Ancient Warfare 2 Remastered 0.1.3 — Update Overview
This project is no longer simply a modern-version port of Ancient Warfare 2.
Alongside restoring the classic 1.12.2 content, the Remastered Edition rewrites many core systems and introduces entirely new unit types, vehicle AI, and optional mod integrations.
Major New Content
Ice and Fire Integration
When Ice and Fire is installed, combat NPCs can become several new mounted units:
Dragon Riders
- Supports melee soldiers and archers.
- Automatically takes off after finding an enemy.
- Circles above targets during combat.
- Randomly chooses between diving bite attacks and sustained dragon breath.
- Archers can shoot while circling.
- Supports movement commands, formations, commanders, and dismounting.
- Dragons are stored together with their riders when NPCs are repacked, preventing mount duplication or abandoned dragons.
Hippogryph Riders
- Melee riders perform diving attacks.
- Archers circle enemies and fire from the air.
- Supports dedicated formations and Hippogryph Rider commanders.
Hippocampus Riders
- Searches for water and travels along the water surface.
- Archers circle targets and perform ranged attacks.
- Melee riders dive underwater and launch surprise attacks.
- Riders holding tridents can throw them without consuming the held weapon.
- Supports effects such as Impaling and Channeling.
Some legacy structure integrations with Ice and Fire creatures have also been restored. Ancient Warfare structure chests can additionally generate Ice and Fire loot without reducing their original rewards.
SlashBlade Integration
When SlashBlade: Resharped is installed, a soldier holding a SlashBlade becomes a new unit type: the Swordsman.
Swordsmen can:
- Perform chained ground combos.
- Select dashing techniques according to distance.
- Launch enemies and perform aerial combos.
- Use multiple charged sword techniques.
- Use SA abilities as cooldown-limited ultimate attacks.
- Release different Summoned Sword attacks when using a blade with Power.
- Block incoming projectiles when using a blade with Thorns.
- Switch techniques depending on combat distance.
- Use SlashBlades without consuming durability.
Ancient Warfare structure chests may also generate Proud Soul materials with random SlashBlade enchantments.
Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks Integration
When Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks is installed, combat NPCs can become fully functional mages.
Mages can:
- Read spells from books, scrolls, and spell-bearing weapons held in either hand.
- Use offensive, defensive, healing, control, and summoning spells.
- Select spells according to range, health, nearby allies, and enemy count.
- Read spell bonuses from armor, staffs, spellbooks, and Arcane Anvil upgrades.
- Benefit from spell power, school power, cast-time reduction, and cooldown reduction.
- Cast without consuming mana.
- Fall back to melee combat when spells are unavailable, on cooldown, unsuitable at the current distance, or when an enemy gets too close.
- Dynamically alternate between weapon attacks and spellcasting.
Legacy hostile faction spellcasters have also been restored:
- With Iron’s Spells installed, they spawn with a spellbook containing three to five randomized basic offensive spells.
- They alternate between the spells stored in their book.
- Without Iron’s Spells installed, they retain the current blaze-rod and small-fireball behavior.
Command System Overhaul
The Command Baton now supports several new functions:
- Selected NPCs are highlighted with a white outline.
- Added a new Combat Group mode.
- Each group supports up to 16 units.
- Units maintain spaced formations instead of occupying the same block.
- Melee soldiers fight on the front line.
- Archers provide ranged support from behind.
- Siege engineers provide fire support from the rear.
- Giving the baton to a compatible NPC turns that NPC into the group commander.
- Ordinary soldiers, siege engineers, and integrated mounted units support their own dedicated formations.
- Units selected by different batons no longer join the wrong commander.
- Added a Dismount mode that safely separates a rider from its mount.
Siege and Vehicle Improvements
- Restored many legacy vehicle models, textures, and animations.
- Fixed wheel rotation, angled model parts, passenger positions, and model height.
- Corrected pitch controls for several siege vehicles.
- Improved mobile cannons, fixed cannons, cannon turrets, Hwachas, and battering rams.
- NPC passengers now rotate correctly with their vehicles.
- Siege engineers can advance or retreat to maintain effective firing range.
- Mobile siege weapons can fire while moving or reversing.
- NPC-operated Hwachas can continuously fire up to 16 rockets per volley.
- Fixed catapult-type vehicles consuming ammunition without spawning projectiles.
- Restored legacy appearances for chest carts, transport boats, and ballista boats.
NPC Combat Improvements
- Faster target-acquisition response.
- Melee soldiers now use player-style attack animations.
- Shield users use player-style blocking animations.
- Only unmounted melee infantry will actively raise shields.
- Frontal attacks are deflected instead of merely dealing reduced damage.
- Cavalry does not trigger infantry shield behavior.
- Improved archer spacing, retreating, and water pursuit.
- Fixed numerous riding, rotation, formation-height, and world-reload issues.
- Repacked NPC items now preserve their unit names, equipment, and mounts.
Mailbox System
The legacy mailbox system has been restored and rebuilt:
- Mailboxes can be assigned custom names.
- Players can select a destination from existing mailboxes in the world.
- Inserted items are immediately transferred to the selected destination.
- If the destination chunk is unloaded, items are stored safely until it loads.
- Fixed repeated sending that could duplicate items.
- Supports configurable input and output faces.
- Provides input and output interfaces for Courier NPCs.
- Mailbox names and targets persist after reloading the world.
- Added an Ancient Warfare research crafting recipe.
GUI and JEI Improvements
- Recreated multiple interfaces using legacy textures and coordinates.
- Restored the Mailbox, Research Station, Engineering Station, Warehouse Control, and Warehouse Interface GUIs.
- Restored the Warehouse Crafting Station and Auto Crafting Station GUIs.
- Fixed scrollbar conditions, dynamic item slots, and button placement.
- Fixed research queues, output-slot frames, overlapping text, and other layout issues.
- JEI now displays Ancient Warfare research and engineering recipes.
- The Engineering Station, Warehouse Crafting Station, and Auto Crafting Station support transferring ordinary crafting-table recipes.
Compatibility
Ice and Fire, SlashBlade: Resharped, Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks, and JEI are optional integrations.
If one of these mods is not installed, its integration is automatically disabled and Ancient Warfare continues using its normal fallback behavior. Some integration mods may have their own required dependencies; check their respective download pages for details.
About the Remastered Edition
This project now includes many systems that were never present in the original 1.12.2 release. Large portions of the NPC, vehicle, GUI, research, storage, and cross-mod integration code have also been rewritten.
For that reason, the project has officially been renamed:
Ancient Warfare 2 Remastered
This version remains under active development. If you encounter crashes, AI problems, structure-generation errors, or integration issues, please include the relevant game log or crash report when submitting feedback.
