Gnomes from all the Sims games. No stone left unturned! ts2 ts3 console mobile to 4

Description

This is a project I kind of always wanted to do, but was also really hesitant about.  For, I think, obvious reasons.  The sheer amount!  But that also makes it worth doing.

So what is this?  Why it's just every single unique gnome in the series, that's all.  For some reason gnomes have always been a part of the Sims.  Especially the Sims 3 which went completely mad with the idea.  And, after seeing the same gnomes pop up time and again during Harvestfest I thought "I could add a lot more to this".  So I did.

This wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the CAS-table gnome mod which contains every gnome in every pose in the Sims 3.  I asked if I could use it as a resource and AussomeDays kindly allowed me to.

Even with this Sims Package Editor didn't always export things properly, often the UV maps were broken.  So here's a protip for then that happens: make a package with a pose that works use Object Cloner.  Then export the pose as a file rather than a s3m2b.  Then import it into the cloned object you've just made.  Replace the MLOD and MODL with the geometry you want exported properly by deleting the existing geometry, copying the vales from it and pasting it into the desired geometry (it helps to have the package open in two windows).  Save.  After that import the pack you edited into TSR Workshop and you can export the geometry as an obj file!  This technique was invaluable in getting geometry that, for some reason, just have the UVs scrambled.

MadRayne was very helpful in giving me information about the console games.  There was quite a bit there than I just didn't know about and was never documented properly.  I find that the wiki just doesn't do a great job in covering the non-computer game side of the Sims and there was no clear list of gnomes found on console games.  Bustin' Out had a whole lot of them!

The object that gave me the most trouble in this set was the Sims 2 Console's Cheat "Gnome".  I hesitated in including it, but it's called a gnome (even though it isn't) and it does look cool.  So I made it a lamp.  Ripping from the Sims 2 console can be very annoying since textures don't rip properly and this time was no exception.  To make matters worse the textures weren't easy to identify even after I extracted them properly using a ninjaripper and PCX2 1.2.1 combination.  Each part of the lamp has a different, tiny, texture applied to it and it wasn't properly identified after extraction.  But a day of careful examination netted me the correct ones.  After that I had to play with the model a lot to get the shadows right.  It was a challenge to be sure, but in the end I got it.  By the way, I used ninjaripper and Dolphin 3.5 to get non distorted models.  I know it seems overlarge, but that's the correct height as far as I can tell as compared to Sims in the game.

In regards to the Sims Mobile I only ripped the gnomes not found in 4 already.  There's no point in ripping low rez versions of things we already have, after all.  Interestingly the unique ones are edits of ones already found in 4.  They edited the lower LOD for mobile.  I wish I could have gotten the special effects for Roy G. Biv, but it's not to be. The Serious Business had seriously terrible textures.  Even worse than the other Mobile gnomes!  I had top upsize them just like the Bustin' Out gnomes.

All these gnomes are set up to work with Harvestfest.  Even the large zombie statue.  And I've tried my best to pair each one with the kind of appeasement that makes sense from the limited options available (for instance, the bunny gnomes share the same tag as the bunny from 4).  There's only four different appeasement groups, despite what any lists say.

The Sims3 gnome tombstone can be found in my Sims3 to Sims4 Tombstone and Urn Conversion package.
