About

Cobblemon Grass Spawn makes wild encounters feel closer to the classic Pokemon games.

Walk through grass, move through water, and you may suddenly run into a wild Pokemon. The Pokemon is chosen using Cobblemon's own spawn data, so the area, biome, conditions, and rarity still matter. When an encounter happens, the Pokemon appears near you and, by default, the battle starts right away.

The mod also adds Repels and Lures, giving you more control over when you want encounters, when you want to avoid them, and when you want to hunt for specific Pokemon types.

What It Adds

  • Random wild encounters while walking through grass.
  • Water encounters while swimming or moving through water.
  • Automatic Cobblemon battles when an encounter starts, with an option to only spawn the Pokemon instead.
  • Pokemon selected from the current area's valid Cobblemon spawns.
  • Wild Pokemon levels based around your party.
  • Repels to stop encounters while exploring.
  • Lures to improve shiny odds and influence encounter weights.
  • Type Lures for every Pokemon type.
  • Configurable encounter chances, cooldowns, shiny odds, lure duration, repel duration, and spawn weights.

Repels

Repels are useful when you want to travel without being interrupted by wild battles.

  • Repel lasts 6 minutes by default.
  • Super Repel lasts 12 minutes by default.
  • Max Repel lasts 30 minutes by default.

Using another Repel while Repel is already active extends the current Repel time. If you use a Lure while Repel is active, the Repel is removed and replaced by the Lure.

Lures

Lures are for players who want more active hunting. They improve shiny odds and influence which Pokemon are more likely to be selected.

  • Lure lasts 6 minutes by default.
  • Super Lure lasts 12 minutes by default.
  • Max Lure lasts 30 minutes by default.

Using another standard Lure while one is already active extends the current Lure time. If you use a Repel while a Lure is active, the Lure is removed and replaced by the Repel.

Type Lures

Type Lures help you focus your hunt on a specific Pokemon type.

Available types:

Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel, and Fairy.

Type Lures last 30 minutes by default.

Type Lures only extend each other when they are the same type. For example, using another Fairy Type Lure while Fairy Type Lure is active extends the time. Using a Fire Type Lure instead replaces the Fairy Type Lure.

Standard Lures and Repels also replace Type Lures.

How Encounters Work

When you move through a valid grass or water area, the mod checks whether an encounter should happen. If it does, it looks at the Pokemon that can spawn around you, builds a weighted list, chooses one, spawns it nearby, and starts the battle if automatic battles are enabled.

If autoStartBattles is set to false, the Pokemon appears nearby and the player receives a message instead. If the player moves farther away than manualEncounterDespawnDistance, that Pokemon is removed.

Encounters will not start if:

  • You are in spectator mode.
  • You are riding something.
  • Repel is active.
  • You have no usable Pokemon in your party.
  • You are already in a battle.

If you flee from a battle created by this mod, the wild encounter Pokemon is removed.
