summon IDs for prisoner/servant/assistant variants.

Easement Seals

  • servant:seal is now the main Easement Seal item.
  • The legacy servant:servant_seal remains supported as a compatibility alias.
  • Easement Seals are no longer craftable.
  • Seals are intended to be found through dangerous or advanced exploration.
  • Binding a Servant links the Seal to that specific Servant.
  • Linked Seals display a glint and tooltip data.
  • Advanced tooltips show the linked Servant UUID.
  • Removing the linked Seal from the special Seal slot suspends the Servant.
  • Suspended Servants no longer work, follow, patrol, defend, produce, or obey normal orders.
  • Returning the correct linked Seal reactivates the Servant.
  • A linked Seal can transfer ownership if the Servant is currently loaded.
  • Transfer checks are performed at the start and end of the use animation.
  • Assistant ownership transfer respects the one-Assistant-per-player limit.

Assistant

  • A Servant can only become an Assistant by using a Reinforced Easement Seal.
  • Each player can only own one Assistant.
  • Assistant promotion is refused if the player already owns one.
  • The Assistant order button was removed from the Servant GUI.
  • Network order packets can no longer turn a Servant into an Assistant.
  • Assistants cannot be switched into Guard mode.
  • Assistants can observe and imitate selected player actions.
  • Assistants can chop nearby logs after seeing the player chop wood.
  • Assistants can mine visible ores after seeing the player mine underground.
  • Assistants can swap tools from their inventory.
  • Assistants look at the block they are breaking.
  • Assistants look at entities they attack.
  • Assistants play repeated swing animations while mining, chopping, or attacking.
  • Assistant pathfinding toward work targets was reinforced.
  • Assistants can place blocks and break blocks to help reach their owner.
  • Assistants can attempt water bucket clutch behavior after long falls.
  • Assistants try to recover the placed water after the fall.
  • Assistants can pick up equipment thrown by their owner.
  • Owner-thrown equipment is compared by role and utility, not only raw attack value.
  • Assistants can protect nearby owner death drops, prioritizing tools, weapons, armor, and backpack storage.
  • Assistants no longer panic-flee hostile mobs like regular Servants.
  • Melee Guards and Assistants use safer Creeper combat behavior instead of simple panic fleeing.

Rendering and Skins

  • Servants now use a slim, player-like humanoid model.
  • Added a dedicated Assistant skin.
  • Added a dedicated Prisoner skin.
  • Added a dedicated Farmer skin.
  • Added a dedicated Miner skin.
  • Added seven stable random melee Guard skins.
  • Added four stable random ranged Guard skins.
  • Armor, held tools, and weapons render more like player equipment.
  • Fixed missing limb rendering issues on role skins.
  • Removed invalid equipment icon sprites.

Curios and Sophisticated Backpacks

  • Added Curios compatibility for Servants and Assistants.
  • Curios slots are available through the Servant/Assistant inventory.
  • Curios back-slot equipment can render on Servants.
  • Sophisticated Backpacks can render on the Servant's back.
  • Sophisticated Backpacks can be opened from the Servant.
  • Backpacks remain visible and accessible when equipped through a Curios back slot.

Workers and Workbenches

  • Added tiered Servant Workbenches.
  • Basic Servant Workbench: 1 worker, 16 block radius.
  • Advanced Servant Workbench: 2 workers, 32 block radius.
  • Ultimate Servant Workbench: 5 workers, 64 block radius.
  • Each Workbench worker slot can have its own assigned Servant and task.
  • Workbench GUI was updated to support multiple worker slots.
  • Breaking a Workbench now detaches its assigned workers cleanly.
  • Reassigning a worker to another loaded Workbench clears the old Workbench slot.
  • The Servant Workbench recipe now requires one Easement Seal.
  • Added recipes for Advanced and Ultimate Servant Workbenches.
  • Added a recipe for the Servant Wand.

Mining Deposits

Mining Deposit recipes were nerfed.

Deposits now require matching resource blocks instead of ore blocks:

  • Coal Deposit: Coal Block
  • Copper Deposit: Raw Copper Block
  • Iron Deposit: Raw Iron Block
  • Gold Deposit: Raw Gold Block
  • Redstone Deposit: Redstone Block
  • Lapis Deposit: Lapis Block
  • Diamond Deposit: Diamond Block
  • Emerald Deposit: Emerald Block
  • Quartz Deposit: Quartz Block
  • Ancient Debris Deposit: Netherite Block

Recipes and JEI

  • Fixed recipe JSON format for Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge.
  • Recipes now use explicit item and tag ingredient entries.
  • Recipe viewers such as JEI can display the mod's recipes correctly.

Balance

  • Servants are harder to obtain.
  • Seals are tied to exploration instead of direct crafting.
  • Assistant progression is limited by Reinforced Easement Seals and one Assistant per player.
  • Mining automation requires expensive deposit blocks.
  • Workbench automation now scales through Basic, Advanced, and Ultimate tiers.

Known Limitations

  • This is a beta release.
  • Subdued Pillagers and allied Ravagers are planned but not implemented yet.
  • Assistant imitation currently focuses on early behaviors such as chopping wood, mining visible ores, tool handling, and owner support.
  • Advanced and Ultimate Workbenches currently reuse the Servant Workbench visuals.
