Z-Liminex is a hauntingly immersive in development modpack that plunges you into a world of liminal spaces, decaying cities, and the eerie thrill of urban exploration. Corridors stretch endlessly and abandoned structures crumble over time, as the remnants of a once great civilization are slowly reclaimed by nature before your very eyes.

With a bespoke world decay system, procedurally generated cities, and a meticulously crafted soundtrack—including the full "Music for Liminal Spaces" album By Ghost In The Loop. Z-Liminex transforms Minecraft into a surreal dreamscape where survival is just as much about discovery as it is endurance.

This world beckons you to explore it, ere the dead get hungry...

Notable Features

This modpack is packed with detail! It is not your grandmas minecraft.

Exploration maps!

Experience unique GMOD style adventure maps focused on exploring surreal, liminal constructs!

  • mc_liminexblocks_test This quick, immersive map takes about 20-30 minutes, drawing you into a labyrinth of surreal liminal spaces! It also has a bunch of secrets!
    • If people enjoy this, I’ll add even more!

Classes!

Begin your journey by choosing one of three classes!

  • Survivor: A 'normal' person who has honed their quickness in the urban sprawl.
  • Legacy Survivor: An older survivor with the ability to pass on 9 items to their next life (Their LEGACY).
  • Homesteader: A rugged survivor with a health bonus who starts scraped up, but with all the materials to build a small zombie-resistant base and a shotgun, but not much else.
  • Urban Explorer: A curious wanderer armed with a camera and a pink shirt who enjoys exploring old abandoned structures and liminal spaces.
  • The Lost: You start with nothing but a handful of dirt,

There are also "Respawn Kits" which you can choose after your first death. Which change what you respawn with.

  • Scavenger Pack: Respawn with a half loaded pistol, 45 bullets, 10 torches, and 5 pieces of beef jerky.
  • Librarian Gear: Respawn with a safety glock, 40 bullets, 1 lit golden candle holder, 10 lit candles and 5 beef jerky.
  • Reclaimer Kit: Respawn with a half-loaded shotgun, some materials, and basics like torches and food.
  • Lost: You respawn with nothing but a handful of dirt.

Immersive Ambient Soundscapes and a Bespoke Soundtrack!

  • Featuring the full album "Music for Liminal Spaces" by Ghost In The Loop (With their blessing!), which serves as an ideal companion to your surreal, dreamlike journey through the procedurally generated liminal city scape.

Immerse yourself in a rich, atmospheric soundscape that perfectly captures the eerie and captivating essence of urban exploration and liminal spaces.

All remaining Minecraft tracks that haven’t been replaced have been slowed and given added reverb, evoking the nostalgic, otherworldly feel of those classic liminal Minecraft compilation videos.

Urbex Adventures!

  • Mark Your Path: Use chalk to mark buildings you've explored, ensuring you never lose your way.
  • Capture the Moment: A comprehensive camera system, allowing you to photograph the old, broken, abandoned buildings. Enhance your photos with filters and proudly display them in your base.
  • Expanded Gear: Equip yourself with customizable backpacks and toolbelts, giving you the capacity to carry all your essentials.

Survive and Thrive

  • Exploration!: Explore desolate cities and abandoned structures and uncover a vast builder conspiracy!
  • Fight Other Survivors: Engage in battles with other survivors, each with unique generated names and items filled with easter eggs!
  • Guns

A Crumbling World

Introducing Decay.js: an awesome 'world decay system' that transforms Minecraft into a living, breathing thing. This one-of-a-kind script (Created by me.) adds an eerie, dynamic layer to your world, simulating the slow creep of real-life decay. Watch as stone structures crack, crumble into cobblestone, and finally turn into gravel. Cobwebs begin to weave through forgotten corners, rot slowly invades, and even plants decay into dirt eventually, taking over once vibrant buildings. Every structure feels alive, constantly changing and decaying right before your eyes, bringing a haunting realism that makes Minecraft feel totally fresh.

