What's new
⚠️ ALPHA TEST BUILD — back up your worlds before installing.
First CurseForge release of Sanity: Psychological Devastation, a standalone sanity system for Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge, based on Sanity: Descent Into Madness by croissantnova (MIT).
SANITY SYSTEM • Sanity is point-based: players cap at 100, other mobs cap at their max health. • Every living entity has sanity, not just the player. • Inner entities are the exception: they have no sanity, are immune to confusion and mania, and convert the psychic damage they take into 2.5x true damage. • Passive and active sanity sources: light, darkness, weather, water, hunger, nearby monsters, pets, music, blocks underfoot, sleeping, breeding, trading, fishing, shearing, advancements, eating and more.
DAMAGE, EFFECTS AND ENCHANTMENTS • New damage types: psychic, true damage (attributed and sourceless), mania. • Psychic damage ignores armour by design — only the Psychic Protection enchantment or a blocking shield reduces it. • Status effects: Confusion, Mania, Mania Immunity, Inner Immunity, Psychic Drain. • Enchantments: Psychic Protection, Psychic Deprivation, Psychic Drain.
ITEMS • Shadow Sword / Shadow Axe — charge one to repair its durability at the cost of sanity. With a shield in the off hand, the shield takes priority over charging. • Shadow refinement — put a shadow weapon and Inner Clumps in an anvil to add refinement levels (1 clump = +1 level = +1 psychic damage = 1 XP level, cap 100, no XP penalty, enchantments and durability preserved). Hold Shift to consume every clump at once. • Inner Shard / Inner Clump / Inner Core — drops and crafting materials. • Stabilizer α / β / γ — restore sanity and grant a short protection (β blocks the mania true damage, γ makes inner entities ignore you). • Garland, and spawn eggs for all three inner entities in their own creative tab.
INNER ENTITIES • Rotting Stalker (psychic resistance 10), Sneaking Terror (15), Screaming Crawler (20). • The Screaming Crawler hunts players below 20% sanity, routes around obstacles with A* pathfinding, steps up and jumps over ledges, and its eyes glow in the dark. • Two sanity gates on the crawler: at 75% sanity or above it cannot track you at all (it refuses you as a target and instantly drops a chase in progress), and between 50% and 75% its blast destroys no blocks (the damage is unchanged). Below 50% it behaves as a creeper would. • Its blast damages sanity instead of health and never harms other inner entities.
INNER VOICES (the centre-screen monologue) • Four editable pools: mild / severe / deep / expiry (/sanity hint <tier> add|remove|list|clear|show). • At 25% sanity or below only the severe pool is drawn; the deep pool speaks exactly one line in the last 5 seconds before the mania damage starts. • The expiry pool warns during the final 5 seconds of Mania Immunity or Inner Immunity; when the two immunity windows overlap the warning is shown only once. • Visibility fix: the centre line was being drawn at roughly 6% opacity, which is indistinguishable from "nothing is drawn" on a real screen. The alpha floor is now 60%, and the trembling updates at the game tick rate instead of the frame rate.
COMMANDS • /sanity get | set | add | state | psychic | truedamage | resist | innerspawn | nospawn | config reload, plus /sanity hint <tier> add|remove|list|clear|show.
FIXES • 8 upstream defects fixed, including the pet-death sanity penalty that never applied, block cooldowns saved into the wrong table, chunk "player placed block" tracking losing two thirds of its entries, and an inner-entity capability packet that was resent every tick. • Save safety: the "block mob spawning" test switch no longer removes the Ender Dragon, the Wither, the Warden or the Elder Guardian. • Jade integration (optional): shows the sanity value under the health bar.
REQUIREMENTS • Minecraft 1.20.1 (1.20 works) • Forge 46+ • Java 17 • GeckoLib REQUIRED — 4.2 on Forge 46, 4.8.4 on Forge 47.1+
