1.16.5
- rewritten to work with MC 1.16.5
- the mod now uses fake air and water blocks to achieve light (rapidly placing and removing them as light sources move)
- this has several limitations, only full water blocks can emit dynamic lights (not waterfalls or partial block rivers)
- it will also not work if the light source is inside some non-air block like foliage or spiderwebs
- the mod is now a "standard" mod that requires both a client and a server to have it when playing online
- currently only the player self light and dropped items modules are implemented
- there is also no on-off button
This modification makes 'shining' items (default: Torch, Glowstone, Glowdust, Lit Pumpkin, Redstone, Lava Bucket, powered Minecart) illuminate everything around them if
1) the player has them equipped (in hand/armor)
2) they are dropped on the ground
You may add any Item ID you wish as shiny item, via the settings file. Also supports armor items!
There is no limit to the number of lights you can create, note however they are fairly FPS-costly. You can disable modules to obtain better FPS!

Does this mod affect any technical redstone/minecraft mechanics? I'm not exactly sure what the description means when its talking about "rapidly placing and removing them as light sources move" and what that means for some of the games finer mechanics outside of aesthetic lighting
Hi! Is this supposed to work on server? When I use it on singleplayer it works well, but on server it doesnt work.
In reply to SergioInGame2624:
The server must run it in that case, not you. Client-only functionality was a thing in past versions, but it no longer works. Now it technically is a server-only mod.
So since this is now a "standard" mod the requires it both on client and server. Does anyone know of any mods that are strictly client side that will allow me to hold a torch and have it emit light for me?
In reply to KingMundane:
(Forge) The obvious answer would be Optifine; I'm not sure if mods like Oculus/Rubidium implement them as well
In reply to Kooljo728_:
there is dynamic lighting with Oculus/Rubidium
uhm hello please tell me this is for fabric or forge, because the latest update of 1.18.2 doesnt work on me
In reply to lambofchurch:
Is for Forge and not works for me too in 1.18.2
But Optifine already has this?
In reply to EvilMelonTV:
Optifine has compatibility issues with many mods, so it’s not advisable to use it in a large modpack.
In reply to SpinHarmony:
What issues? I never had any. Examples?
In reply to wojtulace123:
There are rendering issues with Tinker’s Construct, some users experience crashing with Twilight Forest, and it is a known incompatibility for New Tardis Mod. It also adds significantly to the load time, though that’s not a compatibility issue, just an issue with Optifine itself.
Mods such as Rubidium and Oculus can replace some of Optifine’s functionality without these issues, and with better performance.
Pathetic mod. randomly doesnt light up on some y levels and chunks. Some chunks stay lit up even when you leave them. Completely useless.
In reply to piggythewiggy:
u gud?

Always love this mod! Sadly, its 1.18.x version files are not specified correctly on CurseForge. The installer only recognizes this mod for MC 1.18.0 for Forge 38.0.17 (the max for MC 1.18.0). Please review and modify file settings, if possible, so we can use the CurseForge app's installer. Thanks!
In reply to Alcyon:
Is working now in CurseForge app installer. Thanks!!!
Does it work for fabric
Hey. Unfortunately, there is a recurrent (and pretty annoying lol) lighting bug. Indeed, the torch (or any other lighting sources in hand) is turned off for no concrete reason (the light works while I am on a block and when I fly some blocks above the light is turned off, same situation in gamemode survival, no matter the biome/weather). Also, another detail, the light is turned off when we walk through a minecraft:tall_grass.
- Screenshot = https://ibb.co/f9PXzYV
- Forge = 1.18.1-forge-39.0.64 (same problem with 1.18.1-forge-39.0.63 or 1.18.1-forge-39.0.14)
- Other mod = No other mod.
Thank you for your time.
