Realistic Torches is a lightweight mod that makes early gameplay more difficult by causing torches to burn out after a configurable amount of time. This encourages players to move toward more permanent light sources early on.
Features
- Torches are now unlit after being crafted, and must be lit with a matchbox
- Torches will burn out after a configurable amount of time (60 minutes real time by default), encouraging players to seek out more permanent light sources
- Torches are extinguished when rained on
- Torches generated in vanilla structures will be replaced by unlit torches
- Permanently lit torches can be crafted using a glowstone crystal
- Naturally light-emitting blocks and items will emit light when held (pre-1.14.4)

In reply to Snowyjoe6:
it is enough
you just need it for a single iron
In reply to j4wsth3sh4rk:
i feel like it would make more sense to start with a matchbox, since all you need to do is find a tree and sugar cane (which introduces biomes with trees to the player as well as water biomes)
what this mod needs to do is add support for all wood types, especially modded, since you need oak for the matchbox for whatever reason
In reply to j4wsth3sh4rk:
it's not painful to find sugar cane, it adds that item to the list of stuff you need when in a new world in addition to wood
what we need, is a way to craft a matchbox with ANY wood, but i fixed that already with crafttweaker
I absolutely love this mod.
Are there any plans to update to 1.18?
Maybe 1.17.1 so I can finish up my modpack and post it
2 problems:
I know how to fix the second one just by using the mod Polymorph, but what about the first one? idk what to do there
In reply to DeMooniC_:
it was working fine for me until my world glitched and half my house disappeared, ever since then i can only craft the paste, crystal and matchboxes
Polymorph? i've never heard of this mod, you may have just provided me a temporary fix. thanks
In reply to Felix_FTW_:
You are welcome! Yeah I just knew that mod from seeing it in some random YT videos long ago and then remembered its existence when I had this problem with the mod lol. It's reaaally useful for big mod packs too
I love this idea. Maximizes spookiness and "get in, get out" tension of caving.
Planning on 1.17?
Thanks for your creativity
Can you please change the recipe for the unlit torch to be different from vanilla torches?
Plenty of mods interfere with vanilla recipes, thus making the vanilla torch recipe dominant again, rendering users unable to craft unlit torches (except when you craft regular ones and then destroy them to get unlit torches, which breaks immersion).
If the crafting pattern for unlit torches was a unique one, this particular incompatibility would be dealt with permanently.

Use Polymorph here's the link for Forge https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/polymorph and here the link for fabric https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/polymorph-fabric
In reply to gh0un:
Here is a solution so that it does not conflict with vanilla:
In reply to AldairNT74:
i tried this and it still didn't work
In reply to Felix_FTW_:
here another solution.

In reply to AldairNT74:
that's awesome that we now have a mod to fix realistic torches, but im on 1.15 and need crafttweaker to disable the recipe
In reply to Felix_FTW_:
I'll see if I can do it for 1.15
In reply to AldairNT74:
ah, even better
a bunch of the items from realistic torches can't be crafted; i'm working on craft tweaker script right now to see if i can fix it but if you can fix those too with a standalone mod that would be cool
In reply to Felix_FTW_:
I already made version 1.15.2
In reply to gh0un:
True
is there a way to make it so you can light torches from furnaces when it's lit? ex. right clicking a lit furnace (or any fire source) with an unlit torch gives you a lit torch?
