Find upgrades, do more damage, win.
Pawn helps you find upgrades for your gear and tell which of two items is better for your spec. Start with built-in advice from Ask Mr. Robot, or customize Pawn's stat weights to have it suggest items based on your favorite class guide or simulator. Pawn can help you decide whether it's better to use the cloak with 100 mastery or the one with 80 crit—whether you're just starting out, or you're an advanced player who plans out gear upgrades and regularly simulates and evaluates performance.
If you're new to Pawn, don't worry—Pawn will automatically set itself up to give you advice based on math done by the experts at Ask Mr. Robot (or, on Classic versions, HawsJon). Just watch for Pawn's green arrows. If you decide you want to go further, there are a lot of ways that you can customize Pawn, by tracking multiple specs at once, importing custom stat weights, and more.

Found a bug?
If something doesn't seem to be working right, just leave a comment here. In addition to a description of the problem, please make sure to include: (1) the language that you play WoW in, (2) whether it's Shadowlands, Classic Era, Burning Crusade Classic, or Wrath of the Lich King Classic, (3) the specific items that don't work as expected, and (4) your class and spec if you're using the built-in (not custom) stat weights. Screenshots are usually very helpful, and typically the most helpful thing you can provide is a full item ID (12345:67:89:0, etc.). You can find the full ID for an item by turning on Pawn's "show item IDs" feature or by putting it into Pawn's Compare tab and Alt+LeftClicking it and then copying it from the box that appears. (You can also get the first number from the item ID from any Wowhead item link, and that's usually enough, but not for items with enchantments or upgrades or random stats.)
Where are the green arrows in my bags?!
Blizzard removed the code for this feature entirely in 10.0.2. I'm as confused as you are. I'm still looking into the best way to rebuild that feature for the game's built-in bags, but for now, you can still get them back if you update to the latest version of Pawn and your favorite bag addon.
Hello, I just started playing my Fury Warrior again and noticed that Pawn does not give recommended upgrades for the off-hand two-handed weapon. It also does not list "your best"/"your second best". All this behavior was in place on my enhancement shaman using one-handers, so I think the big difference is that Pawn isn't recognizing the Titan's Grip passive or I missing something else.
In reply to Solastus75:
Hi! Yeah, you've identified the problem—Pawn doesn't understand Titan's Grip. I really need to fix that. In the meantime, though, I don't have a good solution for you. If you want to double-check upgrades manually you can use Pawn's Compare tab or use the "show scale values and upgrade %" to see the raw scores on tooltips, but neither of those are great solutions I understand.
Would it be possible to add the option to show upgrade amount in the tooltip, similar to how it shows "x% upgrade", but for the actual item weight. e.g. 1000 to 1200 would show as "+200" rather than "+20%" , this would make comparing the actual stat upgrade across multiple items more useful than a % upgrade to the single slot. Thanks!
In reply to Lassitude1k1:
Hi! Thanks for the suggestion. Right now there isn't any option for that, but I can see how it could be useful—I haven't prioritized it because it seems like something that would rarely actually be useful, but definitely it's more than zero times. Right now, your best bet is probably to use the "show scale values and upgrade %" option, which I'm guessing you already noticed. That still requires some math in your head though.
Sorry if this was asked before or I'm dumb. I want to prioritize Haste over Crit but Pawn isn't letting me. I switch it to manual in the Scales tab but I don't see anywhere that it lets me move it up the list.
In reply to ngoodey:
Hi! Not a dumb question. Go to Pawn's Scales tab and with the spec you want to use selected on the left, click "Copy" and give your custom stat weights a name. Then, when you go to the Weights tab, you can change the numbers. If you aren't sure how to adjust things, a good starting point might be to just swap Haste and Crit if they're pretty close in weight. (For example, if Haste is 1.1 and Crit is 1.3, make Haste 1.3 and Crit 1.1.) If the stat weights for Haste and Crit aren't close like that, just swapping them will probably get you some weird suggestions, so I might advise using a simulation tool to get personalized stat weights instead, but that's a step up in difficulty.

Perfect! Thanks
I am using Blizzard standard UI. I dont get any upgrade arrow on any of my better items in bag.
In reply to martinboy1974:
Hi! Blizzard removed the green arrows in bags feature and so now I need to rebuild some of that stuff myself. It's the top thing on my to-do list as of now though. Sorry!
