ElytraBackSlot
Stop choosing between a chestplate and your wings. This mod lets you wear the vanilla Elytra in the
cape slot of
Accessories or
Trinkets, so you can fly
and keep a real chestplate equipped at the same time.
✨ Features
- Elytra in the cape slot — equip your wings as an accessory, leaving the chestplate slot free for armor.
- Both slots work in parallel — wear a Netherite Chestplate AND a cape-slot Elytra at the same time. The chestplate gives you defense, the Elytra gives you flight.
- Full vanilla flight behavior — flight works exactly like with a chestplate-Elytra: double-tap space to glide, fireworks for boost, durability ticks down normally as you fly.
- Vanilla wing rendering — the actual Elytra wing model and animation render on your back when flying, not a flat cape texture.
- Automatic framework detection — runtime auto-detection of whichever accessory framework is installed; just drop the mod in and it works.
- No config required — zero setup, zero commands.
🎮 How it works
- Install the mod alongside Accessories OR Trinkets (or both).
- Open the accessory UI:
- Accessories: press
H to open the dedicated accessories screen.
- Trinkets: open your inventory — the cape slot appears in the sidebar.
- Drag your Elytra into the cape slot.
- Jump and press space mid-air — the wings unfold, you glide, durability decreases as expected.
- Equip any chestplate you like in the regular armor slot — full armor stats stay active.
🔧 Compatibility
- ✅ Accessories (Wisp Forest) — uses the built-in
cape slot, suppresses the default cape rendering so only the vanilla wings show during flight.
- ✅ Trinkets (emilyploszaj) — adds the
chest/cape slot to the player and registers the Elytra as a valid item.
- ⚠️ Curios (Fabric) — not natively supported; the Fabric port of Curios is largely unmaintained. If you need it, use accessories-compat-layer which routes Curios calls through Accessories (your mileage may vary depending on version compatibility).
❓ FAQ
Q: Do I lose flight if I take damage and lose all my Elytra durability? A: Same as vanilla — when the Elytra hits zero usable durability, you stop gliding. The broken Elytra stays in the cape slot until you replace it.
Q: Can I wear an Elytra in BOTH the chestplate slot and the cape slot? A: Yes, but the vanilla chestplate-Elytra takes priority. The cape-slot one is the fallback when the chest slot has no Elytra (or has a regular chestplate instead).
Q: Does this work on multiplayer servers? A: Yes, but the mod must be installed on
both server and client. Server validates the flight, client renders the wings.
Q: Will it crash if I have neither Accessories nor Trinkets installed? A: No, it just does nothing in that case — no crash, no errors.
