Betel Nut Mod

Betel Nut Mod is a Minecraft survival expansion mod for Fabric. It focuses on betel nut trees, betel nut harvesting, campfire roasting, flavor processing, villager trading, Farmer's Delight Refabricated cooking-tool integration, and addiction and withdrawal mechanics.

The betel nut-related content in this mod is used only as a game mechanic and gameplay design. It does not represent real-world health advice, nor does it encourage the consumption of betel nut in real life.

Cardinal Components API is used to save player data such as betel nut addiction value, withdrawal value, and the last time betel nut was consumed.

Optional Integration

Farmer's Delight Refabricated

Farmer's Delight Refabricated is not a required dependency. When it is not installed, this mod keeps the vanilla crafting table processing route. When it is installed, the vanilla crafting table recipes for related flavored betel nuts will be hidden through Fabric Resource Conditions and replaced by Farmer's Delight cooking-tool recipes.

Main Gameplay

Find or grow betel nut trees in the world to obtain raw betel nuts and betel nut leaves.

Roast raw betel nuts on a campfire to obtain roasted betel nuts.

Combine roasted betel nuts with paper and different materials to craft various flavored betel nuts.

Eating different betel nuts grants short-term buffs while also increasing addiction value.

After stopping betel nut consumption for a long time, the player will gradually enter a withdrawal state and suffer negative effects, maximum health penalties, food restrictions, and other consequences.

Trade with farmer villagers to obtain betel nut-related items.

World generation, addiction, withdrawal, trading, Ender Betel Nut teleportation, and other behaviors can be adjusted through the configuration file.

Betel Nut Tree System

The mod adds betel nut trees and related wooden blocks, including logs, planks, stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates, leaves, and saplings.

Betel nut trees can be planted with saplings and can also generate naturally in the world. By default, natural generation includes some Overworld biomes, such as jungles, sparse jungles, bamboo jungles, and beaches. Mangrove swamp generation can be enabled through the configuration file. Generation toggles, generation chance, number of trees per chunk, and minimum/maximum tree height can all be adjusted in the configuration file.

Campfire Roasting

Raw betel nuts can be roasted into roasted betel nuts using a campfire:

raw_betel_nut -> roasted_betel_nut

Roasted betel nuts are the base material for most later processing recipes.

Crafting Table Processing

When Farmer's Delight Refabricated is not installed, flavored betel nuts can be crafted using the vanilla crafting table. The common structure is:

After Farmer's Delight Refabricated is installed, the crafting table recipes for flavored betel nuts that already have Farmer's Delight alternative routes will be conditionally hidden. This prevents the same flavor from having both a crafting table route and a cooking-tool route at the same time.

Farmer's Delight Refabricated Cooking-Tool Integration

When Farmer's Delight Refabricated is installed, the mod will load the integration recipes located at:

data/betel-nut-mod/recipe/compat/farmersdelight/

Current integration content includes:

Cooking Pot recipes for multiple flavored betel nuts.
Cutting Board recipes for processing betel nut leaf-related materials.

The integration recipes use the fabric:all_mods_loaded condition and will only load when farmersdelight is detected.

The corresponding vanilla crafting table flavor recipes use the opposite condition and will not load when farmersdelight is detected.

Therefore, in recipe viewers such as REI/EMI, when Farmer's Delight Refabricated is installed, only the cooking-tool route should be displayed. When it is not installed, the vanilla crafting table route should be displayed instead.

Addiction and Withdrawal System

Eating betel nuts increases the player's addiction value and resets the current withdrawal progress. Different flavored betel nuts have different addiction increases and effects. Some flavors provide effects such as Fire Resistance, Speed, Water Breathing, Night Vision, Haste, Regeneration, Slow Falling, and Luck.

When the player reaches the minimum addiction value set in the configuration and does not continue eating betel nuts for a period of time, the withdrawal value will gradually increase with server ticks. Withdrawal stages bring various penalties, including:

Reduced movement speed
Reduced mining speed
Hunger
Weakness
High-stage effects such as Nausea or Darkness
Maximum health penalty
High-stage food restrictions

Milk, golden apples, and enchanted golden apples can reduce or clear part of the addiction and withdrawal status. Addiction and withdrawal data is persisted through Cardinal Components API, and whether the data is retained after death can be controlled through the configuration.

Villager Trading

Farmer villagers will provide betel nut-related trades based on their profession level, including:

Raw betel nut buying and selling
Betel nut leaves
Roasted betel nuts
Some flavored betel nuts
Hecheng Tianxia Betel Nut

Whether trading is enabled, emerald prices, and item quantities can be adjusted through the configuration file.

Installation

Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 1.21.1.

Install Fabric API.

Install Cardinal Components API.

Place this mod’s jar file into the .minecraft/mods directory.

To enable Farmer's Delight Refabricated cooking-tool integration, place Farmer's Delight Refabricated into the mods directory as well.

After the first launch, the mod will generate betel_nut.json in the configuration directory. You can adjust gameplay parameters there as needed.
