Fudu Flora 0.1.3 — Gardening, Ruozhu Bamboo & Giant Trees

This release expands gardening, adds Ruozhu bamboo and bamboo armour, introduces giant tree growth, and refreshes plant textures and tree shapes.

Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge 47.3.0 · Java 17

Gardening and Flower Pots

  • Added flower-pot support for tree saplings, shrubs, flowers and Ruozhu shoots, including flowering and non-flowering flower variants.

  • Added harvesting with vanilla shears for all eight flower varieties, all six flowering shrubs, and flowering Flamboyant, Golden Osmanthus and Silver Osmanthus leaves.

  • Shearing flowers or shrubs collects the corresponding flower and leaves the plant in its non-flowering state. Flowering tree leaves become their non-flowering variant.

  • Flowers now have separate flowering and non-flowering items. Only flowering plants can be harvested; bone meal restores flowers to non-flowering plants, including potted plants.

  • Added matching dye recipes for harvested flowers. Existing flowers and shrub/tree blossoms produce one matching dye; the new Clivia and Marigolds produce two.

  • Shrubs now bloom and lose their flowers through random ticks, both in the ground and in pots. Ground-planted shrubs retain bone-meal tree growth; they do not naturally turn into trees, and potted shrubs remain decorative.

  • Removed the distracting internal cross planes from shrubs and potted shrubs while retaining their azalea-like outer form.

New Flowers and Visual Improvements

  • Added Clivia, a two-block-tall plant with broad basal strap leaves, one upright flower stalk and a compact orange-red flower cluster. Its flowers craft into orange dye.

  • Added Purple, White and Yellow Marigolds, each with four flower heads and a visual height of 1.5 blocks. Each produces its matching dye colour.

  • Marigolds use two block positions for placement and harvesting, so leave room above them when planting.

  • Reworked all eight flower varieties around vanilla-style, double-sided cross planes with centred, symmetric silhouettes and native 16×16 textures. Tall plants use a separate 16×16 sprite for each half.

  • Replaced broad, regular colour bands with small, irregular highlights and shadows across petals, leaves and stems. Updated both flower forms, inventory icons and potted appearances.

  • Repainted log-end textures with mottled growth rings and removed the diagonal crack marks.

Trees and Growth

  • Added giant Ginkgo and Banyan trees grown from four matching saplings placed in a 2×2 square. Any corner can trigger giant growth through bone meal or natural sapling growth.

  • Giant Ginkgo trees have fuller, connected inner foliage and a tapering crown. Giant Banyans form a broad, connected canopy with spreading branches.

  • Ordinary trees now grow with single-block trunk bases. Only four-sapling giant Ginkgo and Banyan trees retain thick 2×2 trunks.

  • Banyan aerial roots now start at varied branch locations with different counts and lengths, replacing the fixed four-position arrangement. Root chains remain anchored to wood and stop at obstacles.

  • Fixed tree growth around buildings: an obstacle stops the affected branch or foliage path and its continuation, while unobstructed directions can still grow. Trees no longer skip a wall or roof and resume growing behind it.

  • Fixed newly grown Flamboyant canopies so approximately one quarter of their leaves are flowering, with the remainder using non-flowering leaves.

  • Existing single-sapling growth remains available. Tree flowers do not gain a random-tick blooming or wilting cycle.

Ruozhu Bamboo

  • Added Ruozhu Shoots, Bamboo Internodes and Bamboo Poles.

  • Plant up to four stalks in one block. Each planted shoot occupies a random empty quadrant, starts as a small shoot, and matures into a short leafy stalk before growing upward.

  • Each stalk has its own saved maximum height of 6–12 blocks, preventing every stalk from eventually reaching the same height. Low stalk sections also grow leaves.

  • Natural growth uses random ticks. Bone meal advances one eligible quadrant at a time in order, skipping absent, blocked or fully grown stalks.

  • Added natural reproduction: mature clumps fill their own empty quadrants first, then spread to suitable neighbouring ground through four saved, randomly selected directions.

  • Added stable density control: approximately 35% of horizontal ground positions allow new natural Ruozhu clumps. Reserved clearings do not become eligible after repeated growth attempts, so later generations cannot eventually fill every gap. Manual planting remains unrestricted.

  • Added Ruozhu patches to newly generated vanilla Bamboo Jungle chunks while preserving vanilla bamboo. The same spatial density rule applies to these patches.

  • Cutting bamboo drops internodes according to the actual stalk count in each removed layer, including all unsupported layers above the cut.

  • Hoes and shovels recover immature shoots. Bare-handed mining causes periodic prick damage and yields no drops from immature shoots; mature stalks retain their internode drops.

  • Both shoots and internodes can feed and attract pandas and support breeding. Internodes also work as fuel; shoots can be planted in flower pots.

  • Fixed planting flicker and quadrant changes by making random placement server-controlled. Aligned stalk models, selection outlines and collision shapes.

Bamboo Armour and Crafting

  • Added a full Bamboo Armour set, with base protection and durability matching iron armour. Repair it with Bamboo Poles.

  • Each piece reduces non-projectile damage by an additional 12.5%, for 50% with the full set.

  • Each piece also increases fire damage by 12.5%, up to 50%. Fire damage uses the fire penalty rather than also receiving the non-projectile reduction.

  • Added segmented 3D armour inspired by Edo-period lamellar armour, including an open-face helmet, layered shoulder guards, cuirass, tassets and greaves, with updated inventory icons.

  • 9 Bamboo Internodes in a 3×3 grid → 1 vanilla Bamboo Planks.

  • 3 Bamboo Internodes in a vertical column → 1 Bamboo Pole.

  • Craft Bamboo Poles in the standard armour patterns to make the helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots.

More Wooden Building Blocks

  • Added stairs, slabs, fences and fence gates for all ten existing plank types: Plane, Ginkgo, Scholar Tree, Golden Rain Tree, Camphor, Zelkova, White Poplar, Flamboyant, Osmanthus and Banyan.

  • Includes 40 new building blocks with matching textures and crafting recipes.

Updating from 0.1.2

  • Back up your world and replace the old Fudu Flora JAR on both the client and server. Keep only one version installed on each side.

  • Existing trees and bamboo are preserved. New tree shapes and growth rules affect future growth; existing dense bamboo patches are not automatically thinned.

  • New Ruozhu world generation requires newly generated Bamboo Jungle chunks. The density rule controls Fudu Flora’s Ruozhu, leaving vanilla bamboo generation unchanged.

  • Texture updates apply to existing blocks after resources reload.

  • An updated Complementary Unbound + Euphoria Patches compatibility patch is supplied separately for Fudu Flora vegetation material mappings.

Validated with 29 behaviour tests, a packaged-mod compatibility world using 23 related mods, 2,808 client model checks, existing-save reload checks, and additional offline checks covering 1,800 tree shapes.
