Musician
Listen to and play music with nearby players. For the first time in World of Warcraft, your character can literally become a bard!
Description
Musician allows your character to play music that can be heard by the other players nearby, provided that they have installed the add-on as well. Any song file in MIDI format can be played. There are 24 instruments available including lute, harp, trumpet, violin, war horn but also drum kit and electric guitar. It's also possible to perform live music using your computer keyboard as a piano.
How to use
To listen to the music played by the other players, there is nothing to do but having the add-on installed. The music can be heard within a range of 40 meters. It's possible to block the music from specific characters using the player menu. If you have enabled the nameplates, a 🎵 icon will show up next to the name of the players who also have installed Musician. In addition, super cool musical notes will animate while playing!
To play music, click on the minimap icon to open the menu, select Import and play a song then follow the instructions. Songs can be saved in game using the optional Musician List add-on. To play live, click Open keyboard in the main menu. It's also possible to play with a MIDI keyboard using Musician MIDI.
There is a lot of other features. Check out the README and the Wiki to learn more. In addition, you can join the Discord server to get live support, share music, report bugs etc.

Lately I've been getting an error message "Your version of Musician is outdated and does not work anymore. Please download the update from ___" Then it sends me to this website. I have WowUp app and I've checked for updates and reinstalled this app several times but get the same popup. Is there something I am doing incorrectly?

Unfortunately, WoWUp may not be updating the add-ons that are hosted on CurseForge anymore. Try updating using the CurseForge client or downloading the update manually from the website.
In reply to faelunir:
Hey, I'm a WowUp moderator. Can you come to our discord so we can troubleshoot the issue? We can try to figure out what is going on and why its giving you that message in game.
Hi I downloaded this addon (it is awesome by the way!) and allowed it to change my nameplates.
Now when I click on a player it changes their nameplate to the class colour and I'm not sure how to get it back to default nameplates.
EDIT: If anyone wants to know how to fix themselves, make sure you download AdvancedInterfaceOptions and change "nameplateShowFriends" to 0 :)

Or you can just press Shift+V :D
Howdy, thank you for making such a wonderful recreational addon, it's very fun to pop into WoW every now and then and hear some folks playing their favorite songs.
I have an issue to report pertaining to how the addon is affecting my volume levels. I'm not sure what exactly about Musician is triggering this to happen, but very often upon login, my Sound slider in the System > Sound > Volume settings will be cranked up to 100% even though I have not touched it. Even when I put it back down to my preferred level, it will frequently reset multiple times in one login session. I was only able to discover Musician was the source of this bug by downloading the Classic version and encountering it there for the first time when I had no sound problems prior. When I disable Musician, the issue ceases entirely.
If there is anything that can be done to remedy this it would be greatly appreciated. If it helps narrow the cause down, when I open my Interface options, the sound will crank up to 100% automatically; but it only stays at 100% if I hit the "Okay" button. This isn't the only time the sound will change without warning, but it's the only one I've been able to discover and describe.
As an additional note, it would be a HUGE help for sound made by the Musician addon to have a volume slider of its own in the addon's settings. As much as I enjoy hearing people play their songs, I usually have to turn my computer's volume way down for my ears to tolerate the intensity.
Thank you again for all your hard work, it is dearly loved in the roleplaying community <3

Hi ! That's a technical limitation of the WoW UI. Read more here: https://github.com/LenweSaralonde/Musician/wiki/What-the-FAQ#why-are-my-sound-and-dialog-volume-settings-constantly-being-adjusted-to-the-maximum
Hi there, i am in badly need in some one thing
Pls, make "playing as band" option is toggleable off. Im playing in roleplay guild and we are often making raids in order to complete events. But in party i cant play any kind of music solo, addon is just breaking up and i cant play or either pause playing music (buttons just goes gray).
In any case - this is a great addon, thanks for working on it!

Hi ! Could you join us on Discord so we can discuss about the issue ?
Maybe instead of constantly berating me that there's some update (which there isn't, I update my admins daily) you could . . . idk . . . post the update if there TRULY is an update? It's been going off for several days now, and my current version is the same version posted on Curseforge.
In reply to oelenor:
Do you update your addons using an addon manager or do you download the updates from the website ?
Make sure the version that is showing up on your addon manager matches the version on the website, some addon managers (including the Curseforge client) sometimes have issues, especially with addons that support multiple versions of WoW.
Try downloading the update from the website.
In reply to oelenor:
There is a bug with the CurseForge Client that doesn't support files for multiple versions of WoW, even if everything is fine on the website. I had a chat with the dev team, they should fix this soon. In the meantime, I pushed a 3 new version of Musician for each WoW version, it should resolve the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.
In reply to LenweSaralonde:
Thanks! It started to yell at me every time again this week after it stopped for a few weeks lol
Please get rid of the announcement emote. It's intrusive and unnecessary, like ads in a mobile game. There are better ways to promote the use of your addon.
In reply to tinytroll:
You can disable it in the options.
In reply to LenweSaralonde:
I'm aware, but nobody does this. I have been asking people to turn it off but they either ignore me or are nasty about it.
In reply to tinytroll:
In this case, the best I can advise you is to create a WeakAura script to filter out the chat messages sent over the EMOTE channel containing the addon promo message https://github.com/LenweSaralonde/Musician/blob/master/locale/Musician.en.lua#L296
In reply to LenweSaralonde:
Using another add-on to fix YOUR issue? That's not exactly a good thing.
In reply to oelenor:
If you install Musician, the emotes will go away, no need of another add-on.
This addon appears to suffer from the same limitations of Curse, where addons with TOCs supporting multiple game versions don't show up for all the versions.
Case in point, WoWUP doesn't "see" the TBC-Classic version, but does see the Vanilla-Classic version.
My guess is the 'fix' is to upload separate repositories of each game era, with the TOC being set to only that era.
((This appears to be an issue with Curse and addon managers have no real work around.))
