Better Farming++ 1.0.0 — The Self-Running Farm
1.0 rebuilds the mod around a farm loop that runs on its own: a new Sprinkler waters and grows the field, the rebuilt Farming Crate harvests, replants and stores it, and better hoes sweep an area when you do it yourself. Right-click harvest now covers every vanilla crop, never destroys anything, and replants with a seed from the drops.
Available for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Fabric, Forge), 1.21.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 (Fabric, NeoForge). Fabric needs Fabric API. JaUML is no longer needed.
New
- Sprinkler. A copper sprinkler (four copper ingots around a bucket) that draws water from up to 4 blocks straight below it (a water block hidden under the field) or from beside it. Every 5 seconds it hydrates all farmland in the 9×9 square around it and gives each growing plant there a 15 % chance of an extra growth tick: about three times as many growth ticks as vanilla. Spray particles show it working; without water it stays dry.
- Hoe sweep. Iron and golden hoes harvest 3×3, diamond 5×5, netherite 7×7 (ripe crops only). Sneak for a single crop. Sizes are configurable per item or item tag.
- Nether wart and cocoa can be right-click harvested (they already had harvest indicators but could not be
harvested), and so can any block in the new
#better_farming_plus:harvestabletag. - Crate screen with a harvest counter, a status lamp (harvesting, storage full, nothing ripe) and the work area.
- No trampling by anyone, players or mobs, by default (the fall still hurts). The 0.5.0 rule is available as
"with_tool". - Harvest Indicators are now a built-in resource pack, on by default, that can be turned off or reordered in the Resource Packs screen.
- Config file
config/better_farming_plus.jsonwith comments; the 0.5.0 file is migrated automatically. - Minecraft 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 (Fabric and NeoForge).
Changed
- Right-click harvest replants with a seed from the drops (one wheat seed, carrot, potato, beetroot seed, nether wart or cocoa bean), instead of a free replant. Drops use the tool, so Fortune counts, and hoes lose 1 durability per crop.
- An empty hand harvests too, and every hoe in
#minecraft:hoes(modded hoes included) instead of six listed ones. - Farming Crate: a centred 9×9 area (radius 4, configurable) on its own layer and one above and below, instead of a lopsided 6×6 on one layer. It replants with a seed from the drops and stores every drop in full. It only harvests a crop when all its drops fit, so a full crate leaves the field standing. It no longer picks up items lying around. Hoppers and pipes take from every face, nothing is pushed in, and comparators read it.
Fixed
- Harvesting copied the crop into the block above it and broke that: whatever stood above a crop was destroyed without dropping. Nothing outside the crop is touched now.
- The crate kept one item of every picked-up stack and deleted the rest, and deleted everything once it was full.
- On 1.21.1 the crate could not be crafted and dropped nothing when broken (its recipe and loot table were in the pre-1.21 folders).
- Trampling protection only worked for the player holding a hoe in the main hand.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.20.1: Fabric, Forge (47.4.0+)
- Minecraft 1.21.1: Fabric, NeoForge (21.1.219+)
- Minecraft 26.1.2, 26.2 (NeoForge 26.2.0.93+), 26.3: Fabric, NeoForge
- Fabric needs Fabric API. Install on the server and on clients.
Upgrade notes
- Farming Crates keep their ids and contents. They start working with the new rules (larger area, nothing lost).
