Description

Ever wanted a lizard in minecraft? Well you can now with the new Bearded Dragons Mod! Minecraft lacks some arthropods and is devoid of lizards. This mod fixes that by adding 5 new arthropods and a new tamable lizard into minecraft. This mod also adds 5 new crops, with 4 that can be found generating naturally. Each description of the Blocks and Entities can be found below!

Entities

Bearded Dragons

Bearded Dragons are a Passive Mob that can be found in Deserts, Savannas, Badlands, and Dark Oak Forests. They have a total of 10 HP (5 Hearts), and can be tamed using Darkling Beetles, Five Spotted Hawk Moths, Mealworms, Hornworms, and Dubia Roaches. They'll eat just about any bug smaller than a bee they come across.

Bearded dragons can be bred using Mustard Greens, Acorn Squash, Collard Greens, or Turnips. When breeding, instead of spawning a baby version of themselves like most entities, they'll instead lay eggs. These eggs take 24000 to 48000 ticks to start hatching.

NOTE: The baby bearded dragons will not keep the tamed their parents have. This is due to how it was impossible for me to implement a method that automatically tames the baby bearded dragons, and makes their owner the owner of the bearded dragon who layed the eggs.

Bearded dragons can also be used to stun the warden if you accidentally spawned it. They'll start following the warden, and stun them for 20 seconds, with also posioning them for 10 seconds. This is due to reptile saliva being toxic to sculk, which is why wardens are stunned and posioned. However, bearded dragons can only stun a warden every 2 minutes. (or 2400 ticks)

Bearded Dragons have 6 Variants, which are also called Morphs. 5 of these variants are biome coded, while 1 of them has an extremely rare chance of spawning in any of the biomes bearded dragons can be found in.

The variants that bearded dragons can spawn as are the

  1. Standard Variant (Spawns in the Desert Biome)
  2. Silkback Variant (Spawns in the Badlands, and the Eroded Badlands biome)
  3. Leatherback Variant (Spawns in the Wooded Badlands biome)
  4. Black Variant (Spawns in Dark Oak Forests)
  5. Grey Variant (Spawns in Savannah Biomes)
  6. Zero Variant (Spawns in any of the mention biomes, but has an extremely rare 1 in 16384 chance of spawning)
  7. Paradox Variant (Spawns in the Scrublands)

Darkling Beetles (Mealworms)

Darkling beetles are a type of passive arthropod that can be found in most biomes at night. They have a total of 3 HP (1.5 Hearts) and can be bred using any type of leaves. When killed, they drop a single Darkling Beetle Item, which can be used to tame Bearded Dragons.

Like Bearded Dragons and Frogs, they instead lay eggs after breeding instead of giving birth live. The eggs will take 2400 - 4800 ticks in order to hatch, and when they do, spawn their larvae variant known as Mealworms.

Larvae

Mealworms are the larvae version of Darkling Beetles. They take around 24000 ticks in order to grow up into an adult. They can be fed Leaves in order to grow up into an adult faster. They have 2 HP (1 Heart), and like the adult, will drop themselves as an item when killed.

Five Spotted Hawk Moths (Hornworms)

Five Spotted Hawk Moths are a passive flying arthropod which can be found in most biomes at night. They have 3 HP (1.5 Hearts) and can be bred using any type of leaves. When killed, they drop a single Five Spotted Hawk Moth Item, which can be used to tame bearded dragons.

Like Bearded Dragons Frogs, and Darkling Beetles, they instead lay eggs after breeding instead of giving birth live. The eggs will take 2400 - 4800 ticks in order to hatch, and when they do, spawn their larvae variant known as Hornworms.

Larvae

Hornworms are the larvae version of Five Spotted Hawk Moths. They take around 24000 ticks in order to grow up into an adult. They can be fed Leaves in order to grow up into an adult faster. They have 2 HP (1 Heart), and like the adult, will drop themselves as an item when killed. They can also have 2 variants, Tobacco and Tomato!

