A simple, vanilla-friendly mod that gives your tamed wolves a home.

In vanilla, a dog can only follow you or sit. Dog house adds a third thing: a place of its own. Build a kennel, tie your wolf to it with a Dog Tag, and the dog wanders around its home during the day, goes inside to sit when night falls or it rains, and walks back out in the morning. No more choosing between a wolf glued to your heels and a statue.

How it works

1. Craft a Kennel and place it. Its opening faces you.
2. Craft a Dog Tag and right-click your tamed wolf with it. Hearts pop up and the tag now belongs to that wolf. (Rename the tag in an anvil first if you want to name the wolf.) The tag is not used up.
3. Open the kennel (right-click it), put the Dog Tag in its slot and press the paw. The wolf is now free, and its collar glows green so you can tell at a glance which wolves are at home.

From then on:

• During the day the wolf wanders within the radius you chose (4 to 32 blocks).
• At night and when it rains, it walks to the kennel, goes in, and sits facing the door.
• In the morning it stands up and walks straight out.
• Click the wolf with an empty hand and it leaves the kennel and follows you again. Press the paw again to send it home.
• If the wolf is far from home it walks back by itself.
• Take the Dog Tag out of the kennel (or break the kennel) and the wolf is yours again. A Dog Tag can be moved to another kennel, or used on a different wolf.

Make it yours

• 11 kennels, one per wood (oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, bamboo, crimson and warped), and 11 matching roofs. Mix and match.
• A bed: put any carpet in the kennel and a cosy bed appears in the colour of the carpet.
• Paint it: put a dye in the house slot or the roof slot to paint it a smooth colour. Take the dye out and the wood comes back.
• Everything you put in the kennel comes back as items when you break it.

The recipes unlock as you pick up planks (kennels and roofs) and bones (Dog Tag).

Good to know

• Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge. Install it on the client and, for multiplayer, on the server.
• Languages: English, Português (Brasil) and Español. Any other language shows English.
• Wolf renderer: to draw the glowing collar and to keep a wolf's tail out of the kennel wall, the mod uses its own wolf renderer. A mod that also replaces the wolf renderer may conflict with it.
• Admin command: /doghouse homes (operators) lists the registered kennels.

FAQ

Do I need to do anything for wolves I already have? No. Give one a Dog Tag and a kennel and it works.

What if my wolf dies? Its Dog Tag stays in the kennel and does nothing. Take it out and use it on another wolf.

Is the wolf protected inside? It is out of the rain and the kennel has walls and a roof, but the door is open. It is a home, not a fortress.

Does it change wild wolves or other animals? No. Only tamed wolves with a home are affected.
