Chunk Border Random

Chunk Border Random is a progression-based Minecraft mod where every player starts trapped inside a single random chunk, surrounded by impassable barriers. To expand your world, you must unlock neighboring chunks by paying randomly generated item costs or using Chunk Coins.

Every unlocked chunk brings new possibilities, new resources, and new risks. Progress from simple vanilla requests to advanced modded resources through a staged pool system.

Features

Start From One Chunk

Each player spawns inside a randomly assigned starting chunk, placed far away from other players by default.

Your initial chunk is surrounded by barriers, and each adjacent chunk displays its unlock cost directly on the border.

Unlock neighboring chunks, expand your playable area, and slowly rebuild access to the world around you.

Random Chunk Unlock Costs

Each locked chunk receives a random unlock cost.

Costs scale with your progression through different item pools:

Early
Bronze
Silver
Electrum
Draconium

The first 30 unlocks use vanilla-only items, making early progression smoother and preventing impossible starts.

Chunk Coin Economy

A Chunk Coin Trader villager spawns in your starting chunk.

This trader offers rotating daily trades that allow you to earn Chunk Coins by exchanging items.

Chunk Coins can then be used as an alternative way to unlock chunks when you do not have the requested item.

The trader can also occasionally offer special Chunky Coins, such as:

Bronze Chunky Coins
Nature Chunky Coins
Rare Silver Chunky Coins

If your trader is lost or killed, you can respawn it through the quest book for 1 emerald.

Multiplayer Instances

Each player has their own independent Chunk Border instance.

That means your progression is separated from other players unless you choose to join them.

You can merge into another player’s instance with:

/chunkrandom join <player>

Once joined, players share the same unlocked chunks and progression.

Trading Box

The Trading Box allows teammates to send one item stack to each other per day.

This is useful for cooperative progression without completely breaking the limited-chunk gameplay.

Meeting Other Players

Players from different instances can meet through proximity detection.

Stand within 10 blocks of another player from a different instance to complete the The Meeting quest.

/chunkrandom status

Shows your current pool stage and instance information.

/chunkrandom costs

Displays the unlock costs of adjacent chunks.

/chunkrandom unlock <direction>

Unlocks a chunk using the requested items.

/chunkrandom unlockcoins <direction>

Unlocks a chunk using Chunk Coins instead of items.

/chunkrandom reroll <direction>

Rerolls the unlock cost of a chunk.

/chunkrandom retry

Reassigns your starting chunk if you are stuck. Only available before unlocking any chunk.

/chunkrandom trader respawn

Respawns your Chunk Coin Trader. Costs 1 emerald in survival mode.

/chunkrandom join <player>

Joins another player’s Chunk Border instance and shares their progression.
