Description
Charcoal Ore is a mod that adds charcoal ore to the game. Charcoal is the only ore without an ore block, therefore this mod adds charcoal ore to rectify the gameplay discontinuity.
Charcoal ore is different from regular coal ore because it drops charcoal, and spawns at higher elevations. This makes it more useful in early game. It also is 3.333% faster to mine charcoal ore than regular coal ore, although in practice it is hard to tell it is faster because the difference in mining speed is so small. Like coal ore, charcoal ore spawns in the overworld, and its drop chance is affected by fortune.
How else is charcoal ore useful? Well, if you use the mod ProjectE, you will notice that charcoal has a lower EMC cost than regular coal, even though it can smelt the same number of items. This may make charcoal ore useful for balancing modpacks.
