Parry — Java Edition

Timing-based combat parry. Whoever hits FIRST gets the parry!

A faithful port of the Bedrock Parry mod to Java Edition. No shield required — any item (or no item) works. Just time your attack to match the enemy's.

How It Works

If you and an enemy hit each other within a 0.4-second window (8 ticks), the person who hit first gets the parry. The second hitter is punished:

❌ Takes zero damage
🌀 Gets stunned (Slowness II + Weakness I for 3 seconds)
💥 Gets knocked back away from the parry winner
✨ A parry sound + critical-hit particle burst plays
🔢 The winner's parry counter increments

This works in both directions:

You hit an enemy, then it hits you → YOU parry (the enemy gets stunned)
An enemy hits you, then you hit it → IT parries (you get stunned)

No shield needed. No specific item required. Fist, sword, axe — anything works.

Commands

Command	Description
`/parry`	Toggle parry on/off for yourself
`/paritype`	Show your parry stats (count, status, window, stun info)

Both commands are available to all players — no cheats or OP required.

Installation

Steps

Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 26.2
Download Fabric API and place it in your mods/ folder
Download ciservermodding-parry-1.0.0.jar and place it in your mods/ folder
Launch the game and join any world or server

Server Installation

Place both the Fabric API jar and the Parry jar in the server's mods/ folder. Clients connecting to the server do not need the mod installed (all logic runs server-side), but can install it if they want.

Technical Details

Parry window: 8 ticks (0.4 seconds at 20 TPS)
Stun: Slowness II + Weakness I, 60 ticks (3 seconds)
Knockback: 1.8 horizontal + 0.6 vertical (away from the parry winner)
Toggle: Uses vanilla entity tags (parry_disabled) — persists via NBT, visible to /tag list
