Better Inventory 2.0.0 (Forge 1.20.1)
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
Better Inventory 2.0.0 (NeoForge 1.21.1, Fabric 1.21.1, Forge 1.20.1, Fabric 1.20.1)
A new layout for the whole inventory. Your items carry over from 1.x, see "Coming from 1.x" at the end.
- Tabs no longer swap your main inventory (reported by hisakid and MF_DUFF on CurseForge). The tabs along the top now only page the 5x9 area above your inventory: your 27 main slots and the hotbar stay the same on every tab. If you liked the old way, turn on
tabs.pageMainInventory. Switching it either way moves your items across the next time you are online, and nothing is dropped. - The tabs are your backpack's pages, one per level: a level 1 backpack gives you one page, level 5 all five. The "0" tab, the 5x9 of your own that 1.x had, is gone; what it held moves into your backpack's pages (or your inventory) as soon as there is room. Without a backpack the inventory opens on the gear tab, where one goes on.
- New: side tabs. Tabs right of the inventory, level with the gear rows, choose what the panel on its left shows: your player, the item zoom (the item under the pointer, enlarged - in JEI's item list too), crafting, the furnace of the new Furnace Upgrade (its tab is shut until one is in) and accessories. Click the open tab again to close the panel. Each tab can be switched off in the client config (
panel.playerTab,panel.craftingTab,panel.furnaceTab,panel.accessoriesTab,zoom.enabled). - New: the accessories tab takes the place of the mod buttons. Every accessory mod you have gets a sub-tab, with its slots right in the panel: Curios, Cosmetic Armor Reworked, the Aether and Accessories on NeoForge and Forge, Accessories and Trinkets on Fabric. With the tab open, shift-click an accessory to put it on, click the small switch on a slot to show or hide it on your player, and right-click a sub-tab to open that mod's own screen. More than twenty slots get a pager.
- New: the gear tab, the first tab in the row. It shows your equipment where the 5x9 area is:
- Row 1: four and four, like the rows below it: your backpack's upgrades - three slots at level 1, four from level 2 - then the new Trash Upgrade, the stack upgrade, the crafting upgrade and the new Furnace Upgrade. The trash slot opens once a Trash Upgrade is in; the Furnace Upgrade adds the furnace tab.
- Row 2: the new Armor Pack, which holds a second armor set, and the button that swaps it with the armor you wear. With
armor.swapEmptySlotsoff, only pieces that have one to change places with are swapped. - Row 3: the new Tool Belt (3, 6 or 9 tools at level I, II, III). The right tool is used by itself when you mine or fight, as the tool rack did, and it now takes any tool or weapon.
- Row 4: the new Quiver (2, 3 or 4 stacks of arrows; your bow and crossbow shoot these first) and your four offhand slots.
- New: the tool wheel. Hold R, point at a tool on your belt and let go: it is in your hand until you change hotbar slot, and shows in the slot right of your hotbar. Tap R instead and the wheel stays open for a click. The middle of the wheel is "Auto", where the belt picks for each block and hit; choosing it puts your own item back in your hand at once.
- New: a second hotbar, off by default. Turn on
hotbar.secondHotbarand a second row stands behind your hotbar, the top of it showing so you see what is in it, with its own row above the hotbar in the inventory. Scroll off either end of your hotbar and you move on into it - the two rows trade places - or press X to trade them outright.hotbar.secondHotbarSize(1 to 9) sets how many slots it has, from the left. - Every part can be switched off for everyone on a server (
featuresin the common config): the tool belt, armor pack, quiver, each upgrade, the stack upgrades, the crafting upgrades, the trash upgrade (off: the trash slot is open to everyone) and the furnace upgrade. A part that is off loses its slots and its recipes, and does nothing. What a player had in it comes back to their inventory as soon as there is room. - Mods that raise stack sizes now win (Bigger Stacks, StackPlus, AllStackable, Stack Size Edit and others). When one is installed, its sizes apply everywhere, this mod's own storage included, and the stack upgrades are switched off.
stacks.stackSizesin the startup config:AUTO(the default),ONto keep this mod's sizes anyway,OFFto never change sizes. - Pick Block reaches into your storage, on by default. When the block you middle-click is nowhere in your inventory, a stack of it comes from your backpack's pages into your hotbar (
inventory.pickBlockFromStorage). - Fixed: knives and Better Combat weapons were swapped for the tool rack's sword (reported by OhHeyItsK on Discord). Knives (Farmer's Delight's and anything tagged as a knife) and every weapon Better Combat knows, daggers, scythes and glaives among them, now count as weapons: hitting with one keeps it in your hand.
- The look: the gear tab is a set of compartments now - one framed bar per group (the upgrades, each armor set, the tools, the offhand slots, the arrows) with the world between them, each as long as its piece can ever hold, with the slots its level does not open yet shaded (a level 1 belt opens three of its nine, a level 1 backpack three of its five upgrade slots), and a small key between the two armor sets to swap them. The tabs are one width throughout, and the accessories panel is a row of tabs over bars of four slots, sixteen a page.
- The hovered slot lights the whole cell: vanilla's highlight left a dark line on two of its sides, and with Slate its ring sat a pixel off. Under Slate the tool wheel takes Slate's colours too. Your active effects line up from the right, beside the inventory, and the quiver's empty slot has a clearer arrow.
- The tabs, the sort keys and the other keys of the inventory click like buttons.
- The button that switches to Minecraft's own inventory sits above the trash slot now, and can be hidden (
inventory.swapButtonin the client config). With no side panel open, JEI's list on the left comes up to the inventory. - After a death, your gear always finds its way back: a belt, armor pack or quiver you pick up after your backpack is no longer swept into the backpack's page by the gather hub, but goes back into its own slot.
- On NeoForge, the mod's config screen names every option.
Coming from 1.x. Nothing is lost. What your own 5x9 (the "0" tab) held moves into your backpack's pages, or your inventory, as room appears. If you had tools in the tool rack, you now wear a Tool Belt II with every tool in its old place. If you had a second armor set, you now wear an Armor Pack with it inside. The tool rack and the second armor set are no longer free: new players craft the belt and the pack. The Slate Building toolbox slot is gone; a toolbox that was in it comes back to your inventory. The trash slot now needs a Trash Upgrade. A Furnace Crafting Upgrade is no longer made: one in the crafting-upgrade slot becomes an Advanced Crafting Upgrade and a Furnace Upgrade, and any other you have does the same once you put it there.
Recipes. Tool Belt I: leather around a row of string, iron ingot, string. Armor Pack: leather around an armor stand and a chest. Quiver I: leather around string and an arrow. For level II and III, put the lower level in the middle of the grid with leather and chains (belt II), leather and diamonds (belt III), feathers and rabbit hide (quiver II) or feathers and phantom membrane (quiver III) around it; what it holds stays in it. Trash Upgrade: seven iron ingots around a cactus. Furnace Upgrade: two rows of iron ingots, with two furnaces and a blast furnace between them.
Update the server too: the gear, the tabs and the rules are server-side. The options live in config/betterinventory-common.toml, -client.toml and -startup.toml on NeoForge and Forge (on NeoForge also in the mod's config screen), and in the common, client and startup sections of config/betterinventory.json on Fabric. On a server, the server's common config decides for everyone on it.
