Photography 1.2.0 — Media & Cutscene Update

Photography 1.2.0 is a major update focused on online media, cinematic controls, improved media interfaces, advanced subtitles, and video metadata.

Online Media

• Added HTTP/HTTPS video source support.

• Added Twitch playback through WATERMeDIA.

• Added optional YouTube support through the WATERMeDIA YouTube Extension.

• YouTube playback no longer requires an extra dependency unless YouTube is actually used.

• Added a clear error message when attempting to play YouTube without the required extension.

• Added LIVE stream detection.

• LIVE sources now display a LIVE indicator and avoid unsupported seek/duration behavior.

• Added safer online playback startup handling and timeout protection.

Online Video Metadata

• Added online source identification.

• YouTube videos can display their real video title and creator/channel when available.

• Twitch sources can display channel/source information and available stream metadata.

• Metadata failures never prevent video playback.

• Local and unsupported sources continue to use safe fallback information.

Cutscene Controls

Added new /video play options:

• volume <0-100>

• speed <0.25-4.0>

• onskip "<command>"

Example:

Volume

• Cutscenes can now start at a custom volume.

• Range: 0–100.

Playback Speed

• Added configurable playback speed for finite video sources.

• Range: 0.25x–4.0x.

• Playback speed is safely ignored for LIVE streams.

onskip

• Added commands that execute when a skippable cutscene is skipped.

• Runs once per /video play invocation.

• Does not trigger from natural video completion or /video stop.

• Can be used together with the existing then callback.

Cutscene Gamerules

Added:

/gamerule photographyFreezeDuringCutscenes true

/gamerule photographyInvulnerableDuringCutscenes true

Freeze During Cutscenes

• Keeps players anchored while a Photography cutscene is active.

• Players can still rotate their camera.

• Normal movement returns immediately after the cutscene.

Invulnerability During Cutscenes

• Prevents normal damage while a Photography cutscene is active.

• Normal damage behavior returns after the cutscene ends.

Both gamerules are disabled by default for backwards compatibility.

Media Interface Redesign

• Completely redesigned Image, Audio, and Video item interfaces.

• New vanilla-inspired Minecraft visual style.

• Improved panels, borders, buttons, progress bars, and volume controls.

• Unified visual language across all Photography media.

• Existing media functionality remains unchanged.

Subtitle Improvements

Added advanced dialogue and subtitle customization.

Speakers

Subtitle entries can now define a speaker:

"speaker": "Alex"

• Speaker names are displayed separately from dialogue.

• name can also be used as an alias.

Per-Speaker Styling

Added reusable speaker configurations.

Speakers can define:

• Dialogue color.

• Name color.

• Text size.

• Position.

• Bold/italic styling.

• Background settings.

• Typewriter settings.

Typewriter Effect

• Added optional character-by-character subtitle animation.

• Added configurable typewriter speed.

• Can be configured globally, per speaker, or per subtitle entry.

• Existing subtitle JSON files remain fully compatible.

WATERMeDIA

• Updated Photography to WATERMeDIA 2.1.37.

• Updated the video rendering architecture for newer WATERMeDIA versions.

• Preserved protection against corrupted H.264 frames immediately after seeking.

• Improved video playback lifecycle and failure handling.

Compatibility & Reliability

• Existing Photography item commands remain compatible.

• Existing subtitle files continue working without changes.

• Improved natural video-end detection.

• Improved safety for non-skippable cutscenes.

• Improved multiplayer cutscene lifecycle tracking.

• Preserved command-block, /execute, datapack function, selector, and console compatibility.
