In an ideal world every BlockEntity is created perfectly. No flaws and bugs, or unintended features. To tick a BlockEntity would be uneventful for it would always work. You could sleep safely knowing your world would never be corrupted by being trapped in a crash loop because there would be nothing crashing. What an ideal world that would be.
Unfortunately that is not the world we have. There are two tiers of BlockEntity, ones which don't crash and ones which do. In fairness the ones that do are quite rare, but they're still there and by extension, quite annoying to find. Fear not for your world however. The crashes do not simply have to be taken to the leg, you can fight back with careful catching. Lettuce Not Crash but instead have the rogue BlockEntities removed from the world. Appropriate logging about what had happened comes too, so it might well be worth only installing this if you are trapped by a crash unless you like reading your logs every time you play.
