Federation Of Kaos: Outbreak Protocol 1.8.0

Everything since 1.2.0. Network protocol 21: client and server jars must match. Existing worlds get the new config keys with their defaults on next load; keys that still exist keep their values.

See what the infected see (1.8.0)

  • Stealth readout. With Augment Protocol's Tactical HUD (any tier) a slim row above the infection panel reads UNSEEN, IN SIGHT, SPOTTED or HUNTED ×n, with the light level you stand in and the distance to the nearest infected.
  • Cone minimap. With Tactical HUD II or III, Hostile Radar or Hunter, a small disc in the top-right shows every infected you can see within 24 blocks and the shape it would pick you out in, for your light and stance. Nothing behind a wall is ever shown. Ground cones can be switched on with stealthVisionCones (ships off).
  • Zombie skin packs reach the infected variants. With a random-zombie-skin resource pack enabled, Runners, Ferals and Outbreak Zombies render with the vanilla zombie texture so the pack's skins apply to them too.

Hordes dig, spotters scream (1.7.0)

  • Hordes break through. During a horde event, members that cannot reach you dig through anything TNT would break: planks in about 4 s, stone 3 s, iron 8 s; several on one block share the work. Blast-proof blocks and anything with a container stand. Only live horde members dig, only toward you, only within 24 blocks. Needs mobGriefing.
  • A zombie that spots you screams. A common infected that sees you growls, holds you for 3 to 5 seconds, then screams: its herd within 24 blocks comes at you and everything within 26 blocks investigates. Kill it before the scream and nobody else learns. At most one scream per zombie every 30 seconds, never inside a horde.
  • Death Bats hunt like phantoms. A Death Bat circles its target a few blocks up, keeping the chase through cover, and dives whenever it can see you. Under a roof it circles and waits.
  • Mission hordes (with Kaos Missions 0.6.0). Hordes a mission calls for spawn from the direction of the objective and keep after the carrier; they are not Director horde events, so the Director's own hordes still fire on top.
  • The infection readout moves to the corner. A bottom-left panel with an icon, the label, the real-time countdown and a thicker bar; the virus mark becomes a zombie skull at stage IV.

Sneak up on the infected (1.6.0)

  • An infected has to see you before it comes for you: full range inside a 120° cone in front of its head, half to the side, 15 % behind; 30 % in total darkness; 0.6× while sneaking; vanilla's 2-block floor always applies. A sneaking player never draws an idle infected's glance. Hitting one always aggros it. The Stalker keeps full senses. New [stealth] config keys; groupConfirmDelayTicks under [group].

The Director sends specials and hordes on its own (1.5.0)

  • Idle specials after 60 to 150 s with nothing on you; calm hordes after 6 to 12 minutes of calm since the last horde. Every eligible special type can be picked, weighted by the situation; Brutes and Death Bats show up far more often. Specials bring 1 to 5 escorts. Kaos Hunter marks near you count as pressure. New keys specialIdleMinSeconds, specialIdleMaxSeconds, calmHordeMinSeconds, calmHordeMaxSeconds, specialEscort*, hunterTension* replace calmSpecialSeconds and calmHordeSeconds.
  • The Director logs one INFO line a minute while the tick guard is holding spawns.

Armor matters (1.4.0)

  • Under Realism, the armor you wear lowers both the infection chance and the wound chance of a bite, for every armor type, modded included. Full iron cuts infection by 37.5 %, diamond 60 %, netherite 65 %, never more than 80 %. /outbreak realism shows what your armor is worth.

Every bite can be the one (1.3.0)

  • Under Realism (realismEnabled, on by default), a bite that does not infect outright has a 35 % chance to open a bleeding wound for 4 in-game hours; left uncleaned it rolls 50 % to fester into a full infection. Boiled Water (cook a water bottle) rinses a wound in its first 2 hours; an Antibiotic (penicillin + boiled water + red mushroom, makes 2) cleans one at any age. Ops: /outbreak realism, /outbreak wound.
