A mod that revamps the vanilla enchanting system, introducing Enchanting Scrolls!

Description

Introducing a revamp to the enchanting system, Enchant Scrolls!

Enchant Scrolls

  • By default, it replaces Enchanted Books in loot and villager trades.
  • Similar to Enchanted Books in the way that they contain enchantments you can apply to items.
  • To enchant, use with an item in your off-hand
  • While an Anvil is no longer required, applying Magic Powder to the target item is now required (configurable).
  • Each enchant only has a chance of succeeding, determined by the rank and rarity, if it is a treasure enchant, tradeable from villagers, a curse, and by the level of the enchant (rates configurable)
  • The results of each enchant on a scroll can differ; some may apply, and some may fail.
  • The level applied by the enchant is also not entirely guaranteed, but is also rolled, and can be influenced by other things, such as enchantability and the Enchanting Star.
  • When succeeding, there is a 20% chance (configurable) for a Critical Success, causing the applied level of the enchant to match the level on the scroll, and on top of that, there is a 20% chance again (configurable) for the enchant to be applied one level higher, exceeding the vanilla maximum (configurable).
  • While failing, the item being enchanted will lose durability, and if there is a Huge Failure (10%) (configurable), the item may lose max durability as well.

Magic Powders

  • By default, Magic Powders must be applied to an item to allow enchanting
  • The recipe shipped with the mod is designed to be simple while maintaining a dependency on Lapis Lazuli, but also requires less commonly used resources such as Coal, Redstone, and Quartz.
  • Magic Powder (Basic) recipe
  • There are upgrades to different tiers of Magic Powders, which increase the success rate of enchanting, including a flat bonus and a base multiplier (configurable).
  • Basic Magic Powders can be upgraded to higher tiers, from Basic to Blessed, to Elite, and then Ancient.
  • Currently, the basic Magic Powders include:
    • Magic Powder (Basic): 0% flat bonus, 0% base multiplier
    • Magic Powder (Blessed): +1% flat bonus, +10% base multiplier
    • Magic Powder (Elite): +2% flat bonus, +15% base multiplier
    • Magic Powder (Ancient): +5% flat bonus, +20% base multiplier
  • Magic Powder (Ancient) can be upgraded into advanced tiers, each with unique recipes, including:
    • Magic Powder (Harmonious): +0% flat bonus, +50% base multiplier
    • Magic Powder (Corrupt): +15%  flat bonus, -50% base multiplier
    • Magic Powder (Scorched): -20% flat bonus, +80% base multiplier
    • Magic Powder (Divine): +20% flat bonus, +50% base multiplier

*All rates for Magic Powders are configurable

Enchanting Stars

  • After defeating the Wither and acquiring a Nether Star, you can begin crafting Enchanting Stars.
  • All Enchanting Star variants are crafted from the base Enchanting Star.

Enchanting Star recipe

  • Currently, the existing Enchanting Stars are:
  • Enchanting Star:
    • Used to craft other stars.
    • Positively influences enchanting by multiplying an item's enchantability influence on level application when in the main inventory, at the cost of Charges.
    • Has a charge amount of 100 (configurable) that can be recharged with Lapis Lazuli in an Anvil.
  • Enchanting Star (Absorption):
    • Used to remove curses from an enchanted item in the off-hand
  • Enchanting Star (Voiding):
    • Used to remove all enchants from an item in the off-hand
  • Enchanting Star (Protection):
    • While kept in the main inventory, if any enchant fails to apply, enchanting is cancelled, and nothing is lost.
  • Enchanting Star (Recovery):
    • Used to restore max durability and re-enable enchanting for an item in the off-hand

Scroll Fragments

  • Acquired from loot, when an Enchant Scroll has only one enchant, there is a high probability it spawns as a Scroll Fragment (configurable).
  • Can also be acquired from Catalyst - Protego Magnum/Maximum/Ultimum
  • Used to craft Enchant Scrolls
  • Combine: Use with another fragment in Anvil to fuse, costs: Total Levels + # of Enchants x 2
  • Form: Use with any Leather in Anvil to form an Enchant Scroll, costs: 5 + Total Levels + # Enchants

Catalysts

  • While fully functional, they are not currently obtainable via crafting or loot.
  • These items work similarly to Magic Powder in that they are applied to an item, the Enchant Scrolls themselves.
  • Catalysts come in several forms, with 4 tiers each that possess differing qualities and/or effects.
  • Currently, there are seven forms of Catalysts, with the tiers "Primum" (first), "Magnum" (great), "Maximum" (greatest), and "Ultimum" (ultimate/extreme):
  • Catalyst - Protego (Protection) *Enchants kept on failure will be retrieved as Scroll Fragments
    • Primum: No durability loss
    • Magnum: Enchants are not lost on failure
    • Maximum: No durability loss, Enchants are not lost on failure
    • Ultimum: No durability loss, Enchants are not lost on failure, No Huge Failure penalty
  • Catalyst - Restauro (Restore)
    • Primum: Halves durability loss
    • Magnum: Halves durability loss, Restores 50% durability
    • Maximum: No durability loss, Restores 50% durability
    • Ultimum: No durability loss, Restores 100% durability
  • Catalyst - Immolo (Sacrifice)
    • Primum: -10% durability guaranteed, +25% flat success rate
    • Magnum: -20% durability guaranteed, +50% flat success rate
    • Maximum: -30% durability guaranteed, +75% flat success rate