Dubia Roaches

Dubia roaches are passive arthropods that can be found in Jungles at night. They have 3 HP (1.5 Hearts) and can be bred using Apples (Regular, Golden, and Enchanted), Carrots, Potatoes, Beetroot, Sweet Berries, and Glow Berries. When killed, they drop a single Dubia Roach item, which again, can be used to tame bearded dragons.

Unlike the other arthropods on this list, Dubia Roaches will give birth live like how chickens and bees in minecraft do. Babies won't drop their item on death, unlike the adults.

Crickets

Crickets are a passive mob that can be found at night in most biomes. They have a total of 3 HP (1.5 Hearts) and can be bred using any type of leaves. Crickets are a few of the only insects that have an Ambient Sound. When killed, they drop a single Cricket item, which of course, can be used to tame bearded dragons.

Like Dubia Roaches and other vanilla animals, Crickets will give birth live. Although their babies, won't drop their item on death, until they grow up.

Crickets have 4 variants that can spawn either randomly, or based on the biome. For grassy biomes, the cricket's color could either be Brown, Green, or Black. For deserts, all crickets will be golden.

Locust

Locusts are a hostile mob that can be found in most biomes at night. They have a total of 6 HP (3 Hearts) and do a total of 3 Attack Damage (1.5 Hearts Removed).

Allthough it's classified as a monster, Iron Golems will not attack locusts, making it the 2nd mob that Iron Golems wont attack, the 1st being Creepers. Although Iron Golems don't attack Locusts, Locusts still attack villagers, and they get away with it scot free.

If a locust finds a crop nearby, it will fly to it and then destroy the crop. It can destroy all crops in Minecraft, all crops that are added in this mod, and probably some crops from other mods aswell...

Although locusts are pretty strong but annoying, they do have 1 big fear. That single fear is Bearded Dragons! Locusts will immediately fly away if they get within 16 blocks of a Bearded Dragon. Not only that, Bearded Dragons will also chase locusts till they get close enough to eat them. So another good reason to keep a bearded dragon around! : )

Nether Locust

The Nether Locust is the nether variant of the normal locust. They have a total of 8 HP (4 Hearts), and do a total of 4 attack damage (2 Hearts Removed). Nether Locusts are larger than the overworld locusts, like how the Wither Skeleton is larger than the regular skeleton..

Unlike the regular locust, the when the Nether Locust attacks a mob, it will set that mob on fire for 2 seconds. The Nether Locust also doesn't catch on fire, and won't destroy overworld crops. It will only destroy nether crops such as Nether Wartz. Like the Locust, the nether locust attack Players and Villagers, but they will also attack Piglins.

Once killed, they drop themselves as an item. When eating, they restore a total of 2 Hunger Bars (1 Hunger Slot) instead of 1 Hunger Bar (Half a Hunger Slot) and have a 1/2 chance of giving you fire resistance for 10 seconds. When fed to a Bearded Dragon, they gain fire resistance for 20 seconds.

Blocks

Rooted Sand

Rooted Sand is a block that can be found naturally generating on the surface in Scrublands. Unlike regular sand, it doesn't fall if there's no block underneath supporting it, and plants such as Grass, Ferns, Flowers, Saplings, and others can be placed ontop of it. Rooted Sand is the rooted counterpart of Sand, like how Rooted Dirt is the rooted counterpart of Dirt.

Egg Blocks

Bearded Dragon Eggs

Bearded Dragon Eggs are blocks which can be found generating naturally in deserts. They take 24000 - 48000 ticks to hatch, and when they do, spawn baby bearded dragons. Unless if placed by a player, or layed by a bearded dragon, Bearded Dragon Eggs will NOT hatch by themselves.

Be careful though! If players or any non bearded dragon entities were to step or fall on the eggs, they'd break instantly. So please make sure when you're near some, you're crouching so you don't accidentally break them.

