Loved Immersive Portals by qouteall but stuck on 1.21.1?
This is the same mod you remember — rebuilt from the ground up for Minecraft 26.1.2, running on both Fabric and NeoForge.

Immerisve Portal turns nether portals into continuous gateways between dimensions. Stand in the overworld and see lava lakes, netherrack caves, and glowstone ceilings through the obsidian frame. Walk through and arrive on the other side without a loading screen.

This mod is in active development. Current known limitations:

Chunk loading takes a few seconds on first visit

Issues with multiple portals

Items/arrows/entity dont cross portal nicely

 

See-Through Portals
Nether portals render the destination dimension in real time. Look through the obsidian frame and see actual nether terrain. Works in both directions.

Real Block Textures
Not flat colors or approximations — the destination world is rendered using vanilla’s own terrain renderer. Full 3D depth, proper cave geometry, textured block faces, and correct sky/block lighting per dimension.

 

🎮 How It Works

Light a nether portal — portal detection begins automatically

Walk near the portal — destination chunks load in the background

Look through the frame — the other dimension renders in real time inside the obsidian opening

Walk through — teleport to the other side

No keybinds, no config needed. Install and play.

 

❓ FAQ

Does this need to be on the server?
Yes — the server serializes destination chunks (blocks, biomes, light data) and sends them to connected clients. Install on both client and server for multiplayer.

How is this different from Immersive Portals?
This mod follows the same core architecture (stencil buffer rendering, secondary world context-switching, per-dimension chunk loading) but is built from scratch for MC 26.1.2’s new framegraph rendering system and GPU-agnostic pipeline.

Does it affect performance?
Rendering a second dimension through portals uses additional GPU and memory. Performance impact scales with portal render distance.

Can I include this in my modpack?
Yes.
