SCP-111 | Dragon-Snails

SCP-111 are strange breeds of Snail that appear to have been created by Dr. Wondertainment capable of breathing fire, each with its own peculiarity.

These snails possess a unique biological system that allows them to produce methane and spit fire as a defensive mechanism..

Breeds :

  • Oozedrakes
  • Slimybellies
  • Goowyverns
  • Blobworms
  • Glowdrakes
  • Gunwyverns

All of these snails share the same behavior and mechanics, differing mainly in appearance and minor biological traits.

Behavior

Dragon-Snails are fragile. If stepped on by any entity that is not another snail, they will be crushed instantly.

When attacked, they will spit a small defensive burst of fire toward the aggressor before quickly fleeing. This attack is purely a warning, not an hunting or defensive behavior.

When a snail is attacked, all nearby snails panic, flinch, and flee in the opposite direction from the attacker.

Fire spitting is not unlimited, Dragon-Snails must have enough nutrients to produce methane, creating a cooldown before they can use it again.

The cooldown is 10 seconds

If attacked while on fire cooldown, they will immediately flee.

They have 1.5 hearts of health.

To make the mod as realistic as possible, the Dragon-Snails will move in fits and starts, slowly crawling, just like real snails.

Breeding

Dragon-Snails can be bred using lettuce leaves.

  • Only snails of the same breed can reproduce.
  • After breeding, they will have a cooldown.
  • The first snail fed will be the one that lays the egg.

Special Traits

Some breeds have unique characteristics:

Glowdrakes
They glow in the dark

They start to glow under a light level of 7

Blobworms
If crushed, their horn may lodge into the player’s foot.
It can be removed:

  • by yourself using Shift + Right Click
  • or by another player using Right Click on you.

Dragon-Snails Eggs

Each Dragon-Snail breed lays unique and distinctive eggs, with different appearances depending on the species.

These eggs are extremely fragile, if stepped by any entity that is not a snail, they will be destroyed instantly.

Once placed in the world, eggs cannot be picked up again. If broken or destroyed, they will be lost permanently.

Incubation

Dragon-Snail eggs require sufficient warmth in order to hatch.

  • They need a block light level of 11 or higher.
  • If the light source is removed, the incubation process will pause, but it will not reset. Incubation will resume once the required warmth returns.

The incubation process takes between 7 and 10 in-game days.
Sleeping will skip time, allowing the eggs to hatch faster.

Hatching

Shortly before hatching, the egg will begin visibly shaking, signaling that the Dragon-Snail inside is about to emerge.

Dragon-Snails Baby

When an egg hatches, a Baby Dragon-Snail is born, an extremely fragile and vulnerable version of the creature.

If stepped on by any entity that is not a snail, they will die instantly.

Baby Dragon-Snails have only half a heart of health, making them very easy to accidentally kill.

Baby Dragon-Snails cannot spit fire yet.

Growth

Newborn snails are already hungry, so it is recommended to feed and hydrate them immediately.

They will grow into adults over a period of 7 to 14 in-game days.
Sleeping will skip time, allowing them to grow faster.

To grow properly, baby snails must eat and drink at least once per day.

  • If they go too long without food or water, they will become malnourished.
  • Their growth will slow down.
  • If malnourishment lasts too long, they will die.

Feeding and Digestion

Baby Dragon-Snails:

  • Eat lettuce leaves
  • Drink water bottles

They are not smart enough to feed themselves from lettuce blocks, so players must feed them manually.

Their digestive system takes about 2 minutes to process food.

During this time they can digest only one lettuce leaf at a time.
Feeding them too quickly can cause their stomach to explode, killing the baby snail (4 or more lettuces).

Affection and Imprinting

Baby Dragon-Snails develop an imprinting bond with the player who spends the most time caring for them.

Affection increases in several ways:

  • Staying within 3 blocks+1 affection per second
  • Holding them in your hand+2 affection per second
  • Petting them+500 affection

To pick up a baby snail, use Shift + Right Click on it while not holding lettuce or water bottles.

To place it down again, simply Right Click on a block.

