Important Mechanics

Spyglass

Using a Spyglass on an animal displays useful information, including:

  • Breed / Variant

  • Gender

  • Happiness

  • Pregnancy status (mammals)

  • Additional species-specific information

Happiness System

Tamed animals now have a Happiness bar.

Happiness is required for breeding and affects several gameplay mechanics.

Mammals

Increase happiness by providing proper care:

  • Sheep, cows, bulls and horses need filled Feeding Troughs.

  • Pigs require access to Mud.

Birds

Increase happiness by spreading Corn Foliage using the Corn Bucket.

Breeding & Eggs

Birds can produce both infertile and fertilized eggs.

Infertile Eggs

  • Birds that have not bred will lay infertile eggs.

Fertilized Eggs

  • After breeding, females begin laying fertilized eggs.

If an appropriate nest is nearby, the female walks to it and lays the eggs naturally.

Each bird species uses its own nest type.

You may:

  • Let the mother incubate the eggs.

  • Move the eggs into an Incubator.

Removing eggs from nests will make nearby males aggressively defend the nest until the eggs would normally hatch.

If no nest is available, eggs are laid directly on the ground and must be collected manually.

Mammal Pregnancy

Every mammal uses a complete pregnancy system.

Pregnancy Timeline

500 seconds

  • The female's belly begins to grow.

900 seconds

  • She lies down to prepare for birth.

1000 seconds

  • The babies are born.

Most mammals give birth to 2 offspring, while pigs have a small chance to produce 3 piglets.

Animal Behaviors

Horses

  • Kick players who walk behind them.

  • Three running modes.

  • Press Left Ctrl while mounted to switch gaits.

Sheep

  • Live in organized flocks.

  • Each flock has a leader.

  • Taming the leader allows the whole flock to follow you while holding a Stick.

  • Attacking one sheep causes the entire flock to defend it.

  • The longer a sheep charges before impact, the stronger the damage and knockback.

Bulls

  • Hate the color red.

  • Holding any red item nearby will provoke them into attacking relentlessly.

Swans

  • Form lifelong pairs.

  • Females naturally follow their mates.

  • Losing a partner causes severe depression, eventually leading to death.

Geese

  • Act as natural farm guardians.

  • Chase and attack nearby hostile mobs while loudly honking.

Turkens

  • Lay eggs approximately twice as fast as normal chickens.

Pigs

  • Automatically seek shelter during rain.

  • Can provide Bacon.

  • Small chance of giving birth to 3 piglets.

Guinea Fowl

  • Naturally live and travel in groups.

Crows

  • Can become troublesome around farms.

  • Build Scarecrows to keep them away.

Farming

Corn

Corn can be turned into delicious Popcorn.

Fertilizer

Combine Mud and Worms inside a Composter.

The order does not matter.

Once the composting process finishes, Fertilizer is produced.

Easter Eggs

Several hidden secrets are scattered throughout the mod.

Some examples include:

  • Name a Goose "Detective".

  • Name a Pig "Angry".

  • Find the incredibly rare White Pigeon to receive a shower of diamonds and the Luck effect.

And Much More...

These are only some of the mechanics included in JJ: Farms and Agriculture.

Many hidden interactions, AI behaviors, secrets, and small details are waiting to be discovered throughout your adventure.
