Why?
A lot has changed in the way mods are made since then, so it would be a lot of work just to make it compatible with an outdated version of Minecraft. I would love to support as many versions as possible, but there's only so much I can reasonably do. ._.
Instead, I will be keeping the mod up-to-date with the latest versions, such as 1.12 when that comes out. :)
Unluckily, I don't play newest versions often. I would like to help you dowgrade it but I don't know how to code. Maybe if some fan of this mod that knows how to make mods for 1.7.10 you could do it.

Just a small suggestion, maybe do a recipe for the Gift Box Chest that doesn't interfere with regular chests. Maybe something like this: Recipe Idea
The latest version actually adds its own presents, which are shaped like chests, but are available in more colors. It also prevents standard and trapped chests from ever using the present texture. Here's a picture using purple and white presents: http://imgur.com/nonGXWf