To pet a baby snail, Right Click it with an empty hand.
Petting has a 2-minute cooldown.

Taming

When a Dragon-Snail grows up, it will automatically tame to the player with the highest affection level.

For taming to occur, the snail must have at least 2000 affection points with one player.

Dragon-Snails Tamed

When a Baby Dragon-Snail grows up, it will automatically tame to the player it has the highest affection with, as long as it has reached at least 2000 affection points.

If the player it is bonded to is not currently on the server, the snail will remain completely still, waiting until its owner returns.

Tamed Dragon-Snails have 1.5 hearts of health.

When they reach adulthood, they will already be fully fed and will have finished digesting any food consumed during their growth phase.

Despite being tamed, Dragon-Snails remain extremely fragile creatures.

If stepped on by any entity that is not another snail including their own owner they will be crushed and killed.

Tamed Glowdrakes will continue to emit light in darkness, just like their wild counterparts.

Tamed Blobworms will continue to stab anyone who crushes them, just like their wild counterparts

Feeding and Digestion

Even as adults, Dragon-Snails digest food very slowly.

  • They digest one lettuce leaf per minute.
  • Eating 10 or more lettuces at once will cause them to die.

They must eat and drink at least once per day, otherwise they will eventually die from starvation or dehydration.

Behavior

Owners can set their Dragon-Snail to three different behavior states:

Following
The snail will follow its owner.

Sit
The snail will remain stationary and will not attack.

Wandering
The snail will move around freely nearby.

Combat

Dragon-Snails will attack the same targets as their owner.

If the target is within about 3 blocks, the snail will spit fire at the enemy.

However, thei have limitations:

  • 10 seconds cooldown between fire attacks while methane is regenerated.
  • They can spit fire only twice before needing to be fed again to refill methane.

⚠️ Dragon-Snails are not meant for combat.⚠️
They may accidentally walk into their own flames and die, so it is usually best to keep them safe.

Breeding

Like wild Dragon-Snails, tamed ones can enter breeding mode when fed.

After breeding, they will require time before they can reproduce again.

Autonomous Feeding

Unlike babies, adult Dragon-Snails can feed themselves.

Placing a lettuce block nearby will allow them to eat on their own.

If you want them to drink automatically, you can soak the lettuce block with a water bottle.

Lettuce

Lettuce is a core resource used to raise and maintain Dragon-Snails.

Lettuce seeds can be obtained by breaking grass, similar to wheat seeds. They are not extremely rare, but finding them may require some time.

Farming

To plant lettuce seeds you will need:

  • hydrated farmland

Lettuce grows through several stages:

  1. small sprout
  2. visible leaves
  3. fully grown lettuce block

As with many crops, bone meal can be used to speed up growth.

Harvesting

Once fully grown:

  • breaking the lettuce block drops 4–6 lettuce leaves and 1–3 seeds
  • right-clicking the block picks it up as a whole block, allowing it to be relocated

Lettuce Leaves

Lettuce leaves can be used to:

  • feed wild Dragon-Snails
  • trigger breeding
  • feed Baby Dragon-Snails
  • feed tamed Dragon-Snails

Players can also eat them, though they restore very little hunger (half a hunger shank).

Lettuce Block

A lettuce block can automatically feed all Dragon-Snails within about 7 blocks.

Baby Dragon-Snails are not smart enough to feed themselves, so they must still be fed manually.

Snails will slowly consume the lettuce over time.

With one nearby snail:

  • after about 1 day → lettuce becomes partially eaten (stage 1)
  • after about 2 days → lettuce becomes partially eaten (stage 2)
  • after about 3 days → lettuce is fully consumed

More snails nearby will cause the lettuce to be eaten faster.

Partially Eaten Lettuce

The drops change depending on how much the lettuce has been consumed.

Stage 1 eaten lettuce

  • 2–4 lettuce leaves
  • 0–1 seeds

Stage 2 eaten lettuce

  • 1–2 lettuce leaves

Hydration

A lettuce block can also be soaked with water.

Simply right-click it with a water bottle to soak it.

