Topdown Arena is a topdown action game experience built within Hytale Early Access. 

V1.0.1-update5 works on Update 5 also known as 2026.04.17-c2d518cc9  [Pre-release in April]

V1.0.1-update4 works on Update 4 also known as 2026.03.26-89796e57b [Stable in April]

I recommend playing on Update 4 as future pre-releases may break features!

Known bugs

- Sometimes when loading in the camera will be bugged, to fix this all you need to do is rejoin the server or type the /kill command into the chat!

Modes explained

Level progression mode: Progress through the levels, to unlock more challenging levels with new mob types. Class equipment gets upgraded every 5 levels!

Sandbox mode: Fully customise your experience by choosing which enemies you face, how many and how many kills you need for victory! You also get to pick your class and class level to spice up gameplay even more!

Accessibility options

Arachnophobia mode: When turned on, spiders can't spawn in random waves and gets replaced with another NPC type so people who have an intense fear of spiders can play safely.

Easy mode: When turned on, the player recieves a regeneration boost to make the game easier and more enjoyable for those who aren't too competitive. 

Singleplayer & multiplayer explained

This experience was originally designed for singleplayer only, but during development, I wanted to play my creation with my friends so I decided to work on multiplayer support!

Singleplayer

In singleplayer, you have access to both the level progression mode and the sandbox mode and can switch between the 2 whenever you wish! If you die, you instantly loose the round!

Multiplayer

In multiplayer, the first person to join the world is crowned "Player One" and they have control over all options and which mode everyone plays.

Other players still get to pick their own classes though. A UI pops up whenever a round is in progress or when "Player One" is selecting what to play.

You still have access to both modes in multiplayer, with a few differences, only Player One gets to customise sandbox waves, while other players can only pick classes and the class level they play as. In level progression modes, the waves scale to match the player count of the server and every player has infinite lives besides "Player One", so make sure you protect the leader! 

Multiplayer is designed for small sessions with your friends, not huge servers.  

Classes explained

All classes gets a random food item alongside a random health potion!

Knight: Equipped with a trusty sword, a deadly battleaxe and a sturdy shield with some nice health potions!

Archer: Equipped with a powerful bow, crossbow, club, poison potion bombs and some healing items!

Warrior: Equipped with a powerful mace, spear and bandages to quickly heal in the face of danger!

Shifter: Equipped with a bone knife, frost staff and morphing potions, become a dog or a mouse and show those foes who's boss!
