Start of the Infection:
The First Signs: Visitors
When logging into your world everything seems fine at first, but as soon as you place a bed, otherworldly creatures may visit you during the night.
These Visitors are strong hostile mobs who can spread the Nexus and can also spawn other mobs related to the infection. One of these is the Infector, a mob capable of spawning Nexus Tumors.
Nexus Tumors and the Spread:
Nexus Tumors rapidly spread the Nexus Infection across large areas, transforming them into hostile microbiomes. When a Tumor appears, it begins corrupting the terrain beneath it, converting the ground into masses of Dead Nexus.
While the Tumor is alive, Red Cacti, Nexus Roots, Mind Saplings, and Nexus Meat can naturally form on top of Dead Nexus blocks.
Mind Saplings grow into massive Mind Trees after roughly 2 minutes, while Nexus Meat can spawn Wreckeds or Infectors. Infectors spawn new Nexus Tumors, allowing the infection to spread even further.
Nexus Hives:
Once a Nexus Tumor finishes corrupting its surroundings, it dies and creates a Nexus Hive underground if there is enough space. Nexus Hives have 2 variants: Grand and Small. Grand Hives are created when there are no Torment Tentacles in a 100×100×100 block area.
Small Hives are created when there is at least one Torment Tentacle in that area.
Grand Hives feature Heartlens, Nexium Cores, Hive Blobs, and a Hive Root, which can be used to summon the Torment Root with a Nexium Heart. Small Hives feature only Heartlens and Nexium Cores.
The Coarse:
Once a Nexus Hive is spawned, the infection enters its 2nd stage, and Dead Nexus begins spreading the Coarse, a block created when Dead Nexus spreads while a Nexus Tumor or Infector is within a 100×100×100 area. The Coarse spreads while a Heartlen is within a block area of 200×200×200, creating Dead Nexus Roots, Radiant Mushrooms, Nexus Meat, Nexus Acid, and large Nericin Tentacles.
The Hive Root:
Within Grand Hives there is a Hive Root block. It is the Heart of the Hive that emits heartbeat sounds, and is used to summon the Torment Root with a Nexium Heart, which can be crafted from 3 Nexium and a Heartlen Piece, both of which can be looted from the hive.
The Torment Root is a mini‑boss that drops a Nexium Tentacle, which can be used to convert Nexium into a Nexium Ingot using a Nexium Tentacle and 8 Nexium.
(Note: the Nexium Tentacle is not consumed when crafting a Nexium Ingot.)
The Nexium Tentacle can also be used to break Nexus-type blocks instantly.

Nexium Ingots can be used to craft Nexium Marks using 2 Nexium Ingots and 7 Cobblestones.
Nexium Marks prevent Visitors and Infectors from spreading the Nexus in a 60×60×60 area (Note: Infectors can still spawn Nexus Tumors.)
They also prevent Coarse and Dead Nexus blocks from spreading within a 50×50×50 area.

Players can also create a Tumor: just kill a Nexus using a Nexus Amulet, then use a Bucket on the resulting Dripping Nexus to make a Tumor Nexus block that will spawn a Tumor.
Each Nexus Tumor has a variable lifespan.

In the new corrupted biomes, you can find the Overgrown Castle, which has been completely overtaken by an infection spreading through the Overworld. Inside, you’ll discover a locked chest that can be opened with a Radiant Key.
The basement appears empty at first, but you’ll soon notice a villager trapped down there… or perhaps the villager is the trap.
Getting too close triggers a boss encounter with the Deceiver, who can be defeated by destroying nexus blobs while it is near them.

Upon defeat, the Deceiver drops a Nexus Amulet, which can be used in 3 different ways:
It can kill a Nexus to obtain Radiant Ash, freeze mobs while the player has Bone Shards in their inventory, or be used to craft a Cloudmaker.
The Cloudmaker is crafted using a Murk Nebula, a Nexus Amulet, a Water Bucket and 6 Polished Sinister Stones.

Note: The Nexus Amulet isn’t consumed when crafting the Cloudmaker. It only loses 1 durability, and the Water Bucket used in the recipe returns as an empty Bucket.
Peskies occasionally drop a Nexus Egg. Once hatched, it spawns a Murk, which drops a Murk Nebula when defeated. The Murk Nebula is a key material required to craft and operate the Cloudmaker. It generates magical clouds when activated with a Murk Nebula and if there is enough space 15 blocks above the block.

- Murk Clouds appear in non‑cold biomes and contain Murk Cloud Blocks, which are used to brew Blindness Potions. Nexus Clouds generate among the Murk Clouds and these can be used to craft throwable Murk Charges.
- Frozen Clouds form in cold biomes (such as snowy plains, snowy beaches, and snowy taigas). They are slippery, generate icicles, and drop Frost Chunks when mined.
- Candy Clouds are uncommon and drop a Cloud Candy when broken without Silk Touch. Cloud Candy is eaten quickly and restores 4 hunger points and 0.5 saturation.
- Golden Clouds are the rarest and drop 1-3 Gold Nuggets when broken without Silk Touch.
Clouds created by the Cloudmaker begin to disappear after 50 seconds. They can be broken faster with a hoe, and the Ice Wand allows you to destroy them easily without needing to build up.
Nexus Tumor:
A mob that rapidly spreads the Nexus Infection across large areas, forming a micro‑biome in the process. It spawns uncommonly in the Overworld, and it enables Dead Nexus to grow Red Cacti, Nexus Roots, Mind Saplings, and Nexus Meat within a 100‑block radius while alive. Each Tumor has a variable lifespan (the minimum is 20 seconds).

