Ascendant: Sustenance

Ascendant: Sustenance A standalone-compatible nutrition addon featuring five persistent nutrients, food-specific values, bonuses, deficiencies, and a Food Encyclopedia. It integrates with Mastery through the shared Ascendant book.

Ascendant: Sustenance expands survival with five persistent nutrition values. Food choices matter beyond the vanilla hunger bar, and balanced nutrition provides useful effects while deficiencies create real drawbacks.

Sustenance works as a standalone addon or as an optional companion to Ascendant: Mastery. When both are active, they share one Ascendant book and integrated navigation.

- Five nutrients: Carbohydrates, Protein, Fat, Vitamins, and Minerals.
- Nutrition values persist separately for every player.
- A custom nutrition screen with threshold-accurate effect tooltips.
- A Food Encyclopedia showing the nutrient values of registered foods.
- Built-in profiles for 41 vanilla foods plus cake.
- Nutrition decreases with natural hunger loss rather than saturation loss.
- Vanilla hunger and saturation remain untouched by the addon.
- One Ascendant book is granted on first join and after every death, coordinated with Mastery when both addons are active.
- Craft another Ascendant book from one normal Minecraft book.
- Existing legacy save data is migrated automatically.
- Integrated navigation for Mastery and its Vocation expansion when installed.

Classic profile thresholds are 10 or lower for deficiencies and 90 or higher for bonuses.

- Carbohydrates: Slowness I when low; Speed I when high.
- Protein: Weakness I when low; Strength I when high.
- Fat: two-point armor penalty when low; Resistance I when high.
- Vitamins: Weakness I when low; Regeneration I when high.
- Minerals: Mining Fatigue I when low; Haste I when high.
- Low Protein and low Vitamins still apply Weakness I; duplicate effects do not stack.

The low-fat armor penalty is implemented through supported Bedrock damage events because stable Script API does not expose a writable player armor attribute. Armor-bypassing damage such as falling, drowning, starvation, magic, void, and wither damage is not changed.

- Use the Ascendant book received when joining or respawning.
- Run /asc:sustenance.
- When another Ascendant addon is installed, use its Sustenance navigation tab.

1. Import the included behavior pack and resource pack.
2. Activate both packs on the same world.
3. Back up an existing world before updating.

- Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.40
- Both the Ascendant: Sustenance behavior pack and resource pack are required.
- Ascendant: Mastery is optional; Sustenance remains fully usable on its own.

Other behavior packs can register custom foods through the included Script Event API v2. Custom foods can provide translated names, descriptions, textures, categories, and values for all five nutrients. They affect consumption immediately and appear in the paginated Food Encyclopedia. API v1 remains supported.

- /asc:sustenance_set changes a nutrient value.
- /asc:sustenance_reset resets nutrition.
- scriptevent asc:sustenance_diagnostics reports persistence and extension health.
- See EXTENSION_API.md in the behavior pack source for developer integration

This is a Bedrock rewrite, not a direct Java mod loader conversion. Unsupported Java attributes use documented Bedrock effects or carefully scoped Script API behavior. See PORT_NOTES.md and RUNTIME_SMOKE.md for exact implementation notes.
