What's new

Everything new since 0.8.0.0: fixes for server freezes in big packs and for falling through the world on the way home, locators for other mods' ores, AE2 meteorites on the Moon, obsidian flows on Mars, new beacon and space suit recipes, meteoric iron tools and armour, a new look for most of Luna's items and resource blocks, an FTB Quests chapter, JEI pages, shaders that work from the start with Distant Horizons, and a short /Luna perf that says what your stutter is.

Bugfixes

  • Coming home from the Moon or Mars no longer freezes the server or drops you through the world. On arrival the game looked for two blocks from the world you had left, in the world you had arrived in: the one you had been standing on, and the one you were still breaking if you left while mining. Far from anything loaded, it had to generate new terrain to find them, which took up to 12 seconds while you fell. The same small freeze on the way out and through Nether portals is gone too.
  • Distant Horizons no longer freezes the server. When its world generation (or any other mod's background thread) asks the server for a chunk, that thread now waits for it instead of the whole server. It also no longer makes the server generate real terrain far away just to check whether a village cat is in a witch hut.
  • Mob spawning no longer freezes the server near big structures (outposts, witch huts, fortresses and many modded ones). The structure's chunk now loads in the background instead.
  • Villagers that were moved away from their beds no longer load the chunk with their old bed every night.
  • Water or lava at the edge of the loaded world no longer makes the server generate the chunk next to it to check for a reaction (a 2.5 second freeze in the logs).
  • Accessory tooltips now show the item's own numbers: what it rolled, and what its Relics upgrades have made of it. Before, they always showed the usual value. The Heart of Mars now gives its bonus as max health, the same as the "When worn" line, and the Lodestone Belt shows how far it pulls.
  • Shaders now work from the start with NeOculus and Distant Horizons, without turning them off and on. Luna loads the shader pack once you're in a world and Distant Horizons has started drawing. No settings are changed. To turn this off, set loadPackWithDistantHorizons to false in luna-performance-client.toml.
  • Beds, chests, signs, banners, heads, pots and bells are no longer hidden early by Luna's distance limit. With shaders on or a low frame rate they could vanish as close as 24 blocks away; now they show as far as in vanilla (64 blocks).
  • Luna's log no longer prints the full path to your world folder.

Added

  • Locators for other mods' ores on the Moon: osmium, tin, lead, uranium, fluorite, zinc, aluminum, silver, nickel, mithril and certus quartz. Each only exists when a mod that adds that ore is installed (Mekanism, Create, Immersive Engineering, Iron's Spells, Applied Energistics 2 and others), and is made like the others: an eye of ender ringed with eight blocks of the ore's material (mithril ingots for mithril).
  • With Applied Energistics 2, one Moon crater in five holds one of its meteorites: a ball of sky stone round budding certus quartz and a mysterious cube with the inscriber presses. The Lunar Certus Quartz Locator makes a cycle's certus clusters drop 9 times as much.
  • On the Red Plains, old lava flows now lie as sheets of obsidian set into the ground, with a few lumps round them.
  • Meteoric iron tools and armour: a sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and a full set of armour, made like iron gear from meteoric iron ingots. They sit between iron and diamond. The tools mine 25% faster on the Moon and Mars, and each piece of armour takes 12.5% off fall damage, so the full set halves it. They look like vanilla's iron set in meteoric iron's blue-grey and take the same enchantments and trims.
  • The Deactivated Lunar Transit Beacon: a beacon ringed with five meteoric iron ingots, three obsidian below. The lunar beacon is now crafted round it.
  • Transit beacons go dark (their light off, their colours a little greyer) while nowhere they reach is open, when every body they go to is closed after a catastrophe. They light up again when one opens.
  • With FTB Quests: the first time a world starts, Luna adds a chapter of 22 quests to the quest book, from the crashed lander to the space suit, with experience and a few space rations as rewards. After that it's yours to edit or delete. To stop it being added, set ftbQuestsChapter to OFF in luna-common.toml.
  • With JEI: a page for each region of the Moon and Mars, with what it's rich in, what else is found there, and the best heights for each ore. Press R on an ore to see which regions have it.
  • Luna's ores work in Create, Mekanism and Immersive Engineering: moonstone, olivine and Martian garnet ore and meteorites can be crushed or enriched for extra gems and meteoric iron, and the arc furnace melts meteorites and raw meteoric iron into ingots. These recipes only load when that mod is installed.
  • Trips are loaded ahead. While the transit screen is open, the landing sites on offer load one at a time, so a trip leaves as soon as you click and you land on ground that's already there. On the Moon or Mars, your home and a wider area round it load and start running too, so your base's storage and machines are already going when you get back. To turn this off, set warmTrips to false in luna-performance.toml.
  • Distant Horizons' terrain generation pauses while the server is falling behind or has just frozen, and while you travel to or from the Moon or Mars. If the server freezes again soon after, the next pause is longer, up to 10 minutes. Your Distant Horizons settings aren't changed. /Luna server shows whether it's paused. To turn this off, set pauseWhenBehind to false in luna-performance.toml.
  • When the server freezes for a second or more, the log says what it was busy with, which mods were involved, and for long waits on chunks, where the request came from. Shorter slow ticks are summed up every 10 minutes, and "Can't keep up" lines get a reason. /Luna server shows the last freeze and the last summary.
  • The log says what the game was drawing when frames were slow, summed up every 10 minutes and when you leave a world, and what made it stop drawing whenever it stopped for a second or more. To turn this off, set slowFrameMillis to 0 in luna-performance-client.toml.
  • If you have Optimized Block Entities with Embeddium, Luna warns about it in the log: that combination makes beds and signs invisible. To fix it, set optimized_bed, optimized_banner and optimized_sign to false in config/obe.json.

