Description
Flame, Fuel, Farm & Forge (FFFF) is a lightweight realism-focused mod inspired by a coding class project. It began as an experiment to make torches burn out — and quickly grew into a full early-game progression overhaul, adding tin, bronze, lantern fueling, animal fat, accurate ore names, and more.
This mod is great for players who enjoy:
- Survival challenge
- Base-building
- Historical immersion
- Automation experiments
- Early-game resource progression
Torches Burn Out
Regular and copper torches now behave more realistically:
Torch Lifespans
- Regular Torch: ~1 Minecraft day
- Copper Torch: ~3 Minecraft days
When a torch burns out, it becomes a Burnt Torch:
- Mining a burnt torch drops ashes (nothing)
- Mining a torch before it burns out drops Kindling
- Kindling works as a low-grade furnace fuel
Torches Cause Fire Damage
Torches are now mildly dangerous:
- Walking through a torch’s hitbox can cause small fire damage
- Mobs take the same damage
- Hitting a creature with a torch ignites it — works for all torch types
- Regular torches can ignite flammable blocks they’re placed on
- Copper torches do not ignite blocks
- Anthracite (coal ore) is flammable — place carefully!
Smarter World-Gen Lighting
Village torches and other world-generated torches are replaced with:
- Copper Torches, or
- Lanterns (preferred when placement allows)
Copper torches from world-gen can still burn out naturally.
Animals Drop Fat
Some animals now drop Animal Fat, used for:
- Furnace fuel
- Lantern fuel
- Oil production
Lantern Fueling
Lanterns now require fuel:
- All Lanterns
- Have one internal fuel slot
- Holds 16 units of fuel (Oil or Animal Fat)
- 1 Animal Fat = 1 day of light
- 1 Bottle of Oil = 3 days of light
Bronze Hoppers are included:
- 3 slots (smaller capacity)
- Slower than iron hoppers
Copper Kettle
A new container similar to a cauldron, but:
- Max capacity 2
- Cannot hold hot liquids
- Accepts Animal Fat, Oil, or Water
Placed over heat → converts Animal Fat → Oil
Bonus:
- Composters now drip Oil whenever they produce bone meal. A Copper Kettle or Cauldron placed beneath catches the oil.
Ore items have been renamed for historical realism:
- Raw Copper → Malachite
- Coal → Anthracite
The functionality is exactly the same, they are just renamed.
Tin, Bronze & Early Tools
Adds Cassiterite Ore → Tin Ingots, craftable into nuggets and blocks.
Bronze
Combining tin + copper allows crafting:
- Bronze Tools
- Bronze Weapons
- Bronze Armor
- Bronze Blocks / Ingots / Nuggets
Copper equipment is disabled (historically inaccurate). Stone swords, pickaxes, and shovels are disabled (unrealistic tools).
Brass
We have added Sphalerite Ore, which can be smelted in a Blast Furnace into Zinc Ingots.
For now you can't do much with it, but we have massive plans for the Brass Age future. Think steampunk!