This allows nearby Dragon-Snails to drink automatically.

Again, Baby Dragon-Snails cannot do this on their own.

Automation

Automatic feeding systems can be created using redstone.

If a dispenser fires a lettuce block, it will be placed directly in the world.

If a dispenser fires a water bottle at a lettuce block, the block will be automatically soaked, making it possible to create automated systems that feed and hydrate Dragon-Snails.

SCP-111 Containment Chamber

The primary way to obtain Dragon-Snails is by locating the SCP-111 cell.

This structure is very rare.

Inside the structure, players will find a containment room where Dragon-Snails are kept inside secure containment enclosures.

The room is equipped with systems designed to manage the creatures safely:

  • lettuce blocks placed to feed them
  • dispensers filled with water ready to extinguish potential fires
  • lockers containing lettuce supplies

The Box Room

On the opposite side of the entrance there is a secondary room.

Here the Foundation stores a recovered object: a box containing Dragon-Snail eggs.

Next to the box is a document signed by Dr. Wondertainment, recovered together with the container, explaining how to properly raise Dragon-Snails.

Dragon-Snails Box

The box contains 12 eggs in total, with 2 eggs for each Dragon-Snail breed.

Interacting with the box:

  • Right Click  retrieves the eggs two at a time
  • after all eggs are taken, the box remains empty

Fragility

The box is extremely fragile.

  • Breaking the box destroys all eggs inside
  • Jumping on the box will also destroy it, causing all eggs to be lost

Transport

The box can be picked up and moved.

Using Shift + Right Click, players can carry the box, whether it is empty or still contains eggs.

Dragon-Snails Secret Breeds

Not all Dragon-Snails in this mod are documented in the official records of Dr. Wondertainment.

Some species were recently discovered by the Foundation (non-canon), while others appear to be experimental breeds that were never released to the public. Because of this, they are not listed in the original document included in the egg box.

These variants display significantly different biological traits compared to standard Dragon-Snails.

Icyworms

Icyworms are a modified variant of Blobworms, designed to be the biological opposite of traditional Dragon-Snails.

Instead of producing methane and fire, these creatures generate ice and freezing snow.

Their biological base remains similar to other Dragon-Snails, but they possess several unique traits.

Abilities

Icyworms do not spit fire.

Instead, they release freezing snow, capable of freezing targets rather than setting them on fire.

While moving, they gradually freeze the ground beneath them, leaving behind a trail of frost.

Heat Sensitivity

Icyworms are extremely sensitive to heat.

If exposed to block light level 7 or higher, they will slowly begin to melt.

The melting process is gradual:

  • they will first start dripping water
  • after some time, they will fully melt and die

Moving them away from the heat source will stop the melting, but it will not fully restore their frozen state.

Because of this, exposing them to heat again after partial melting can be very dangerous.

Refreezing

To stabilize an Icyworm that has begun melting, it must be refrozen manually.

This can be done by right-clicking the Icyworm with a snowball.

Eggs

Icyworm eggs require conditions opposite to normal Dragon-Snail eggs.

They must hatch in cold environments:

  • general light level ≤ 5
  • with a cold block underneath the egg

Valid blocks include:

  • ice
  • snow
  • packed ice
  • blue ice
  • frosted ice
  • powder snow

Aside from this requirement, the incubation process follows the same rules as other Dragon-Snails.

Darkybellies

Darkybellies are a Dragon-Snail breed that was never released to the public by Dr. Wondertainment.

According to recovered Foundation documents, this prototype was created to solve the main weakness of Dragon-Snails: their extreme fragility.

The result was a creature that is far more durable, but also extremely aggressive and territorial, which likely explains why it was never released.

While they share many mechanics with other Dragon-Snails, they possess several major differences.

Body Structure

Darkybellies have a body structure similar to obsidian, making them incredibly resilient.

  • They have 25 hearts of health
  • They cannot be crushed
  • They can crush other Dragon-Snails
    (Baby Darkybellies cannot)

When an adult Darkybelly dies, it drops a Crying Obsidian block.