  • Gradual Deterioration: Blocks around slowly break down over time. Cobblestone turns mossy, stone bricks crack, and structures will begin to show signs of age and decay.
  • Natural Encroachment: Cobwebs and roots will work their way into buildings, creating a haunting, abandoned look.
  • Ultimate Decay: Eventually, everything will crumble into gravel and dirt, or disappear entirely, leaving empty, ghostly spaces where solid structures once stood.
  • Urbex: This makes structures (after awhile) feel like real abandoned places, which is really cool and great for urbex. And putting off exploring a structrue wil result in it being more decayed when you get around to exploring it! Offices turning into mazes of vines and plantlife, literal urban jungles. This is what urbex is about!
  • New Growth: While decay breaks things down, it also brings new life. A structure with just a mound of dirt can eventually become host to a thriving ecosystem, all on its own—no intervention needed. Decay isn't just the end; it's the beginning of something new.

This relentless decay makes your world feel alive and eerie, adding a new layer of challenge and atmosphere.

The world is constantly evolving, decaying, growing and pushing your survival and exploration skills to the limit.

Resourceful Zombies:

  • Zombies Have Everything: Zombies and most other default mobs now drop resources you typically need to venture underground for, including various ingots, diamonds, netherite, bullets, bandages, and more.
  • Beware of the fungal contagion!: If you die while infected, you'll transform into a zombie. To retrieve your belongings, you must defeat the zombie version of your former self. Eating golden apples (And golden moss, and goilden apple tea) can cure the infection.
  • Find your corpse: If you die without being infected, you can locate your body and recover your items, but the corpse will decay over time, eventually becoming a skeleton.
  • Griefing zombies!: The zombies are fully capable of burning down your base, digging, and even placing TNT. You'll have to strategize to protect yourself!
  • Clever Creepers: Creepers will blast holes in buildings from several blocks away to help their zombie friends reach you.

Dynamic World:

  • Everything decays: The already explained Decay.js slowly decays your world!
  • Immersive Weathering: The world is deteriorating, with iron rusting and blocks gradually eroding away. Fires transform wood into charcoal, creating a constantly changing environment. Very infra-esque!
  • Seasons!: Seasons change, bringing their own unique challenges.
  • HarvestCraft: This features Pam'sHarvestCraft along with all its expansions adding detailed food systems, advanced harvesting mechanics, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the modpack includes numerous custom recipes that make use of Pam's HarvestCraft's tools!
  • Aquaculture 2: This mod is also included, making fishing more engaging for when you're not busy running from zombies and just want to vibe. (This will likely be expanded by me later with new rare fish you need to do special things to get.)
  • Beware: More spooky things lurk in the dark!

Unique Crafting:

  • Scavanging Like a Pro: Unique crafting recipes exclusive to this modpack let you break down city objects like Furnaces, Cauldrons, Anvils, Crafting Tables, and Cobwebs into more usable components and to make more things from scavanged materials.
  • Breaking Blocks Isnt The Same:Breaking blocks directly yields some components and doesn't always drop the base item, but using the new crafting recipes is often more efficient. Bonus rewards include gold bars and gunpowder from Brewing Stands, and consistent three-string drops from Cobwebs.
  • Essential Crafting: Craft essential survival items like bullets, guns, bandages, and armor, or build bases complete with beds and other necessities simply by scavenging the city.
  • Moss: An uncomfortable amount of moss related features.
  • Crime: Cooking the books.

Future Plans Shortlist

  • More random structures (InDev:  Might want to add some more complex genertaed structures like giant abandoned malls!).
  • More Custom Cities: Future updates will add many more custom buildings then already exist. (InDev)
  • Loads of references to The lIbrarian (In progress)
  • City Generation Enhancements: I'll be focusing on urban exploration (urbex) to make city generation more immersive. Unlike many modpacks that just use the default Lost Cities, I am completely customizing them, similar to Deceased Craft but with a mor eliminal urbexy twist. (InDev)

While there's still a lot of work to be done, the current version is already a lot of fun. Stay tuned by joining my discord and sharing your screenshots, I might just use them on the mod page!