Visitor:
An undead hostile mob that can spawn near beds or in Radiant Shrublands, Mind Forests, and Mind Jungles. It has 60 HP, can shoot radiant projectiles, spread dead nexus, and spawns Wreckeds.
Drops: up to 4 Bone Shards, 5 Nexus Skins, and 8 Leather.

Wrecked:
An undead hostile mob that spawns near Dead Nexus blocks or is summoned by Visitors actively attacking a player. It has 30 HP and quickly chases after the player.
Drops: up to 4 Nexus Skins.

Infector:
An undead hostile mob that spawns near Dead Nexus blocks. It has 30 HP, can spread dead nexus, and has increased melee range thanks to its large claw. It allows Dead Nexus to grow Red Cacti, Nexus Roots, Mind Saplings, and Nexus Meat within a 100‑block radius. Infectors can spawn Nexus Tumors, allowing the infection to spread even further.
Drops: up to 4 Nexus Skins and 4 Bone Shards.

Pesky:
A hostile mob that spawns in dry biomes such as Badlands, Savannas, Deserts, Radiant Shrublands, Mind Forests, and Mind Jungles. It has 20 HP, can jump very high, and has permanent Slow Falling.
Drops: up to 5 Feathers, 2 Rotten Flesh, and 1 Nexus Egg.
Murk:
A flying hostile mob hatched from a Nexus Egg. It has 80 HP, shoots smoke bombs that inflict Weakness, and can spawn lightning clouds around itself.
Drops: up to 4 Murk Nebulas, obtained from the Nebula Cloud that appears after the Murk dies.

Acid Stalker:
A hostile undead mob that disguises itself among Acid Piles in Radiant Shrublands. It has 30 HP and shoots radiant projectiles that leave behind large acid effect clouds.
Drops: up to 4 Acid Piles and 3 Radiant Fangs.

Heartlen:
A hostile mob found only in Nexus Hives. It can break most blocks, excluding Nericin, Dreaded Bone Blocks, Nexus Cores, Hive Blobs, and Nexium Cores. Heartlens can be slowed down for 10 seconds by breaking a glowing Hive Blob block inside Nexus Hives.
Drops: up to 2 Heartlen Pieces
Brainlet:
A hostile mob that can spawn when breaking Nexium Cores, or be spawned by Torment Roots. Spawns lethal Nexus Gas shortly after dying, which lasts for 2 seconds.
Drops: up to 3 Nexus Skins
Tangler:
A Tangler is created by placing a Dreaded Bone Block and then placing a Carved or Radiant Entangled Melon on top. It is a neutral mob with 70 HP that attacks hostile mobs.
Giving it an Entangled Stick increases its HP to 90 and allows it to summon mossy barriers at half health, granting Resistance. Tanglers follow players holding an Entangled Stick.
Drops: up to 8 Bone Shards and 1 Carved Entangled Melon.

Soul Moth:
A flying hostile arthropod that spawns in Overgrown Castles. It has 40 HP, shoots fire that creates soul fire and soul soil, and takes damage when the player breaks a Nexus Blob nearby.
Drops: up to 2 Weathered Silk and 3 Fire Charges.

Radiant Sentry:
A stationary hostile mob found in Overgrown Castles. It has 50 HP and shoots radiant charges, similar to Acid Stalkers.
Drops: up to 2 Radiant Ash and 1 Diamond.
Torment Root:
A hostile mini‑boss that can be summoned by inserting a Nexium Heart into the Heart of a Nexus Hive. Can be stunned for 3 seconds by breaking a Hive Blob inside Nexus Hives; while stunned it cannot attack the Player in melee range.
Uses Nexus Jaws to damage the Player; these are spawned above the Player and emit Nexus Saliva, which deals 3 damage when stood under.
Can spawn up to 2 Brainlets and up to 4 Torment Tentacles, which deal 6 melee damage and are stationary like the Torment Root.
Drops: up to 6 Nexium and a Nexium Tentacle
Deceiver:
A hostile boss mob residing in the basement of the Overgrown Castle. It disguises itself as a Villager, but when a player approaches, it rushes forward, revealing its true form.
It has 200 HP, and the player must damage it using Nexus Blobs, which deal 25 damage when broken and inflict Slowness and Weakness for 2 seconds. Destroyed blobs deactivate and stop emitting light for 45 seconds.
The Deceiver can:
- Apply the Captured effect to nearby players, spawning a Bone Trap that slows and poisons them
- Spawn blinding gas
- Transform into its crawler form, becoming very fast but dealing less damage
- Teleport
- Despawn common hostile mobs within a 40‑block radius (Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers, etc.)
It becomes visually more damaged as its HP decreases.
Drops: 1 Nexus Amulet.