Baby Darkybellies do not drop anything.

Aggressive Behavior

Darkybellies are hostile toward other Dragon-Snails.

If they see another snail, they will attempt to attack it by spitting fire and try to kill it.

Their fire system is significantly stronger than that of normal Dragon-Snails:

  • 3-second cooldown
  • no fire usage limit
  • methane regenerates automatically

This also applies to tamed Darkybellies, meaning they do not need to be fed to recharge their fire attacks.

Reaction to Attacks

Normal Dragon-Snails spit fire as a warning before fleeing.

Darkybellies react very differently:

  • they become immediately aggressive
  • chase the attacker
  • attempt to kill them

Nearby Darkybellies will also become aggressive toward the same attacker.

Baby Darkybellies do not show this behavior.

Territorial Behavior

Adult Darkybellies are extremely territorial.

If an entity approaches within about 3 blocks, the Darkybelly will slowly begin to grow angry.

This can be recognized by smoke coming from their head.

If the anger reaches its peak, the Darkybelly will become extremely aggressive toward all nearby entities.

If entities move away from the 2-block radius:

  • the anger stops increasing
  • but it does not fully reset

To calm a Darkybelly completely, players can approach it while holding a lettuce leaf, which will gradually reduce its anger.

Tamed Darkybellies

Tamed Darkybellies are not territorial toward their owner, but they remain territorial toward all other entities.

They will also continue to attack other Dragon-Snails, even if those snails are also tamed.

Eggs

Darkybelly eggs are much more durable than normal Dragon-Snail eggs.

If stepped on or crushed, they will not break.

SCP-111 Secrets Containment Chambers

Icyworms Containment Cell

  • Very rare: found only in cold biomes.
  • Contains a single Icyworm and a note explaining the origin of this breed.
  • To breed an Icyworm, a second cell or specimen must be found.

Darkybellies Containment Cell

  • Very rare: contains a single Darkybelly and a note explaining the origin of this breed.
  • To breed a Darkybelly, a second cell or specimen must be found.

Advancements

To make the experience more engaging, the mod includes several advancements designed to guide players through its mechanics.

By completing advancements, players will gradually discover:

  • Dragon-Snail breeding
  • the different species
  • rare structures
  • the more advanced mechanics of the mod

Each advancement provides different rewards, depending on its difficulty.

Rewards may include:

  • useful resources
  • special mod items with unique properties
  • and in rare cases even multiple Netherite ingots.

Dragon-Snails Figurines

By completing various advancements, players can obtain Dragon-Snail figurines.
Each figurine is a 1:1 faithful replica of all the mod’s Dragon-Snail species and can be placed as a collectible trophy.

Some figurines have unique properties:

Goowyverns – the flat shell makes it extremely slippery; walking on it will make you slide at high speed!

Blobworm – like the real Blobworm, it stings with its horn. Unlike the original, however, it won’t leave the horn stuck in your foot, but walking on it will deal damage.

Glowdrakes – works as a lamp! Can be turned on and off, and emits a redstone signal when lit.

Icyworm – made of transparent glass, making it very fragile; stepping on it will break it.

Darkybellies – made of obsidian, much sturdier than the others. If picked up and thrown, it can:

    • damage entities it hits
    • break blocks it lands on, placing itself in the destroyed block’s spot

Blobworms Horn

The Blobworm’s horn is a persistent danger for anyone who steps on these little creatures:

If someone steps on a Blobworm, the horn sticks in their foot, applying the “horn stuck in foot” effect: constant slowing and damage if trying to run.

To remove it, the player must shift + right-click with an empty hand, or a friend can remove it by right-clicking on them.

If the Blobworm Horn is placed on the ground, the horn becomes dangerous again: anyone stepping on it will get the horn stuck once more.

SCP-111 Documents & SCP-111 Label

The SCP-111 document, SCP-111 label, and SCP-111-A document are findable in the main SCP-111 cell.

The Icyworm addendum and Darkybells addendum documents can be found inside the other containment chambers.

The documents are readable, while the label provides information about the SCP’s classification and risk level.
