What is Songs Of The Machines

Songs of the Machines is a magical & mechanical mod focused on controlling ancient constructs through musical echoes.
Players use instruments to encode sequences of actions, which constructs then execute and repeat as echoes of the player’s will.

At its core, the mod is about programming through repetition: machines do not think, they remember.
Each construct follows the actions it has been taught, replaying them until changed or interrupted.

The mod is currently in an early, experimental stage and represents the foundation of a larger vision.

Features

Two types of staves:

  • Incantation Staff: executes the recorded instruction set once.
  • Curse Staff: repeats the recorded instruction set endlessly.

Three staff tiers:

  • Note: records 1 action, then executes.
  • Phrase: records 2 actions, then executes.
  • Measure: records 4 actions, then executes.

Action-based constructs:

  • Ancient Constructs perform actions sequentially.
  • Each construct has a cooldown between actions, which vary depending on the construct and action type.

Custom & interactive HUD:

  • Displays only when an Incantation or Curse staff is held.
  • Shows the number of incantations used and remaining.
  • It visually updates when an Ancient Construct is nearby and able to listen.
  • Includes a legend in the bottom-left corner explaining symbols and states.

Known Issues

  • UI compatibility: Songs of the Machines is not compatible with other mods that heavily modify or override the player UI.
