What's new

2026.10.27 // Version 0.9.0 // The config and escalation has been reworked to make things easier to tune. Also introduced the ability to rewind the tape a bit. Every rewind now permanently damages the tape in that world, dragging its calm state up towards its worst, so don't lean on it too heavily! How much each rewind costs (and whether the tape heals over time) is on the Rewind page of the config. Escalation has also been reworked so it's easier to tune: the tape now has a Calm setting (how bad it is on a good day) and a Worst setting (how bad it can ever get). Overall Strength is now called Effect Strength and works the same way in both tape mods: 1.0 is how the mod is meant to look and 2.0 is quite cursed. With Jacob's Audio Tapes installed, its Escalation settings run the shared tape, and this mod's Escalation page makes that clear. Heads up: because a few settings were renamed, Effect Strength, Calm, Worst and Menus go back to their defaults once with this update. The presets now set Calm, Worst and Effect Strength too. New: press ] to flip through camcorder filters (black and white, night green, red, negative, poster, neon, and tiled triple and grid shots), and press \ to take a photo of the tape without the HUD, saved to screenshots/jacobsvideo. The tape can now flash the colour-bars test card when it glitches. And darkness got a little darker: the new Light Reach setting controls how far torches and other lights push into the dark, and by default their glow fades out sooner, so the shadows between torches stay black (set it to 1 for vanilla light). In single-player, the world now waits while the deck's blue screen is up (loading in, respawning, or coming back from a rewind), so nothing can hit you before you can see again, sorry about that! Fixed the loading text and the jammed tape's message drawing over each other after rewinding out of a death. Whew, that was a big one. Thank you so much for checking out my mods!
