RareScanner is an addon for World of Warcraft that includes a group of tools to help you track rare NPCs, treasures and events while you play.
The notable tools that RareScanner includes are:
Alerts from nearby rare NPCs/treasures/events
This is the main feature of RareScanner. The addon displays a button in the middle of the screen with information about all the entities detected nearby. Around the button information related to the entity is displayed, such as a miniature (in the case of an NPC), the name of the entity and the loot that you could obtain after killing/collecting it.
World map information
RareScanner adds icons of every rare NPC, treasure and event that it tracks to your worldmap. When you hover your mouse over these icons you will get extra information in a tooltip.
It also shows all the spawning spots for every tracked entity and for some entities it also adds some guidance icons to help you reach to its position, force its spawn or unlock it.
Starting with Dragonflight, now RareScanner integrates with the new control that highlights reputation sources in the world map, so when you select a faction it will also highlight every rare NPC and container that grants reputation with the faction selected.
You can customize all the information displayed in the map and the tooltips from RareScanner options panel.
Rare NPCs explorer
RareScanner is designed to help you track every rare NPC/treasure/event in the game, but usually you will be more interested in finding NPCs that drop useful loot, like missing mounts or pets that you want to add to your collection.
While you can use the world map to check the loot of every NPC/treasure by hovering the mouse over their icons, it will take a lot of work to find exactly those missing items, so here is where the explorer comes in handy.
Custom NPC
RareScanner allows you to add your own NPCs (even if they aren't rare), so you can get alerts whenever you pass by them.
Filtering entities
Out of the box RareScanner will be tracking every entity in the game, however you might be interested only in a few. Using the previous tools (the world map interface, the explorer, the button with the alert or RareScanner options), you can configure the addon to track only for what you are interested in.

Important notes for Dragon Isles.
1. Expedition Scout's Packs, Tuskaar Tackleboxes and Disturbed Dirt: These treasures are everywhere. In order to avoid getting constant alerts for them you should filter them completely or at least filter their visual/audio alerts so they won't drive you crazy. You can find these options under "RareScanner -> Container filters".
2. With the launch of a new patch I need one or two weeks to collect all the loot tables, so every rare NPC added in 10.0.5 don't have much loot available yet. For this reason, you shouldn't use the explorer to filter NPCs yet, because it will filter all these new entities. If you do, use the "NPC filters panel" to reenable them.
3. Currently in Dragonflight there are a lot of non-elite rare NPCs without vignettes, so you will have to enable "enemy nameplates" to let the addon detect them.
Tips for a better performance in Dragon Isles.
1. Disable tracking for world map vignettes if you aren't hunting rare NPCs and you don't fly yet. With this option disabled you won't get alerts of NPCs in the other side of the island, only of NPCs right beside you.
You can create the next macro to easily toggle this option depending on your interest.

