Apex Arcana — Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks Addon

One ultimate spell for every school in Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Nine world-scale castings — the sun walked to noon, a glacier dropped out of the sky, an eye that looks where you look — each built to read as the strongest magic in the game.

What's new

1.1.0 — Two spells rebuilt

Grand Sigil and The Gaze have both been remade from the ground up. The other seven are unchanged.

Grand Sigil — twelve circles, gathered and let go

It was a circle you stood in that your other spells charged, a rune per cast, and it fired a column into the sky. It is now the mod's answer to one very large thing.

Aim it at a creature. A ritual circle is inscribed on the ground under it and it is Bound — a new status effect — and cannot take a step. Then, for every rune the incantation reaches, a second circle stacks above the first: twelve of them over seven seconds, each a semitone above the last, until a tower ninety blocks tall is standing over something that cannot move.

Then the whole tower falls in on itself, gathers into a single point above its head, and goes off.

  • 770 at level five, on exactly one target. The largest single number in the mod. Nothing else standing in the circle is touched.
  • It refuses to cast at open air. No target under the crosshair, no mana spent.
  • It can be denied. Kill the caster, kill the target before the twelfth circle, or move the target out of the ring, and the whole casting collapses without firing.
  • Mana 520 (+110/level), cooldown 170 s, spell power 30 (+10/level).

The Gaze — a control spell that deals nothing

It was a single-target burn that you aimed by looking, with a field of tentacles underneath. It is now the only spell in the set that cannot kill anything.

An eye a hundred and twenty blocks across opens in the sky, and everything hostile beneath it is Transfixed — the other new status effect. While it holds:

  • it cannot move
  • it cannot cast a spell
  • it can still look around, which is all it gets

A ring of smaller eyes opens in the air around each held creature and turns to watch it. When the thing being held is you, there are more of them and they stand closer, so they are inside your first-person view — turning your head to see them is the only thing the spell leaves you.

Fourteen seconds, across the whole radius, on everything at once.

  • No damage. Not a toll while it holds, not a blow when it lets go. It is the one worth casting when you cannot win the damage race: the room stops being in the fight and is handed to whoever is standing next to you.
  • No tentacles, and no infighting — mobs are held rather than retargeted at each other.
  • It deals nothing, so it costs less to open with: mana 640 → 460 (+130 → +90 a level) and cooldown 220 → 150 s, the shortest of the eight big ones.

The caster still pays for looking up at it. That has not changed and is not going to.

One Apex Arcana spell to a book

Every spell here is an ultimate: a room-ending, two-to-four-minute-cooldown legendary. A spell book that holds three of them is a book that ends three rooms, and the whole shape of the set is that you pick the one you are bringing.

So a spell book now takes one of them. Iron's own spells are unaffected and can sit alongside as many as they like, and inscribing the same one again is still a level upgrade. The inscription table refuses before it takes the scroll, so a refused attempt costs nothing.

Configuration

  • Added gaze.holds — turn it off and the eye still opens and still costs the caster, but nothing is held. For servers that would rather not have a fourteen-second lockdown in them.
  • Added sigil.binds — the same switch for the circle.
  • Changed sigil.chargeSeconds — now the length of the whole ritual, cast to burst. Default 15 → 7.
  • Removed gaze.tentacles and sigil.holdsEnemies, which no longer govern anything. An old config file keeps the stale keys harmlessly; nothing needs deleting.

Also in this release

  • Advancements: On Nobody's Side is now earned by holding twelve things still at once, Full Circle by seeing a ritual through unbroken, and Called to Account by finishing something with the burst.
  • The pupils of the small eyes are confined to the white properly. They could previously slide out of it, most visibly mid-blink.
  • Grip of the Void no longer lands on an anvil. Both impacts — the islands arriving and each creature being driven into the floor — used block.anvil.land, which has a metallic ring on the tail that nothing in an ender spell can explain, and a room being slammed down set a dozen of them off at once. They are the end portal frame and a block breaking now.
  • English and Korean text updated throughout.