[WotLK Classic] In the latest version of Pawn, doing any item interaction in the bags (picking it up, splitting a stack, equipping an item) causes client lag that's very annoying.
In reply to Zereges:
Hi! Sorry to hear that. Can you tell me which bag addon you're using?
In reply to TravisSpomer:
Have the same issue. I use ArkInventory personally. Interestingly though, is that when profiling CPU usage, the CPU usage of "TipTac" skyrockets while Pawn stays low. Seems an interaction between the two addons is causing the lag, but there might be something else at play as well.
Of note, when using /pawn debug on, it appears that Pawn is checking on every frame, as my chat log is absolutely flooded with output messages for the two compared items whenever I hover over one of them in my bag. Does Pawn check/run the calculations every time a tooltip frame is built/constructed?
In reply to straato_:
Hi! Yes, unfortunately the Classic versions of the game have some annoying bugs where some tooltips are getting constantly destroyed and recreated over and over again, and so Pawn needs to do the work over and over. Any addon that deals with item tooltips ends up being vastly slower on Classic as a result.
Are you seeing anything in Pawn that's gotten worse, or just things that have "always been that way" on Classic?
In reply to TravisSpomer:
I am normally using Bagnon, but I have this problem even Blizzard bag frames. I am not using TipTac (I am using TacoTip) and issue persists even with the addon disabled.
I can provide more info (cpu usage) if required and if instructed how to (which addon can report that).
In reply to Zereges:
I think the most useful thing would be just try using Pawn and no other addons for a minute, and give me a few more details if you can. What kind of client lag are we talking about? Is it every time you do one of those actions you mentioned? Does it happen when just hovering over an item? What about if you hold down shift while hovering over gear so you get a comparison tooltip? When it happens, does the game just have a quick stutter and maybe drop a frame or two, or does it continue to slow down the game for as long as it's happening? And finally, is this something that's new to a recent Pawn version or has it always been this way for you on Classic?
In reply to TravisSpomer:
Even with all addons disabled, except for a Pawn, I am still experiencing this issue.
The lag is a kind of a lag where whole game gets stuck (i.e. 0FPS) and I can only move mouse. It lasts for around 0.7seconds and then gets back to normal.
It only happens when you click an item to pick it up in the inventory or any related things (right clicking an equipment, clicking on a macro that switches equipment, using ingame equipment manager to switch sets, shift left click on a stack to split it). The item being picked doesn't have to be armor, happens with all items.
The game performs the same lag (maybe a little shorter, around 0.4s) when hovering an item and pressing shift (on the shift downpress)
The lag is only a small stutter, then continues to run normally until it is triggered again by similar inventory related action.
This started to happen in one of the latest versions of Pawn (definitely was not happening before P2 of WotLK classic, not sure if it is directly related with that or it appeared later)
And also happens with SavedVariables resetted.
I'm using AdiBags + Pawn and the green upgrade arrows were showing up until a few days ago. This happen to anyone else?
Nvm---
(This is a feature request)
I love the advisor behavior (I use AdiBags), but the upgrade indicator arrow catches my eye when I'm already wearing my best-in-slot gear for my current spec. Therefore, feature request!
For context: I use the Manual scale and then have the specs I care about enabled for this character (Balance, Guardian, and Restoration typically).
1. Ignore upgrade advisor (arrow) for non-current spec upgrades
2. Color non-current spec upgrades a different color (say yellow).
3. Crazy thought: Could scales/upgrade advisor be gearset aware?
As a druid I end up having a stupefying number of gear sets and seeing green upgrade arrows all over my bags can make quickly and efficiently checking my gear a bit tedious. I have to check the items score one at a time (which coupled with a little dyslexia makes it unfun).
Anyway, great addon, thank you very much!
In reply to sugarshoe:
Thanks for the feedback! #1 is something I would definitely like to do. #2 is also something people have requested a lot—it's a little more complicated than it seems because Pawn just lets bag addons ask "should I put a green arrow on this?" and Pawn says yes or no, and Pawn doesn't have any control beyond that. But it's still a solvable problem: just add a new thing to let addons ask "what kind (or color) of icon should I put on this?" Anyway! Short answer, yes, I feel your pain, and I'd totally like to do all of that stuff. I need to rework some of that stuff to work again with Dragonflight anyway so I'll see what I can do pretty soon here.
