This mod adds three types of worlds that players can access by crafting the corresponding portals: Mining Portal, Void Portal and Garden Portal.
- Each crafted portal will - when first activated by right-clicking - create a new dimension and transport the player there.
- At the location where the player arrives in the new dimension, a Return Portal is placed. Use this to get back.
- Portal blocks can be picked up and moved, even to other dimensions.
- Return Portals can only be moved within the dimension they were generated.
- Server OPs can right-click a new (not yet activated) portal while sneaking to forcibly link to an existing dimension, using a GUI. Linking from within a Utility Worlds dimension to the overworld (via GUI) should be used with caution. The created overworld portal can be in a bad location (coordinates can be specified in UW for 1.14.4+)
Note: Utility Worlds for 1.14.4+ currently have clouds in the Void World. This can't be helped at the moment, but may be resolved later.
Common for all worlds
- No weather.
- Always noon (sun at zenith).
Mining World characteristics
- Completely flat.
- No caves, water or lava. Note that other mods may override this behavior, there is no attempt to prevent this.
- Flat bedrock.
- Ore generation and mob spawning as in Extreme Hills / Mountains.
Void World characteristics
- Black sky. star brightness is configurable, default is no stars (only in UW for MC 1.12.2).
- Considered a plains biome.
- No structures.
- 9 x 9 stone platform where the Return Portal is created.
- If a player dies in the Void World, the respawn is at the same location as when initially entering the dimension. Keep a block there to avoid death loops.
Garden World characteristics
- Completely flat.
- Only consists of 4 layers of dirt on bedrock.
- No ore generation.
- No mob spawning.
Any update on the "official" 1.10.2 version?
Awesome work! Thanks for the update!
Hi,
I was wondering if it would be possible to add a config option to disable mob spawning in the mining dimensions. The problem I am having is when players (myself included) leave chunk loaders in these dimensions, mobs are able to spawn when no one is online and the server TPS drops requiring a server restart to "reset" them. I used the Warmroast profiler to see what was going on and it appears that the Zombie AI is going bonkers looking for a target and using a lot of server resources to do so. Oddly this issue does not appear to be present in the overworld as a "/forge tps" will reveal the overworld only using 7ms while a mining world with much less going on using up to 30ms of tick time per dimension that is chunk loaded. Preventing natural mob spawns in these dimensions seems like the most logical route to bring this number down.
This is using the mod on a 1.10.2 server, which itself seems to be more resource hungry than previous versions of minecraft (but that's another rant entirely).
Awesome, thank you! Loving the mod!
Love the mod, it's super great and simple! Just wanted to let you know that there appears to be a bug where dying in one of the utility worlds (mostly tested with the void world) causes your spawn point in the overworld to reset. There's no error or anything but I've done it a bunch of times and it consistently acts this way. Unfortunately, it makes the void worlds impractical for players to use as base building dimensions :(
EDIT: This is on 1.7.10, on with the 1.0.9 build of the mod!
Does this mod work for the latest forge version for 1.10?
Edit: Nevermind, I found out myself, and yes, it does work. xD
Hi,
Love the mod. I have a question. The Garden Worlds have large holes in the ground that go into the void. Is that by design?
A player thought it was oil and jumped in, lesson learned.
Regards
I do have AA installed. Thanks for the heads up.
How can we remake Return Portals?
Using 1.0.7, a player blew up the exit portal in our mining world..
Not really wanting a portal in the overworld at xz8/y64, I suggest adding a feature where it just regenerates the portal block in existing worlds..
I'll do it myself if you've got github and accept PRs.
I only suggest it because it's a proper 'fix' for this issue..
On a large multiplayer server, it's not convenient even as the server admin to deal with this at the overworld spawn location every time.
I'll probably still pm you with the code for it when I do it myself, since you don't have src up publicly.
Nice mod :)
Would it be possible to add a config option so there can only be 1 of each dimension?
Right now (UtilityWorlds-1.9.4_1.0.8) every time you place a new portal a new dimension is created. This can be problematic on servers lag-wise and when people from different bases want to go to the same dimension.
Thanks for your suggestion. It's not something that is planned right now, but maybe down the line.
As a workaround, Portal crafting can be disabled in the config and the server admin can then spawn in a single portal block and grant access to it to players using Mystcraft linking books and / or RF Tools teleporters. Not ideal, I know, but it's possible.
However, the dimensions themselves basically only occupy disk space, as well as some initial lag when players first enter them and terrain around the return portal is generated. It will most likely generate less lag if every player can make their own dimension and immediately place down a quarry, instead of flying around looking for a spot and generating more terrain.
Thanks for your reply :)
Having a dozen or so dimensions where people mine and set up factories creates quite a bit of overhead. This is the reason why we stopped using Mystcraft. Also it makes quite a mess out of Dynmap.
I really hope you'll add this feature soon.
We have found that having multiple Mining/Void/Garden worlds is very confusing on a server. Also when a portal block gets destroyed it's quite a hassle for OPs to get things sorted again.
For this reason we've gone back to Aroma1997's mining dimension mod. Which is a step back in some ways but at least everybody knows where all their stuff is.
Having the option to only generate 1 of each kind of dimension would really be much appreciated.
