This mod multiplies the the beacon effect range. The default multiplier is 3x.

With the default 3x multiplier, here are the new ranges for each level of the beacon:

Level 1: 20 blocks -> 60 blocks

Level 2: 30 blocks -> 90 blocks

Level 3: 40 blocks -> 120 blocks

Level 4: 50 blocks -> 150 blocks

You do not need an ide or text editor, you can simply open the increased_beacon_range.json file with notepad. Keep in mind that if you want to change the config while running minecraft then you will need to restart the game for the changes to take affect.

This mod does not modify the existing beacon boosts the player receives. It is only meant to buff the range so that larger bases can benefit from beacon buffs.

IMPORTANT: If you want to increase the range to something big like 10x/20x or even greater then you will need to have your render distance and simulation render distance up very high. If you are running distant horizons then you should be fine.
