What's new

[1.3.0] - August 25th, 2026

A major update focused on MCA 7.7 compatibility, better family quests, improved quest tracking, MCA: Reputation integration, and closing several quest exploits.

MCA: Reputation Integration

  • Added a View Deeds link to villages in the Journal when MCA: Reputation is installed.
  • The link opens that exact village in Reputation's Standing screen.
  • Reputation data is refreshed before opening.
  • The link is hidden when MCA: Reputation is not installed.
  • Requires MCA: Reputation 0.2+.

Family Quests Now Target Real Villagers

Family quests now point to an actual MCA relative instead of only mentioning one in dialogue.

  • The exact relative is chosen when the quest is accepted.
  • Quest text, highlighting, HUD tracking, and completion now all refer to the same person.
  • Family deliveries must be handed to the specific villager named by the quest.
  • Added support for grandparents and any relative conditions.
  • Existing quests update automatically with no save migration required.

Quest Target Highlighting

  • Active quest targets can now be outlined through walls while nearby.
  • Highlights are visible only to the player who owns the quest.
  • Quests without a specific target highlight the quest giver instead.
  • The older shared Glowing-effect behavior can still be enabled through configuration.

Direction Tracker

The quest HUD can now help guide you toward the villager you need.

It shows:

  • Target name.
  • Distance in blocks.
  • A simple direction such as ahead, behind, left, or right.

If the target is too far away to be loaded, the tracker can point toward their last known home instead.

Missing Relatives Can Now Be Found

Certain family quests can now involve relatives who are genuinely missing from the world.

When found:

  • The original family member is restored as a real villager.
  • Their identity, profession, and family relationships are preserved.
  • They immediately become the quest target.
  • They cannot accidentally appear more than once.
  • Simply being outside render distance no longer makes a villager count as missing.

Once found, the relative remains in the world permanently, even if the quest is later abandoned or failed.

MCA 7.7 Compatibility

Fixed a serious compatibility issue where right-clicking entities could crash dedicated servers on newer MCA 7.7 builds.

MCA changed its internal package layout during the 7.7 release line. MCA: Quests now detects the installed layout automatically instead of relying on one specific version.

  • Supports both MCA 7.6 and 7.7.
  • Unknown MCA layouts now disable affected features safely instead of crashing the server.
  • Added /mcaquests debug mca to help diagnose MCA compatibility problems.
  • Reduced reliance on MCA internals to improve future compatibility.

Fixed Free Escort Quest Rewards

Some escort and travel quests could complete immediately if the target was already standing near the destination.

This allowed certain quests to be accepted and immediately turned in for free rewards.

  • Escort and location quests now require an actual journey.
  • Added a configurable minimum travel distance.
  • Quests that are already complete before being accepted are no longer offered.
  • Updated several built-in escort quests with proper distance requirements.
  • Fixed Walk Me to Bed, Night Pilgrimage, Guide the Surveyor, A Last Walk, Reunite with Spouse, Walk Together, and Escort to Market.

Heart Reward Improvements

Rewards owed to unloaded villagers are now handled directly by MCA: Quests.

  • Heart rewards are saved until the villager loads again.
  • Rewards are now properly tracked per player.
  • Loaded and unloaded villagers now follow the same reward rules.
  • Situations can no longer grant relationship hearts when there is no player to receive them.

Fixed

  • Fixed any family conditions being ignored.
  • Fixed unloaded villagers incorrectly being treated as missing.
  • Fixed filler family-tree characters being mistaken for missing relatives.
  • Fixed protection quests failing because the wrong relative died.
  • Fixed the quest log, HUD, and highlight sometimes pointing to different villagers.
  • Fixed village titles being shared between villages in different dimensions with the same numeric ID.
  • Improved compatibility between MCA: Quests and MCA: Reputation's legacy import system.

Multiplayer Improvements

Quest highlighting is now private to each player.

Previously, the normal Minecraft Glowing effect could make another player's quest target visible to everyone on the server and through some minimap or shader mods.

The new system avoids that by default.

Configuration

Added or expanded support for:

  • highlightUsesGlowingEffect
  • showQuestTargetDirection
  • minEscortJourney

Brazilian Portuguese translations have also been updated for the new family and tracking features.

Compatibility

  • Supports MCA Reborn 7.6–7.7.
  • Requires MCA: Reputation 0.2+ for Reputation integration.
  • Existing worlds remain compatible.
  • Client and server must both use MCA: Quests 1.3.0.
  • Network protocol updated from 8 → 9.
  • Some add-ons directly using MCA: Quests' villager-target API may require a small update.
