Carve channels in blocks to channel Lumen to power your devices. (Hytale Redstone/Wiring/Logic)

Description

Introduction

In times past, the ancient civilization carved channels in the ground to fuel their society with Lumen. While it brought them great heights, it also catalyzed their downfall. Such is the power of harnessing the very lifeblood of Avatars.

Long after, you discover the magical mechanisms abandoned by the ancient civilization - and in your own endless ingenuity, you spilt your own creative essence upon Orbis, using forbidden techniques long forgotten.

(Yes, this is Redstone for Hytale).

Features

Upon acquiring an Arcane Workbench, craft a Chisel for which to engrave your mark upon any surface. You can modify any mark with another click to sever a connection between two adjacent channels.

The flick of a lever will send Lumen coursing across the wires, powering all manner of contraptions.

Use logic gates to iterate and modify signals. The chisel can be used to rotate any logic gate to your liking. NOTE: To prevent infinite loops, the Stack Overflow Prevention is capped at 32 triggers per lever pull.

Roadmap

I'm probably putting this on hiatus for 3 years. I'm probably going to lose the redstone contract to Magic and Machines/Arcane Relay or Simon will offer a job rather than flat cash so I won't bother. I am too bloody busy and modding takes bloody forever. The next update will come when it comes.

This mod is far from complete. The following features are planned for the future:

To 0.1.0 - Lumen Core

  • Logic Gates - Taking inputs from one end, emitting them in the other. Logic gates, like Lumen Channels, will also appear in-set into the ground.
  • More components - Repeater, Latch.
  • More inputs - Buttons, Lumen Blocks, etc.
  • Computation - A single Lumen signal can carry multitudes of data.
  • Generalization - By inscribing a Lumen Pattern into an engraved tablet, it is possible to carry the intricacies of your large-scale Lumen pattern in your pocket.
  • Pressure Plates, Pistons, etc.
  • Automatons. Master the art of artifice - use the power of Lumen to bring your golems to life, and command it to do your bidding.
  • Item Weaving - Send items flying through the air!
  • Gears, gearboxes

NOTE: I don't like gears. They are coarse, rough, and irritating. There are also already 2 mods and 1 game which uses gears. Yet, there are none using hydraulics. I will be theorycrafting a hydraulics-based power system instead of gear-based power system with this.

  • Pipes, Cylinders, Generators, rotating blocks, glue.

Lore

   undefined

With the announcement of mechanical power and logic coming to vanilla, this mod is my pitch to Simon.

Technology as envisioned by Lumen Channelers developed in a vastly different route than our real world. Due to the presence of Creativity, the motive force of Hytale, Lumen - concentrated, distilled Creativity, rather than gears, was the preferred way of storing informational data. However, this is not to say that Lumen is a very strong energy source - rather, it is very good at being stored, and read, leading to the civilizations of the past to produce Lumen-work rather than Clockwork.

The principles of mechanical advantage and power still holds sacrosanct within Hytale, as magic itself was not enough to substitute it. However, due to the presence of Lumen, little effort was needed to transform small amounts of energy from one form to another. In other words, Lumen, is to them, as Electricity is to us - a way of converting the raw, untamed power of a turbine, into usable power in factories, computers, or androids.

The ancient civilization inscribed Lumen in runes - channels designed to transform energy from one form to another. Initially, Lumen was only useful for easily converting rotational motion into complicated motions, but, soon, it came to dominate every aspect of the Ancients' livelihoods.

Eventually, they got too greedy. They were no longer content to tap into Crystalline Creativity, the manifestation of the discarded projects of the Avatars - but the very life-blood of the Avatars themselves. Of course, we all know how that went...

Known Bugs

Break all Lumen items before updating from 0.0.6 to 0.0.7. Otherwise, your world will not load properly.

  • Certain wire configurations can create invisible hitboxes. This is an unavoidable bug, as Hytale's engine itself does not properly rotate hitboxes for side-plastered rotation variants.
