Chocobos Reborn 1.1.9 - In Their Element

Every shortcut pays

• A climber now bounds up a ridge in two or three ticks instead of crawling up it like a ladder, lands on top running, and keeps its pace through the hop and the drop off the far end. Before, the climb usually cost a Green more time than the detour saved.
• A bird on terrain it suits is in its element there: a climber races along the ridge top, a river bird skims the water and a lava bird rides the lava, each faster than on the road.
• Every water, ridge and lava crossing on all 48 courses was timed against the way round. The bird that suits it now comes out ahead on all of them.
• On Moonshelf Hollow, the lava's shortcut gantry stood low enough that a bird coming off the ridge before it hit its head on the beam. Gantries near a ridge now stand higher. Courses rebuild themselves the next time they are raced.

A tougher field

• The regular racers keep up with a trained bird. When a heat starts they take a floor off the best rider's bird, for both pace and training, a step behind Teiyo and Jolo, who are still the hardest birds on the card.
• They also dash harder in every class, and in Classes C and B they stumble less, get off the line sooner and hit more boost strips.
• A trained bird driven well still wins, but now it is a race, not a lap. An early Class B bird needs a little more training to beat the field than before.

Smoother races

• Other birds are no longer drawn far behind where they really are. Above about 1.35 blocks a tick (Class A and S, or any dash), the game's smoothing fed on itself and could show a bird up to eleven blocks behind its real position.
• A racer pressed against the rail before a detour opening runs along it into the opening instead of hopping against it.
• The hens' meshes are built when the game loads, so a hen coming into view mid-race no longer causes a stutter.