2. Adjust the sensitivity to a more confortable value if you notice that the addon is too annoying.

Hello!
Don't worry about it :)
Initially the addon doesn't include a database with the names of every container, only a few that the addon cannot extract by itself. If you just started using the addon you will only see a list of "Container #ID", so probably that's why you weren't finding those containers. As soon as you find them in the game the addon will start adding their names to the database.
Cheers.
Hey there!
Long time fan of the addon. I'm still very much an addon noob though, and I was wondering if there's a way to make the 'Explorer' part of RareScanner show missing loot from Dungeons and Raids. I can't seem to find the option anywhere.
In reply to gyromac:
Hello!
The addon takes into account every single rare NPC in the game, including those ones in dungeons and raids, so if they drop missing collectibles, they should show up. If you don't see them probably they don't have missing loot. However, if you are talking about normal NPCs or dungeon/raid bosses, it won't work with them ;)
Cheers!
In reply to maqjav:
I was indeed talking about bosses, so aaw :) . No worries though, I'll manage. Thanks for the quick reply!
I don't want to remove dirt/scouts packs, but want to remove Tuskaar Tackleboxes, is there a way?
NVM found it, thought /rarescanner would bring up UI. Have to go into Options/Addons/rarescanner, my apologies.
In reply to dardack:
Hello!
I imagine that you mean that you want to keep seeing Dirts/Scouts in your map without getting the alerts, right? I knew someone was going to ask this sooner or later. Right now no, because the options to decide if you want or don't want to keep seeing the containers in the map, apply to all the filters :)
The only solution here is to modify the filters panel so we can create groups of filters depending on what we want to do with each container.
I will probably end up doing it, but I don't know when.
Another solution is to filter only Tuskaar Tackleboxes and unfilter everything else. Then deselect both checkboxes in the Container filters panel so the filters remove completely the first ones and leave unfiltered everything else. After this change you will start getting alerts for Dirts and Packs. If you don't want to see the alerts then you can play with these settings:
1. RareScanner -> Sounds -> Disable audio alerts for containers/events.
2. RareScanner -> Display -> Deselect Showing the button with containers/events
It's not perfect, but it might work ;)
Cheers.
In reply to maqjav:
No I want alerts for dirt/scouts, but tuskarr not worth it to me to be alerted (or even have on map). I understand what you're saying. For now just having on map but no alert is fine. Thanks.
hello i was wondering if there is anyway to add fishing pools to the list of objects for example shimmering treasure pool , or prismatic leaper school ??
In reply to misterboo8:
Hello!
I could, but the addon won't be able to track them. Fishing pools, herbs and mines cannot be tracked whatsoever, so better to look for other solutions ;)
I think the addon GatherMate or similars might help you here.
Cheers.
I just had to reset my UI on wow and now rarescanner is only alerting mobs if I hover over them. Before it would sound and alert rares even in background with wow minimized. How can I fix this issue. Thanks
In reply to Seclusioned:
Hello!
Take a look to the tracker systems that the addon uses and how to enable them.
Anyway, these are the important ones:
- In older zones and DL some rare NPCs will be tracked only with mouse events and enemy nameplates, so take a look that you have enemy nameplates enabled in your game.
- Worldmap vignettes are used to track rare NPCs far away from you, so also take a look that this is enabled.
Cheers.
I am the only one, who is not getting any alerts for Rukhmar world boss? Cant even find it in NPC filter. Tried to create custom NPC filter, but notification shows up only on mouseover.
In reply to Evil_Pumpkin_:
Hello!
Rukhmar is not included in the database, so as you did, you need to add it as a custom NPC.
Now, custom NPCs are tracked with mouse events or enemy nameplates so you need to enable them (more info here).
Cheers.
Hello, I want to enable vignettes and sound aloert on my screen on all Expedition Scout's Packs and Disturbed Dirt. I just need to uncheck "Apply filters only the visualaudio alerts" in Containers filters ?
In reply to okaboo:
Hello!
Yes, you have to disable that option and reasure that both containers are checked in the list. I think that Expedition scout packs are 4 different containers, so check in the list that all of them are checked.
Cheers.
In reply to maqjav:
Thank you, I uncheck option and checked all containers but I don't have alert :'(
In reply to okaboo:
Any alerts at all? do you get the sound and not the button or nothing at all?
In theory you should have in RareScanner -> Container filters
- Both top check boxes disabled.
- Expedition Scout's Packs and Disturbed Dirt checked in the list.
If everything seems alright please send me your savedvariables file so I can take a look:
Cheers.
In reply to maqjav:
Thank you for your kick answer ! I dont' have containers alerts, NPC are okay. I resetted my profile and now it's seems okay !
In reply to okaboo:
Hello!
I'm glad it works now then :)
Cheers.
In reply to maqjav:
Hi. So do I understand that right, to ENABLE Disturbed Dirt, both top boxes are un-checked and in the list of containers, the Disturbed Dirt boxes are checked? I've probably tried any and all combinations of boxes checked/unchecked to get them back on alert again, and I haven't yet figured out why sometimes I get alerts on one character, but not on any others, despite all having shovels etc...
I'll gladly send my .lua. Should I open a ticket for that or send it to you some other way?
Thanks for the good maintenance, in any case!