Changes

  • The glowstone and obsidian spires on Mars are gone. Glowstone is still in the Red Plains' caves, and obsidian is in its lava flows.
  • /Luna locate is gone.
  • The Frontier Cloak is worn in the Curios back slot instead of the body slot. It shares that slot with the parachute pack.
  • New beacon recipes. The Lunar Transit Beacon takes the deactivated beacon where it took a vanilla beacon (four diamond blocks, three eyes of ender, obsidian). The Interplanetary Transit Beacon is now crafted, not a smithing upgrade: the lunar beacon in the middle, five netherite ingots round it and three blocks of meteoric iron below.
  • New survey charge recipes. The Lunar Survey Charge is the eight Moon locators (coal, iron, gold, lapis, redstone, diamond, copper and emerald) in a ring round an eye of ender. The Martian Survey Charge is three quartz locators on top, three nether gold locators at the bottom, an ancient debris locator each side and an ender pearl in the middle. Both used to be eight blocks of amethyst round an eye of ender.
  • The space suit now takes the matching piece of meteoric iron armour at the smithing table, in place of a block of meteoric iron, and the Space Suit Upgrade template now looks like a circuit board.
  • A new look for most of Luna's items: the gems, the locators (an eye of ender ringed with the ore they find, as their recipe makes them, and the survey charges ringed with the colours of the locators they're made from), the meteoric iron items, the meteoric band (a thick ring) and chain (a coil with a gold clasp), the ration, and the accessories that were hard to tell apart. The gem ores and blocks, the meteorite, the block of meteoric iron and cut meteoric iron are redrawn to sit with vanilla's blocks.
  • Meteorites drop 2 raw meteoric iron, and more with Fortune (up to 8 with Fortune III). Silk Touch still gives the block.
  • /Luna perf is short: your frame rate and 1% low, what the stutter in the last 4096 frames was spent on (only the causes that came up, such as garbage collection, the graphics card, shaders compiling, chunks being built, or a mod by name) with a tip for the main one, and which features are on. Hover a cause for its own tip. The rest is under /Luna perf details.
  • With Relics: accessories roll their stats like Relics' own relics, between half and the full usual value, so quality and rerolls mean something. They cost what Relics' relics cost to level (10,000 experience to the top, up from 5,500) and earn experience more slowly. Accessories you already have keep their stats.
  • In the FTB Quests chapter, the beacon quest now comes after the meteoric iron quest, since the beacon needs it. A chapter that's already in your quest book stays as it is.

The same for every Minecraft version, except that 1.21.3 has no JEI pages (JEI has no 1.21.3 build). Relics is still only on 1.21 and 1.21.1.