Mealworm Eggs

Mealworm eggs are blocks which can be found naturally generating in most biomes. They take 2400 - 4800 ticks to hatch, and when they do, spawn mealworms. Like bearded dragon eggs, they're NOT gonna hatch unless if placed by a player, or layed by a Darkling Beetle. Unlike bearded dragon eggs, you cannot break them by stepping on them. So fall on them all you want!

Hornworm Eggs

Hornworm eggs are blocks which can be found naturally generating in most biomes. They take 2400 - 4800 ticks to hatch, and when they do, spawn hornworms. Like bearded dragon and mealworm eggs, they're NOT gonna hatch unless if placed by a player, or layed by a Five Spotted Hawk Moth. Also like mealworm eggs, you cannot break them by stepping on them.

Crop Blocks

Mustard

Mustard is a type of crop that has a wild variant that's naturally generating in most biomes. They generate in medium sized groups in the minecraft world. Mustard Greens can be used for both breeding Bearded Dragons, and also as a food source. They restore 3 nutrients in the hunger bar, but don't restore a lot of saturation.

Acorn Squash

Acorn Squash is a type of crop that has a wild variant that's naturally generating in most biomes. They generate in medium sized groups in the minecraft world. Acorn Squash can be used for both breeding Bearded Dragons, and also as a food source. They restore 4 nutrients in the hunger bar when eaten raw, but don't restore a lot of saturation. Acorn Squash can be cooked in a Furnace, Smoker, or Campfire, and when cooked, restore 6 nutrients and restore some saturation.

Collard

Collard is a type of crop that has a wild variant that's naturally generating in most biomes. They generate in medium sized groups in the minecraft world. Collard Greens can be used for both breeding Bearded Dragons, and also as a food source. They restore 3 nutrients in the hunger bar, but don't restore a lot of saturation.

Turnip

Turnips are a of crop that unlike Mustard Greens, Acorn Squash, and Collard, will not generate naturally and can only be found in the chests of villages. Like Potatoes and Carrots, Turnips don't have seeds and are instead planted by the crop they produce. Turnips can be used for either breeding Bearded Dragons or Pigs, and also as a food source. They restore 3 nutrients in the hunger bar, but don't restore a lot of saturation.

Spaghetti Squash

Spaghetti Squash is a type of crop that has a wild variant that's naturally generating in most biomes. They generate in medium sized groups in the minecraft world. Spaghetti Squash can be used for both breeding Bearded Dragons, and also as a food source. They restore 4 nutrients in the hunger bar when eaten raw, but don't restore a lot of saturation. Spaghetti Squash can be cooked in a Furnace, Smoker, or Campfire, and when cooked, restore 6 nutrients and restore some saturation.

Advancements

This mod adds 3 new advancements to the game which are

  1. Bug Spray (Kill one of every Arthropod Variant)
  2. Once every Zeroth (Tame the extremely rare bearded dragon morph, the Zero)
  3. A Total Reptairum (Tame one of every bearded dragon morph)
  4. Magic Locust (Obtain a Nether Locust Item)

Biomes

The Scrublands

The scrublands is a new biome this mod adds. It's mostly sand with frequent patches of rooted sand. It can be mostly found nearby deserts, and other arid biomes. It has a bunch of grass and savanna trees that you can find all over the biome. This biome also has large patches of coarse dirt, and it's also home to the bearded dragon variant, the Paradox. Husks also spawn in this biome, as well as Rabbits.

NOTICE

  • If you plan on using the fabric version of this mod, you must have the fabric API located in your mods folder, which can be found here.
  • Bearded Dragons is currently only available for NeoForge 1.21.1, Forge 1.20.1, and Fabric Versions 1.21.1, and 1.20.1. I'm planning to release versions for Forge and Fabric 1.19.2. Fortunately, there would be no version for quilt at all, nor versions for minecraft versions before 1.19.2.
  • Since minecraft is doing smaller, but more frequent updates, I'm planning to release versions every one of these smaller more frequent version updates, like from 1.21.4 to 1.21.5.
